Eddie Redmayne Is The Top Choice For Harry Potter Spin-off Fantastic Beasts

April 11, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Eddie-RedmayneFor quite some time JK Rowling has been working on the script for the Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, with the first part of the three movie series coming November 18th, 2016 (with 2018 & 2019 set for the parts 2 &3). There’s also a director, with David Yates set to return to the Potter realm for the movie.

What’s the film is currently lacking is someone to play the movie’s hero, Newt Scamander, but now Variety says Yates and Warner Bros. are narrowing down their choices and that currently Eddie Redmayne is the top choice for the role. No offer has been made and a few other actors are being considered, including Nicholas Hoult, but the Theory Of Everything Oscar winner is the front-runner.

The movie is set 70 years before the Harry Potter movies and follows ‘magiczoologist’ Scamander after he sets out to write the book Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them (which is one of Harry’s textbooks). The other main characters are two American girls and two American boys, who will be cast soon.

First Official Look At Ant-Man’s Villainous Yellowjacket

April 11, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ant-man-yellowjacketAlthough there have been a couple of unofficial glimpses

, EW has now given us the first proper reveal of Ant Man’s villainous character, Yellowjacket, who it has to be said is looking pretty cool.

If you look hard, you’ll also see the tiny Ant Man himself is in the photo, but it’s tough to see how at that size he’s going to survive a punch from a plasma-cannon wielding bad guy.

However Director Peyton Reed comments, “Hank Pym’s Ant-Man suit doesn’t have a single weapon, whereas Yellowjacket is armed with plasma cannons. Ant-Man is very fast when he’s small. Also, when he shrinks, he increases his density, so he’s got increased strength.”

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man.” Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Marvel’s “Ant-Man” stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Darren Cross aka Yellowjacket, Bobby Cannavale as Paxton, Michael Peña as Luis, Judy Greer as Maggie, Tip “Ti” Harris as Dave, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Wood Harris as Gale, Jordi Mollà as Castillo and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym. Directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s “Ant-Man” delivers a high-stakes, tension-filled adventure on July 17, 2015.’

Furious 7 Director James Wan Sought For Aquaman

April 11, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-wanA few months ago Warner & DC announced a huge slate of movies that they’re planning to make over the next few years, from Justice League to Wonder Woman. However a lot of those movies are currently lacking directors, although if Warner gets its way, they’ll fill the Aquaman job with James Wan, according to THR.

The helmer is currently extremely hot after helping Furious 7 to a record-breaking opening weekend. Many had wondered if he was the right man for the job as up to that point he’d only had success in horror, such as Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring, but he’s proven he can handle a massive action franchise.

Aquaman isn’t set for release until 2018, which should give Wan time to make The Conjuring 2 (which is shooting this autumn) and perhaps even another Fast & Furious sequel before his massive superhero movie is released.

Jason Momoa is set to play Aquaman and will first be seen in 2016’s Batman v Superman. It doesn’t appear Wan has signed the deal to direct yet, but it appears one will be sorted soon.

Ryan Gosling Up For Guillermo Del Toro’s Haunted Mansion

April 11, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ryan-goslingIt’s been several years since Guillermo Del Toro announced he was working on a movie based on Disney’s Haunted Mansion theme park ride. However we haven’t heard much about it since then, but now TheWrap reports that a deal is in the works for Ryan Gosling to star in the movie.

It would appear Del Toro and Gosling may have been plotting this for some time, as the director moderated a panel featuring the actor at SXSW and over Oscar weekend they were spotted together at Disney California Adventure.

There’s no news on the plot, but five years ago when Del Toro first announced the film, he said he wanted to create “a heightened reality, which is super designed, incredibly innovative, narratively and visually.” He added that he wanted to make “the Haunted Mansion the most haunted place on Earth… doing it by being true to the spirit and the art and the aesthetic of the original Imagineers that created the mansion.”

He’s also suggested it would be made in live-action 3D.

New Hot Pursuit Trailer – Reese Witherspoon has to protect Sofia Vergara

April 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Hot-Pursuit-QuadSofia Vergara and Reese Witherspoon are going to be hoping that they can repeat the success of The Heat this summer with their comedy Hot Pursuit. Now we can get a feel for whether they might be onto a success as a new trailer has been released.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and New Line Cinema comes the comedy “Hot Pursuit,” starring Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon (“Walk the Line,” “Wild”) and Sofia Vergara (“Chef,” TV’s “Modern Family”), under the direction of Anne Fletcher (“The Proposal”).

‘In “Hot Pursuit,” an uptight and by-the-book cop (Witherspoon) tries to protect the sexy and outgoing widow (Vergara) of a drug boss as they race through Texas, pursued by crooked cops and murderous gunmen.

Fletcher directs from a screenplay written by David Feeney (TV’s “New Girl”) & John Quaintance (TV’s “Ben & Kate”) and Dana Fox (“What Happens in Vegas”) & Katherine Silberman (TV’s “Ben & Kate”). John Carroll Lynch (“Crazy, Stupid, Love.”) and Rob Kazinsky (“Pacific Rim”) also star.’

The movie is due out July 31st. [Read more…]

Sinister 2 Trailer – Things are getting creepy once more

April 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sinister-2-posterBack in 2012 Sinister was a surprise success, being far creepier and effective than anyone had expected. As soon as it became a hit a sequel was announced, which was initially planned to come out only a year after the first movie.

It’s taken a little longer than that, but original writers Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill are now back with Ciaran Foy (Citadel) directing (Derrickson was also due to helm, but stepped aside when he signed on the make Marvel’s Doctor Strange).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the aftermath of the shocking events in “Sinister,” a protective mother (Shannyn Sossamon of “Wayward Pines”) and her 9-year-old twin sons (real-life twins Robert and Dartanian Sloan) find themselves in a rural house marked for death as the evil spirit of Bughuul continues to spread with frightening intensity.’

The trailer suggests this won’t be a movie that tries to reinvent the wheel, instead going for some old-school horror thriller. The movie is due out in August. [Read more…]

Paul Bettany’s Vision Finally Gets An Avengers: Age Of Ultron Poster

April 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

avengers-age-of-ultron-vision-bannerSeveral weeks ago a slew of posters were released featuring the main characters from Avengers: Age Of Ultron, from Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Quicksilver to Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man. However one character was missing – Paul Bettany’s vision.

Marvel has now remedied that with a great poster featuring Paul Bettany’s slightly creepy-looking character in the movie.

Not too much is known about how the character plays into the film, although it is known Vision is creating the J.A.R.V.I.S. technology which Bettany has voiced in earlier Marvel movie. There will definitely be problems with that though, as the  Ultron also emerges when Tony Stark’s plans to use technology to create guardians who will protect the world when the superheroes aren’t available goes horribly wrong. It would seem reasonable to assume Ultron and Vision are two sides of the same idea.

Indeed recent reports suggest Vision is created when the robotic Ultron goes rogue and tries to destroy J.A.R.V.I.S., but accidentally gives birth to something unexpected.

Jamie Bell Goes CGI In TheFirst Official Look At Fantastic Four’s The Thing

April 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fantastic-four-empire-pic5

After getting a later start on promoting Fantastic Four (partly because the footage wasn’t ready), even he first pics and trailers hid one big thing – a proper look at The Thing, who will be fully CGI in this new take on the Marvel Comics.

However now he’s been revealed in the pic above, and as you can see, he’s not exactly as good-looking as the character who’ll be voicing him (and playing his pre-superhero human side), Jamie Bell.

Empire has also debuted a couple more pics, which you can see below.

Bell will be joined by Miles Teller as Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara as the Invisible Woman, and Michael B. Jordan as The Human Torch.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.’ The film is due out in August. [Read more…]

April 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

suicide-squad-cast-photoDC/Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad is going into production very soon and to prepare the cast have gotten together for a read-through of the script, and to mark the occasion director David Ayer has posted a great cast photo on Twitter.

Ayer appears in the pic with Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), Will Smith (Deadshot), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Jay Hernandez (unknown), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Karen Fukuhara (unknown) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller).

Ike Barinholtz and Adam Beach are also included, although as this is the first we knew of them being in the movie, there’s no info on who they’ll play. There’s no Jared Leto on hand, who’s playing The Joker, but it’s not clear why not.

The movie revolveds around an array of supervillains, who have all been captured but are offered the chance for redemption by taking on a mission from which none of them are expected to return alive.
David Ayer is set to direct, with an August 5th, 2016 release date already been set. [Read more…]

Daniel Radcliffe Will Invent Grand Theft Auto & Make It More Violent

April 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

daniel-radcliffe-what-ifDaniel Radcliffe is set to star in Grand Theft Auto – although this isn’t an adaptation of the hi game series itself, it’s about the co-founder and president of Rockstar Games, Sam Houser, and a fight he ended up getting embroiled in.

The film will follow how, after helping build his company into a videogame powerhouse with titles such as GTA and Max Payne (and it’s him who’s often credited with being wanting to make the games increasingly violent), ‘Houser and Rockstar Games came under repeated attacks from activist attorney Jack Thompson. Thompson was an unorthodox Florida attorney who was already attacking media companies for pushing rap and sex onto the airwaves when he turned his attention to what he saw as an obsession of glorifying violence in the video game industry. GTA was one of his favorite targets. He was disbarred in 2008 for inappropriate behaviour.’

Radcliffe will play Houser in the movie, which is due to start shooting April 20th. James Wood wrote the script with Owen Harris set to direct the BBC Films movie.
