Aaron Sorkin Planning Molly’s Game As His Directorial Debut

January 9, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

aaron-sorkin

Although he’s a bit of a love him or loath him figure to some, Aaron Sorkin has made an incredible name for himself as a screenwriter (Jobs, The Social Network) and on TV (The West Wing, The Newsroom), but it’s only now that he’s planning to turn director. Variety reports that Sorkin is teeing-up Molly’s Game as his directorial debut.

He’s actually been involved in a film version of Molly Bloom’s memoir for over a year, as he signed up to write the screenplay in November 2014. Now though he’s hoping to direct as well, with Danny Boyle having vacated the director’s chair.

Molly’s Game is set in the world of high-stakes poker, with the story following Bloom who ‘was a top-tier skier who headed to Los Angeles after not qualifying for the Olympics and became an an organizer of underground poker games for Hollywood players including Ben Affleck, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire before being arrested by the FBI.’

Her downfall was getting involved (or according to her pressured) by the wrong people, including the Mafia who wanted a slice of the action after she moved from LA to New York, as well as turning what was a lucrative but legal operation into something that was classed as illegal gambling, after she started taking a cut of the pot rather than just relying on tips. It’s not known when the film about her will be released.

The Animals Are Here In Great New The Jungle Book Triptych Posters

January 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jungle-book-triptych-completeIt’s just four months until Disney hopes that turning another one of its classic movies live-action will pay off at the box office. This time it’s The Jungle Book that’s being revamped, with Jon Favreau directing and the likes of Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong’o, Scarlett Johansson, Giancarlo Esposito and Christopher Walken providing the voices of the animals.

Disney has now released a great triptych poster, which you can see above, along with its constituent parts below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johansson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.

‘The all-star cast also includes Lupita Nyong’o as the voice of the fiercely protective mother wolf Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as the voice of wolf pack’s alpha male Akela. “The Jungle Book” seamlessly blends live-action with photorealistic CGI animals and environments, using up-to-the-minute technology and storytelling techniques to immerse audiences in an enchanting and lush world. The wild adventure swings into cinemas in 3D on April 15, 2016.’

The Conjuring 2 Trailer – Things get creepy again for Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson in London

January 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

conjuring-2-pic1-slideAfter the massive success of The Conjuring, it’s no surprise that we’re getting a sequel. However it’s taken a while for it to be ready – so long that we’ve had time for the spin-off Annabelle in the meantime – but now we have a trailer for The Conjuring 2, which moves the action to Britain.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Reprising their roles, Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga (“Up In the Air,” TV’s “Bates Motel”) and Patrick Wilson (the “Insidious” films), star as Lorraine and Ed Warren, who, in one of their most terrifying paranormal investigations, travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.

‘The film follows the phenomenal worldwide reception of Wan’s “The Conjuring,” which marked the largest opening ever for an original horror movie.  The film went on to make more than $319 million worldwide and still remains the second highest grossing original horror movie of all time, second only to “The Exorcist.”’

And in case you’re haunting, it is about the same case as the recent British TV show, The Enfield Haunting. The Conjuring 2 will be in cinemas in June.

New High-Rise Teaser Trailer – Tom Hiddleston is living in a retro-futuristic dystopia

January 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

high-rise-teaser-slideA few weeks ago a teaser trailer for the much anticipated High-Rise dropped, but it didn’t show us too much of the movie, instead coming across as a faux promotional video for the retro-futuristic building referred to in the title. Now a more traditional teaser has arrived, suggesting this will be a bizarre but incredibly eye-catching movie.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘High-Rise centers on a new residential tower built on the eve of Thatcher’s England, at the site of what will soon become the world’s financial hub. Designed as a luxurious solution to the problems of the city, it is a world apart.

‘Enter Robert Laing (Hiddleston), a young doctor seduced by the high-rise and its creator, the visionary architect Anthony Royal (Irons). Laing discovers a world of complex loyalties, and also strikes up a relationship with Royal’s devoted aide Charlotte (Miller).

‘But rot has set in beneath the flawless surface. Sensing discord amongst the tenants, Laing meets Wilder, a charismatic provocateur bent on inciting the situation. Wilder initiates Laing into the hidden life of the high-rise and Laing is shocked at what he sees.

‘As the residents break into tribal factions, Laing finds himself in the middle of mounting violence. Violence that he also finds emerging in himself’.

The movie hits UK cinemas in March. Take a look at the teaser and a new poster below.

Guillermo del Toro Circling James Cameron Produced Fantastic Voyage Remake

January 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

guillermo-del-toro

For years James Cameron has been working on producing a remake of Fantastic Voyage, but it’s been trapped in development with the likes of Paul Greengrass, Shawn Levy and Louis Leterrier coming and going from the director’s chair (many others, including Darren Aronofsky, Timur Bekmambetov and Jonathan Mostow has flirted with it). Now it may finally be moving forward, with THR reporting that Guillermo Del Toro (Pacific Rim, Crimson Peak) is interested in directing.

David Goyer – who previously worked with Del Toro on Blade II – wrote the script, and it would also reunite the director with James Cameron after their aborted attempt to make a movie version of At The Mountains Of Madness.

The original 1966 Fantastic Voyage, followed a team of scientists who are miniaturised and injected into the body of a colleague, in order to try and save his life. The new version is envisioned as an event-sized tentpole for Fox, although it’s previously been suggested that the studio has had a few concerns about the budget (which is what caused At The Mountains Of Madness to come undone), but hopefully those problems have been ironed out.

Emma Stone May Be A Young Play Cruella de Vil For Disney

January 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

emma-stone

Disney is busy working its way through just about every classic animated movie it’s ever made in order to turn them live-action. 101 Dalmatians has already had that treatment back in the 1990s with Glenn Close as Cruella de Vil. Now though the House Of Mouse is having another go, this time with an origin story, to let us now how the fur obsessed villainess got to be the way she is..

Now the movie may have found its lead, as Variety reports that Emma Stone is in talks for the movie, which is currently going by the simple title, Cruella de Vil.

Not too much more is known about the movie, although it will be interesting to see with Cruella was always evil, or whether this will be a Maleficent-like tale that will show her to be misunderstood. Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote Cinderella and contributed to Maleficent, is writing the script.

Disney is currently looking for a director, with the hope the movie can go into production before the end of the year.

Ben Mendelsohn Wanted For Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One

January 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ben-Mendelsohn

Back in September Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Ready Player One got its first star when Olivia Cooke signed up for the movie. Now she may be getting some company, as Variety reports Ben Mendelsohn is in early talks for the film. Assuming he ends up joining the movie, he’ll be the villain.

Mendelsohn is best known for Animal Kingdom, The Dark Knight Rises, Exodus: Gods & Kings, but is likely to become a better known name by the end of the year, thanks to his major role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is out in December.

The movie will be based on Ernie Cline’s novel. Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade’s devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world’s digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator’s obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them. But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade’s going to survive, he’ll have to win—and confront the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.’

The main thing the movie is currently lacking is someone to play Wade, but that’s likely to change soon, as Spielberg is currently testing a range of young actors to play the role. The film should be in cinemas December 15th, 2017.

Michael Bay Confirms He’s Returning To Direct Transformers 5

January 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

michael-bayAfter the third Transformers movie, Michael Bay said he was done directing the franchise. However, then Paramount promised to fund his passion project, Pain & Gain, if he came back for a fourth outing. But according to Bay, that was definitely it.

Now things have changed again, as a couple of months ago he entered talk to direct the fifth instalment, and now he’s confirmed he’s taken the gig. He told Rolling Stone, “I’m doing Transformers … 5, is it?…Transformers, I still have a great time. It’s fun to do a movie that 100 million people will see. But this is the last one. I have to pass the reins to someone else.”

When reminded that he’s said that before, he replied. “I know. J.J. [Abrams] told me, ‘You’re the only guy that could do this.’ But it’s time to move on. One more.”

We’ll have to see whether he sticks to his word (and to be honest there are quite a few people who’d like him to step aside and give someone else a chance to see whether they can bring something a bit different to the franchise). Mark Wahlberg is also expected to return, with a 2017 release planned.

First Image From Matt Damon’s Return As Jason Bourne

January 2, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bourne-5-pic1Poor old Jeremy Renner, in everything from Avengers to Mission: Impossible it’s looked like he’s been on the verge of being handed his own massive franchise, only to end up slightly on the edge. Now it’s happening with the Bourne franchise, as rather than him starring in the planned follow-up to Bourne Legacy, Matt Damon is returning alongside director Paul Greengrass for Bourne 5.

It doesn’t have an official title yet, but we do have the first image, which we almost didn’t post because it’s so, well, dull. After all, it could have been Damon in any movie. He doesn’t even have his shirt off or anything.

EW also has a few new bits of info on the plot, saying it’ll be set in 2016, 12 years after the 2004 setting of The Bourn Ultimatum. Jason has apparently been off the grid in that time, but comes out of hiding in order to find our more about his past.

Damon says, “We find him in a dark and tortured place,” before adding that the plot also involves the changes that have taken place in the past dozen years, “There’s been the financial collapse, the great recession, all these issues of cyberwarfare and civil liberties.” Bourne 5 will be out this summer.
