The Star Wars Episode VII Cast Is Announced, Including John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis & Domhnall Gleeson

April 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

star-wars-episode-vii-script-readingJJ Abrams has been keeping very quiet about the cast for Star Wars Episode VII, but with the shoot starting to gear up and the likes of Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill & Carrie Fisher seen in London, many presumed we’d find out who would be in the film on Star Wars Day, May 4th.

However it’s come sooner that that with Lucasfilm & Disney issuing the following release: ‘The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

‘Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker in the new film.

‘Director J.J. Abrams says, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

‘Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.’

There’s no news on who the new cast will play, although it’s believed Attack The Block’s Boyega will be a Jedi apprentice, while Girls’ Adam Driver is one of the main villains. It’s a fair bet that Andy Serkis will be playing a motion capture character, but it’s less clear what Inside Llewyn Davis’ Oscar Isaac, About Time’s Domhnall Gleeson or relative newcomer Daisy Ridley will be doing.

Along with the release came the pick above from a cast script reading.

Justin Kurzel To Direct Michael Fassbender In Assassin’s Creed

April 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

justin-kurzelIt’s getting on for two years since Michael Fassbender signed up to star in a movie version of the hit videogame Assassin’s Creed. The movie has slowly been moving forward, with Daniel Epinosa expressing interest in directing and various writers coming and going.

However now Espinosa has gone as Variety reports that Justin Kurzel is in talks to helm the film. If he does come onboard it will reunite the Snowtown helmer with his Macbeth star, Fassbender.

A few weeks after Bill Collage and Adam Cooper (Exodus: Gods and Kings) came aboard to rewrite the script, based on the game about a bartender who learns that his ancestors were trained assassins. He is kidnapped by a group tied to the secret society Knights Templar and forced to travel through time, collecting various historical artifacts to be used for a higher purpose.

The hope is to go into production as soon as possible, meaning it’s likely Kurzel’s deal will be finalized very soon.

Eddie Redmayne Takes On Transgender Tale The Danish Girl

April 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

eddie-redmayneBack in 2009 Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One in) was set to direct set to direct a movie about Lili Elbe, one of the first people to have gender reassignment surgery, with Nicole Kidman and Gwyneth Paltrow set to star.

However the movie didn’t get off the ground at the time, but now Les Miserables and King’s Speech director Tom Hooper has come onboard The Danish Girl, with Deadline reporting that he will reunite with Eddie Redmayne for the film.

The film is based on David Ebershoff’s book about Danish painter Einar Wegener (Eddie Redmayne) and his wife Gerda. In 1931 Einar is thought to have become the first person in the world to have a sex-change operation, when he became Lili Elbe. It’s believed the journey started – at least openly – after Gerda asked Einar to stand in for a female subject that Gerda was supposed to paint. The painting became incredibly popular and Lili began to express who she truly was.

Personally we’re thinking Redmayne makes more sense in the role than Kidman.

Tom Hooper will direct from a script by Lucinda Coxon (Crimson Peak).

Director Roland Emmerich Plans Historical Adventure Maya Lord

April 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

roland-emmerich-slideRoland Emmerich is a busy man. He’s shooting his gay rights drama Stonewall this Spring, and he’s also gearing up to finally make the long-awaited Independence Day 2, which is expected to come directly after Stonewall.

However he’s already looking past that as Deadline reports that he has snapped up the screen rights to John Coe Robbins’ historical novel, Maya Lord.

The book is based on the true story of Gonzalo Guerrero, who in 1511 got shipwrecked during a storm and ended up on an uncharted shore in the New World. He and his crew members were then enslaved by a Mayan tribe. Soon realising there was little hope of escape (where were they going to go?), Guerrero decided to try to find ways to fit in with and advance in their society.

The Spaniard eventually became one of the tribe’s top warlords, which pitted his against his former countrymen when Cortes and other Spanish conquistadors arrived. Guerrero eventually married the daughter of a Mayan chief and is regarded as the father of the first Mestizo family, a term given to individuals of European and Native American descent.

Emmerich has apparently fascinated by the story for several years, although it won’t be his next project and hopes to turn it into a movie.

Sandra Bullock May Have A Tupperware Party With The Help Director Tate Taylor

April 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sandra-BullockSandra Bullock’s stock has never been higher following the double-whammy success of The Heat and Gravity. Now she’s planning films for the future, with THR reporting that she’s circling a currently untitled film about Tupperware, which openly gay The Help director Tate Taylor is helming.

If she does sign on, she would play sales exec Brownie Wise who in the 1950s helped revolutionise Earl Silas Tupper’s Tupperware brand when she came up with the idea of holding parties to sell the goods. Wise became ‘as popular as the product she was selling and in 1954 she also became the first woman to appear on the cover of Business Week’.

However despite her popularity she clashed with Tupper and was pushed out in 1958. The company’s founder then tried his best to erase her from the company records. She is considered one of the first casualties of the post-World War II sexism wars.

Bullock isn’t officially signed on as yet, but she has met with Taylor about the movie. The director wrote the script based on Tupperware Unsealed, the non-fiction book written by Bob Kealing.

Will Ferrell Will Try To Steal The Crown Jewels In The Yank

April 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Will-FerrellIt’s the season for Will Ferrell to attach himself to new movies. He’s already added his name to a couple of project in the last few weeks, and now Deadline reports that Tri-Star Pictures has picked up the comedy pitch The Yank, which has Ferrell attached to star.

Steve Pink and Jeff Morris are set to write the script, which is about a timid insurance courier (Will Ferrell) who gets caught up in a plot to steal the Britich Crown Jewels in London.

It’s early days for the film at the moment as it’s only at the pitch stage and no director is currently attached.
The project doesn’t have a director attached at this time.

Unsurprisingly it’s not known when it will shoot.

Johnny Knoxville Will Take A Sick Day In A New Comedy

April 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

johnny-knoxvilleA few years ago Johnny Knoxville seemed to be in everything. He’s a bit more discerning nowadays though, with Deadline reporting he’s set to star in the Universal Pictures comedy Sick Day.

Knoxville will play one of three friends who have an tradition of calling in sick one day every year. They use it to take the opportunity to fulfill their wildest fantasies, hopefully without getting caught.

It’s being described as being in the vein of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

Jordan Cahan (My Best Friend’s Girl) is rewriting the original script by Jeremy Garelick. It’s not known when the film will shoot.

Tomas Alfredson Will Make The Snowman, Replacing Martin Scorsese

April 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tomas-alfredsonBack in 2011 Martin Scorsese confirmed that he wanted to direct a film version of Jo Nesbo’s novel, The Snowman. However he’s now moved on and the movie has a new helmer in the form of Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One in, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy), according to Variety.

Scorsese is still attached as an executive producer on the film, which follows Oslo detective Harry Hole, a loose cannon who is investigating the disappearance of a woman, whose pink scarf is found wrapped around a sinister-looking snowman.

Matthew Michael Carnahan wrote the initial version of the script, but now Tomas Alfredson will work on a new draft of the screenplay with Sø Sveistrup.

Harry Hole has been part of 10 of Jo Nesbø’s novels, so there’s plenty of room for a franchise if The Snowman is a success.

Zack Snyder Confirmed To Direct Justice League

April 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zack-snyder-slideThere’s been a presumption that the planned Batman Vs. Superman movie will lead to a Justice League film. However until now Warner has officially confirmed that. Now though they’ve not just said it’s going to happen, they’ve announced Zack Snyder will direct.

Batman Vs. Superman begins production next month, and there’s some suggestion that Justice League will shoot back to back with that movie, although that’s not been confirmed.

It appears if they’re shooting separately we’ll get Justice League in 2018, but if it’s back to back it’ll be 2017.

Specific plot or casting details have not been revealed, but it is almost certain that Henry Cavill will return as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonderwoman. Ray Fisher is expected to make a cameo in Batman Vs. Superman as Cyborg and then appear in Justice League.

There’s no confirmation on what other DC superheroes might appear in the movie.
