Big Hero 6 Sizzle Reel – A great new look at the Disney-Marvel animation

October 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

big-hero-6-pic3Big Hero 6 certainly seems like it’s going to be something a little different from Disney Animation, which perhaps isn’t too much of a surprising considering it’s based on a Marvel property. It’s only a few weeks until it’s released in the US, and so the House Of Mouse decided New York Comic Con would be a good place to show off some new footage.

And now the Sizzle Reel has been released for us all to take a look at, where you can really feel the fusion of Disney, Marvel and Japanese influences, not least the work of Hayao Miyazaki.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘With all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Big Hero 6” is an action-packed comedy-adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius—thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion—a robot named Baymax—and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action, “Big Hero 6” is directed by Don Hall (“Winnie the Pooh”) and Chris Williams (“Bolt”), and produced by Roy Conli (“Tangled”). The film hits UK cinemas in 3D in January 2015.’

Take a look at the new footage below. [Read more…]

Focus Trailer – Will Smith turns con man opposite Margot Robbie

October 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

focus-slideWill Smith has been very picky about what movies he’ll star in for the last few years, however he’s got a new one coming up called Focus, where he turns con man who take a younger grafter under his wing (and as you can see from the pic above, he’s certainly been hitting the gym).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Will Smith stars as Nicky, a seasoned master of misdirection who becomes romantically involved with novice con artist Jess (Margot Robbie). As he’s teaching her the tricks of the trade, she gets too close for comfort and he abruptly breaks it off. Three years later, the former flame—now an accomplished femme fatale—shows up in Buenos Aires in the middle of the high-stakes racecar circuit. In the midst of Nicky’s latest, very dangerous scheme, she throws his plans for a loop… and the consummate con man off his game.’

It’s something a bit different for Will, whose previously been known to turn down roles if his character wasn’t an out-and-out good guy, and that certainly doesn’t seem to be the case here. The movie is due out early 2015. [Read more…]

Tommorowland Teaser Trailer – George Clooney gives us a glimpse of the future

October 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tomorrowland-teaser-posterDisney and director Brad Bird have been keeping their cards very close to their chest about Tomorrowland. However New York Comic Con is where they’re chosen to start the hype, keeping the intrigue by giving us a poster, pics and a teaser trailer that give us glimpses but don’t show us too much.

We also have an official plot synopsis, which reads: ‘From Disney comes two-time Oscar® winner Brad Bird’s riveting, mystery adventure “Tomorrowland,” starring Academy Award® winner George Clooney. Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever.’

As you can see from the teaser, it looks like it could be pretty cool. Writer Damon Lindelof has compared the film to Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of a Third Kind, saying that it is all about discovery. If you’re wondering what this has to do with the part of Disneyland of the same name, the movie apparently suggests that it may have been a trip Walt Disney took to the enigmatic Tomorrowland that inspired his park.

The film is due out May 2015. Take a look at a couple of pics and the teaser trailer below. [Read more…]

Casey Affleck Up For Marathon Bombing Drama

October 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

casey-affleckCasey Affleck was born and raised in Boston, so it’s not too much of a surprise he’d he interested in signing up to produce and star in an adaptation of the book Boston Strong, about the Boston Marathon bombing, according to Variety.

The movie was put into development back in July 2013, but the book, Casey Sherman and Boston Herald reporter David Wedge, doesn’t just tell the story of the bombing and the manhunt that followed, but also attempts to capture the reaction of ordinary Bostonians to the events that overtook their city. It’s not clear who Affleck may play, however.

Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasy (The Fighter) are on scripting duties. It isn’t known when the movie might shoot.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) and the Company of Dwarves. October 2, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Inside-Out-pic12014 is going to be the first year in quite a while that we didn’t get a Pixar movie, but they’re back in 2015 with both The Good Dinosaur and the immensely intriguing Inside Out. Now the first teaser for the latter has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From an adventurous balloon ride above the clouds to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Up”) has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In Disney•Pixar’s original movie “ Inside Out,” he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all—inside the mind.

Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. The Imitation Game UK Trailer – Benedict Cumberbatch takes on Enigma as Alan Turing

October 2, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

imitation-game-poster2-slideNext week the London Film Festival kicks off with a gala screening of The Imitation Game, and then on November 14th it gets its UK release. With that in mind Studiocanal has released a new UK trailer for the film, which you can watch below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘THE IMITATION GAME is a nail-biting race against time following Alan Turing (pioneer of modern-day computing and credited with cracking the German Enigma code) and his brilliant team at Britain’s top-secret code-breaking centre, Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II. Turing, whose contributions and genius significantly shortened the war, saving thousands of lives, was the eventual victim of an unenlightened British establishment, but his work and legacy live on.’

What that for some reason doesn’t mention is that he became a ‘victim’ because he was gay, when he was prosecuted due to his sexuality. That resulted in him being chemically castrated and shunned by the establishment, despite his war achievements. He eventually died on cyanide poisoning in what most believe to be suicide.
