Grace Of Monaco Teaser – Nicole Kidman does her best Grace Kelly impression

September 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

The Principality Of Monaco is already a bit techy about Grace Of Monaco, saying they don’t think it’s a proper true representation of a short part of Grace Kelly’s life, after she became wife to the leader of the small nation. But then, ever since Kelly retired from movies when she married, the royal family has been incredibly protective of her and her memory.

Now the first teaser trailer is here.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The story of former Hollywood star Grace Kelly’s crisis of marriage and identity, during a political dispute between Monaco’s Prince Rainier III and France’s Charles De Gaulle, and a looming French invasion of Monaco in the early 1960s.’

The supposed invasion was when French President Charles de Gaulle handed Grace’s husband Crown Prince Rainier (Tim Roth) a six-month deadline to reform Monaco’s financial laws and status as an extreme tax haven. Monaco has said the film overstates the threat of an actual invasion, as well as Kelly’s involvement in it, but then, this is Hollywood – where Grace made her name – so what did they expect?

Frank Langella, Parker Posey, Milo Ventimiglia, and Paz Vega also star. It’s due in UK cinemas at the end of November. [Read more…]

Paul Walker & Vin Diesel Stare In The First Official Fast & Furious 7 Image

September 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Vin Diesel loves to share things with his fans on his Facebook page. He spent years keeping them up to date on Riddick and now he’s released the first image from Fast & Furious 7, which shows the actor alongside Paul Walker looking very serious by a lake.

There’s not been too much new on the plot, other than the film will return the series to LA, with Diesel and Walker going up against Jason Statham as Ian Shaw, the brother of Fast & Furious 6 villain, Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). New cast additions for the franchise include UFC fighter Ronda Rousey, martial artist Tony Jaa, Game of Thrones star Nathalie Emmanuel, Djimon Hounsou and Kurt Russell, with returning actors including Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Dwayne Johnson and Jordana Brewster.

James Wan (The Conjuring, Insidious Chapter 2) is directing from a screenplay by Chris Morgan. The film starts shooting later this year for release July 11th, 2014

Insidious Chapter 2 Hits It Big At The US Box Office

September 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

insidious-chapter-2-poster1After a few low budget horror flops, news of the genre’s demise has been extremely premature, as Insidious Chapter 2 has scored the second highest September opening ever with $41 million, behind only last year’s Hotel Transylvania.

It’s three time more than the first movie took when it opened, suggesting the franchise has gained a lot of fans, and about on par with the same director’s The Conjuring, which opened in July.

The only other new entry in the top 10 was The Family, which took a decent but unspectacular $14.5 million. That said, it’s actually one of Robert De Niro’s best openings for years outside the Meet The Fockers franchise. However with mediocre word of mouth, it’s unlikely to do well over the coming weeks.

There was good news for The Butler, which passed the $100 million mark at the North American box office.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of September 13th-15th.

Rank Title Weekend Gross (millions) Total Gross to date (millions)
1 Insidious Chapter 2 $41.0 $41.0
2 The Family $14.5 $14.5
3 Riddick $7.0 $31.2
4 Lee Daniels’ The Butler $5.5 $100.0
5 We’re The Millers $5.4 $131.6
6 Instructions Not Included $4.2 $26.5
7 Planes $3.0 $82.9
8 One Direction: This Is Us $2.4 $26.8
9 Elysium $2.0 $88.3
10 Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters $1.8 $62.0

Glee’s Grant Gustin To Play The Flash In Arrow & His Own Spin-Off Series

September 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

grant-gustinSome of you may remember Grant Gustin as Glee’s Sebastian, who tried to steal Blane from Kurt. He’s also popped up on 90210 and the TV movie A Mother’s Nightmare. Now he may be getting his own series, as TheWrap reports that he’s been cast as The Flash in Arrow.

The plan is that the DC Comics character will appear in three episode of Season 2 of Arrow. He’ll be introduced in episodes 8 and 9, before returning in episode 20, which will also act as a backdoor pilot for a standalone Flash series, which is currently planned to start airing in 2014.

Gustin’s character will be called Barry, who is a Central City assistant police forensic investigator who comes to Starling City to look into a series of unexplained robberies. ‘A comic book fan boy, who is obsessed with Arrow (Stephen Amell) unaware that working with Oliver and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) to solve the crime has brought him right into the dangerous world of the vigilante.’

As with Arrow, the idea is to try to base things at least tangentially in reality. However, it hasn’t been revealed how this will fit with the fact Flash is best known for his ‘super-speed’, which suggests Barry is going to have to get at least some superpowers. The character will initially be a normal person, who will transition into The Flash over the course of his Arrow episodes.

Stephen Amell commented on Twitter ‘Hey @grantgust… You should probably start stretching your hamstrings like… immediately. Congratulations!! #Flash’.

Co-star Colton Haynes added, ‘#Arrowseason2 has found it’s Flash! Congrats @GrantGust , welcome aboard bud!’

Colin Firth & Nicole Kidman Lead Live-Action Paddington Bear Cast

September 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

colin-firth-2It’s been announced that principal photography has begun for family adventure Paddington, based on the beloved fictional character bear, created by Michael Bond in 1958.

It’s also the first info we’ve had about the cast, which it has to be said is perhaps surprisingly good for the CG-live action mix. Colin Firth gets the lead role as the voice of Paddington Bear, with Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey) as Mr. Brown, who take in the bear from Deepest Darkest Peru when he arrives in London, and Nicole Kidman (The Hours, Rabbit Hole, Moulin Rouge) as an evil taxidermist determined to wreak her revenge. They are joined by Sally Hawkins as Mrs. Brown, Julie Walters as Mrs. Bird, the housekeeper, and Jim Broadbent as Mr. Gruber, the owner of the antiques shop.

The movie will follow the comic misadventures of a young Peruvian bear with a passion for all things British who travels to London in search of a home. Finding himself lost and alone at Paddington Station, he begins to realize that city life is not all he had imagined – until he meets the kindly Brown family who read the label around his neck (‘Please look after this bear. Thank you.’) and offer him a temporary haven. It looks as though his luck has changed until this rarest of bears catches the eye of a museum taxidermist…

The film is produced by Harry Potter’s David Heyman, with Paul King (Come Fly with Me, The Mighty Boosh) directing. It’s due open in the UK November 28, 2014, with The Weinstein Company recently picking up the North American rights, with plans to release it there in the first quarter of 2015.

Michael Shannon Moving Into 99 Homes With Andrew Garfield

Michael-ShannonMichael Shannon had a big summer with Man Of Steel, but now he’s teaming up with an actor from a competing superhero franchise, as THR reports that he will appear alongside Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield in the drama 99 Homes.

The film is about a young man (Garfield) who loses his house to foreclosure. Desperate for work, he ends up taking a job with the shady real estate broker (Shannon) who took his home away. He becomes involved in a plot to embezzle money from the government and begins to regret taking the job, despite his desperate circumstances.

Ramin Bahrani is directing from his own screenplay. The film will start shooting soon for release next year.

Mama Director Andres Muschietti Up For The Mummy Reboot

September 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Andres-MuschiettiAndres Muschietti’s Mama turned out to be far more successful than most had expected. It certainly made Hollywood more interested him, and now TheWrap reports that he’s close to a deal to direct the planned reboot of The Mummy franchise.

He replace Len Wiseman, who dropped out a couple of months ago due to scheduling issues.

No plot details have been released except that the project is being pitched as a modern-day action-adventure tentpole with horror elements and brand new characters. The previous Mummy movies were set in the 1920s.

Billy Ray (Captain Phillips) was brought on to handle the script in February, who’s writing a competing draft to Jon Spaihts’ (Prometheus) original script. Although the original plan was to pick one or the other, it’s now thought Universal wants to combine both screenplays into one shooting draft. It’s not been announced when it might shoot.

Jack Black Circles Goosebumps Movie For His Gulliver’s Travel Director!

September 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jack-BlackA film version of RL Stein’s Goosebumps series has been on the cards for quite a while, but now it’s finally moving forward with the news that Jack Black is in negotiations to star. If he does sign up, the actor will reunite with his Gulliver’s Travels and Shark Tale director Rob Letterman, according to TheWrap.

The actor will apparently play an author modelled after Goosebumps creator R.L. Stine, whose characters literally come to life, forcing him to hide from his own creations.

Darren Lemke wrote the most recent draft of the script, which was previously worked on by Carl Ellsworth (Disturbia), Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (Monopoly). There’s no news on when it might shoot.

Grudge Match Trailer – Rocky Balboa & Jake La Motta take to the ring

September 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Who would win in a fight between Rocky Balboa & Jake La Motta? I’m sure many have wondered about that hypothetical situation, where the stars of Rocky and Raging Bull meet in the ring. Now we’re going to get as close to that as we ever will, as Sylvester Stallone & Rober De Niro step back in the ring for Grudge Match.

The film is about two retired boxers (De Niro and Stallone) who step back into the ring to settle an old score. Jon Bernthal will play De Niro’s estranged son, who feels conflicted about training his father. Kevin Hart, Kim Basinger, and Alan Arkin have also signed on to star.

Peter Segal is directing, with a Christmas US release set and the film reaching the UK on January 17th. [Read more…]

Homefront Trailer – James Franco faces off against Jason Statham

September 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

James Franco and Jason Statham don’t seem like obvious co-stars, but Franco continues his ridiculously eclectic career with Homefront, which see James as a very nasty character who goes up against Statham.

The movie is about Phil Broker (Jason Statham), a former DEA agent who moves his family to a quiet town to escape his past. However, he discovers the town is overrun by a dangerous meth distributor named Gator (James Franco).

Interestingly the script was written by Sylvester Stallone, based on Chuck Logan’s novel, although he neither stars not directs the film. It’s due out in November. Take a look at the trailer above. [Read more…]
