Henry Cavill & Luke Evans Head For Sand Castle, Joining Nicholas Hoult

October 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

henry-cavillFor a year and a half Nicholas Hoult has been attached to the war drama Sand Castle, but it’s only now that he’s getting some co-stars, with fellow Brits Henry Cavill and Luke Evans joining him.

Based on a true story, the film chronicles the story of Chris Roessner’s two years and more than 200 missions as a machine gunner in Iraq’s Sunni Triangle. The story centres on Matt Ocre (Hoult) and the leader of his platoon, Sergeant Baker (Evans), as they attempt to protect Baqubah, a dangerous farming village.

Cavill meanwhile will be a special forces captain who is running the whole thing.

Fernando Coimbra, who has helmed several episodes of Netflix’s Narcos, is set to direct the movie, which will start shooting next month.

New Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension Trailer – Secrets are promised from the final instalment

October 8, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

paranormal-activity-ghost-dimension-poster-slideAfter lacklustre box office for Paranormal Activity 4, the main franchise took a bit of a break (although the spin-off The Marked Ones), but now it’s coming back with what’s currently planned as the final instalment. As you’d hope, it promises to reveal all the series’ secrets.

This time the action goes back in time to show us a little more about the entity that plagued various people in the other movies. It follows Ryan, Emily and their daughter Leila, who unsurprisingly get plagued by something demonic – all of which is captured of video, of course, as apparently this is a supernatural baddie with a big ego, who must be on camera at all times.

The movie will also feature the return of Katie Featherstone from the first film, in demonic form.

The film will be out towards the end of the month. [Read more…]

Tatiana Maslany Joins Jake Gyllenhaal In Boston Marathon Bombing Movie, Stronger

October 8, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tatiana-maslanyShortly after the Boston Marathon bombing there was an unsurprising but rather unsightly scramble to start developing movies about the events. Thankfully things slowed down after that initial rush, but now one is moving forward, Stronger, which Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star in.

Now Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany is in talks to join him, according to TheWrap.

Gyllenhaal is set to play  Jeff Bauman, who survived the bombing but lost both legs. Bauman had a central role in the event, as film will ‘detail the aftermath of the 2013 attack at the marathon finish line, where Bauman had been cheering for his girlfriend [to be played by Maslany]. A photo of Bauman moments after the blast remains one of the best-known images from the tragedy, which killed three and injured more than 260. When Bauman awoke the next day after surgeries and realized he could not speak, he asked for a pad and paper and wrote: “Saw the guy. Looked right at me.” That set off a massive manhunt for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who was convicted of the murders in April.’

David Gordon Green is set to direct the movie, with John Pollono writing the script, based on a book by Bauman and Bret Witter.

Take A First Look At Disney’s Latest Princess, Moana

October 7, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

moana-pic1It’s been a long time now that Dwayne Johnson has been attached to voice a character in Disney’s planned animated movie, Moana. However he’s been the only actor we’ve heard about.

Now Disney has announced who it is who will be playing the title character, with Hawaii-born 14-year old actress Auli’i Cravalho having scored the role. Alongside the news comes the first official picture and a video introducing us to Cravalho.

The first footage from the movie was shown in August as Disney’s D23 expo, and it was enthusiastically received by those who were there. That footage hasn’t been released online, so sadly we can’t all judge what it was like.

Ron Clements and John Musker (The Little Mermaid) are set to direct the movie. Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, Moana, a born navigator, sets sail in search of a fabled island. During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore.’

Dwayne Johnson is set to voice demi-god Maui, who’s the other character in the pic above.

It’ll be in cinemas towards the end of next year. [Read more…]

Ellen Page To Lead The Cast Of The Planned Flatliners Remake

October 6, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ellen-pageFor a while now Neils Arden Oplev, who directed the original Scandinavian adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, has been attached to helm a new version of Joel Schumacher’s 1990 movie Flatliners.

Now he’s starting to find his cast, with Variety reporting that Ellen Page is in talks to star. Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland and Kevin Bacon as a group of medical students interested in what happens at the point of death. They start secrets experiments where they stop each others hearts, but revive them before it’s too later. However once they get a taste of what’s on the other side, they want longer and longer there – and they may be bringing something back.

There’s no news on the exact character than X-Men and Freeheld star Ellen Page will play, but presumably she’ll be a medical student.

F. Gary Gray Up To Direct Fast & Furious 8 & Black Panther

October 6, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

f-gary-grayIt seems The Italian Job and Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray s the man of the moment, as THR reports that he’s entered exclusive negotiations to helm Fast & Furious 8, while Variety adds that he’s also in the running to direct Marvel’s Black Panther.

Universal have been busy looking for a Furious 8 director ever since James Wan decided he didn’t want to helm. With an April 2017 release set they didn’t have much time, and hot on the heels of reports that they’d narrowed it down to a few name came reports of negotiations officially beginning with Gray.

Vin Diesel also confirmed it, posting a picture of him meeting Gray – an important part of the process, as Vin has to approve the director for him to get the job.

While the Black Panther news is less certain, it appear Gray is high up the list of potential directors. Selma‘s Ava DuVernay was previously attached to that one, but she has since left. However Gray may have difficulty making both, as with Black Panther set for summer 2018, he’d have to jump from one film to the other pretty quickly.
