New The Hateful Eight Trailer – Quentin Tarantino traps people in a blizzard

November 6, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hateful-eight-slideSynopsis: In THE HATEFUL EIGHT, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice.

Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces.

Bob (Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all…

The movie will be in cinemas early next year.

The Hateful Eight Trailer – Quentin Tarantino traps people in a blizzard

August 13, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hateful-eight-slideAfter a false start where he said he wasn’t going to make The Hateful Eight due to a script leak, Quentin Tarantino’s film is in the can and heading for release at the end of the year. But what’s this return to the 19th Century American West like? Well, the first full trailer as arrived to give us a feel.

And who are the ‘eight’?: Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demian Bichir, Michael Madsen and Bruce Dern.

Take A Look At Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight – Kurt Russell, Tim Roth & More

May 10, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hateful-eight-ew-pic3After throwing his toys out of the pram and saying he wasn’t go to make the movie, due to a script leak, Quentin Tarantino changed his mind and The Hateful Eight is now in the can and heading for a Christmas release.

To help prepare us EW has given us a look at the eight of the title, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demian Bichir, Michael Madsen and Bruce Dern. It’s certainly a mix of old and new faces for Tarantino, and there’s also a small turn in the movie for Channing Tatum.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In THE HATEFUL EIGHT, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. Selma Trailer – David Oyelowo takes on a key moment in MLK’s civil rights struggle

November 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

selma-pic2You wouldn’t think making a movie about one of the most important moments in the Civil Rights struggle in the US would be that difficult to get off the ground, but Selma faced a massive struggle. Even with Lee Daniels directing and a high profile cast attached (including Hugh Jackman and others), it couldn’t get funding).

However now it’s finally happened, with Ava DuVernay directing and David Oyelowo, Tom Wilkinson, Cuba Gooding Jr., Alessandro Nivola, Giovanni Ribisi Common, Carmen Ejogo, Lorraine Toussaint, Tim Roth, and Oprah Winfrey starring.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘SELMA is the story of a movement. The film chronicles the tumultuous three-month period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition. The epic march from Selma to Montgomery culminated in President Johnson (Tom Wilkinson) signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most significant victories for the civil rights movement. Director Ava DuVernay’s SELMA tells the story of how the revered leader and visionary Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (David Oyelowo) and his brothers and sisters in the movement prompted change that forever altered history.’

Selma opens in a few US cinemas on December 25th, 2014, and will go wide in early January. A February 6th UK release is planned. [Read more…]

Tim Roth Joins The Martin Luther King Jr. Biopic Selma

June 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tim-rothAfter numerous delays due to a lack of funding, the Martin Luther King Jr. biopic, Selma, is finally moving forward. Tim Roth has now signed on to join the growing cast, according to Deadline, playing Alabama governor George Wallace.

The film focuses on the three marches that took place in Selma, Alabama in 1965. The first march planned to go from Selma to the State Capital, Montgomery, but was stopped after only six blocks by police and state troopers after Governor Wallace decided it was a threat to public safety (Wallace hated anything pro-desegregation and was one of the most powerful, vitriolic and visible forces against the civil rights movement). Protesters were them clubbed, gassed and whipped, with the TV footage of the violence shocking the US and galvanising support for civil rights.

A second, symbolic march took place two days later, led by Martin Luther King Jr. (David Oyelowo), which only went as far as the bridge where the previous protesters were stopped, because a court injuction prevented them going all the way to Montgomery. A week later the injuction was lifted and a third march set out, this time making it all the way to the state capital.

It was these marches and the public horror at the beatings of demonstrators that spurred Congress to start drafting laws that ended up with the Voting Rights Act, which for the first time explicitly gave African-Americans the right to vote.

Tom Wilkinson. Carmen Ejogo, Andre Holland, Omar J. Dorsey, Tessa Thompson and Colman Domingo are also set to star.

While Lee Daniels was previously set to direct, he left after being unable to get it off the ground. Ava DuVernay is now helming directing from a script she co-wrote with Paul Webb. The likes of Brad Pitt and Oprah Winfrey will produce.

Grace Of Monaco Trailer – Nicole Kidman plays the iconic Grace Kelly

March 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Grace Of Monaco has had a few issues. It was originally due for a prime Oscar-bait Christma release in the US, but it got caught up in a massive battle between director Olivier Dahan and the notoriously cut-happy producer Harvey Weinsten, who wanted to release his own version the movie. The fight resulted in the movie getting shunted and it’s unclear when it will come out in the US.

However in the UK there’s a different distributor, Warner Bros., and so a lot fewer problems. They’ve now who’ve set a June 6th British release, as well as briging out a poster and full trailer, which you can see here.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set in 1962, six years after her celebrated Wedding of the Century, GRACE OF MONACO is an intimate snapshot of a year in the life of the twentieth century’s most iconic Princess – Grace Kelly – as she strived to reconcile her past and her present, a yearning for a return to the big screen with her newfound role as a mother of two, monarch of a European principality and wife to Prince Ranier III.

‘While contemplating overtures from Alfred Hitchcock to return to her career in Hollywood, Grace found herself plunged into a personal crisis when Rainier’s modernization of an ailing Monaco was halted by Charles de Gaulle – the French President – and his attempts to not only impose French taxation on Monaco, but reclaim the principality for France by force.

‘The full-blown international crisis and impending French invasion that loomed – would pose a crisis not just for her family, her marriage and her country, but in Grace’s private life. It would become the moment in which a cinematic icon, an American far from home, would have to face a tough decision – return to her celebrated status as a movie star, globally loved and adored, or accept that she will never act again, embrace her new role and her new identity, her duty to her husband, her children, and the world’s second smallest country that has now become her home.

‘Grace of Monaco is a real-life fairytale, a sweeping romance, a portrait of the cinematic legend of Princess Grace and a realization that love is much more than a passion, but an obligation.’ [Read more…]

Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche & Tim Roth Up For Brady Corbet’s Childhood of a Leader

December 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

robert-pattinson-diorBrady Corbet is best known for appearing in the likes of Mysterious Skin, Melancholia, Funny Games and Martha Marcy May Marlene. For a 25-year-old he’s had a lot of indie movie experience and he’s going to be putting that into practice as he’s now turning feature director with The Childhood of a Leader.

He’s lined up a great cast for the movie, as Variety reports that Juliette Binoche and Tim Roth will topline the film, with Robert Pattinson also set to star.

Corbet also co-wrote the script with Mona Fastvold. Unfortunately though there’s not much info on the plot, other than that it ‘focuses on the childhood of a post-World War I leader’. The movie is tentatively set to shoot next May in Europe.

Grace Of Monaco Teaser – Nicole Kidman does her best Grace Kelly impression

September 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

The Principality Of Monaco is already a bit techy about Grace Of Monaco, saying they don’t think it’s a proper true representation of a short part of Grace Kelly’s life, after she became wife to the leader of the small nation. But then, ever since Kelly retired from movies when she married, the royal family has been incredibly protective of her and her memory.

Now the first teaser trailer is here.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The story of former Hollywood star Grace Kelly’s crisis of marriage and identity, during a political dispute between Monaco’s Prince Rainier III and France’s Charles De Gaulle, and a looming French invasion of Monaco in the early 1960s.’

The supposed invasion was when French President Charles de Gaulle handed Grace’s husband Crown Prince Rainier (Tim Roth) a six-month deadline to reform Monaco’s financial laws and status as an extreme tax haven. Monaco has said the film overstates the threat of an actual invasion, as well as Kelly’s involvement in it, but then, this is Hollywood – where Grace made her name – so what did they expect?

Frank Langella, Parker Posey, Milo Ventimiglia, and Paz Vega also star. It’s due in UK cinemas at the end of November. [Read more…]

Tim Roth & Gemma Arterton Find The Keys To The Street, From A Christopher Nolan Script

September 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tim-RothFor the last decade or so Christopher Nolan has gone from unknown to one of the most powerful directors on the planet, but it should always be remembered that he’s had a hand in the script for all his movies (often working alongside his brother, Jonah).

Now he’s written something for someone else to helm, alongside co-writer Michael Stokes. The Keys To The Street is based on a Ruth Rendell novel, with Variety reporting that Gemma Arterton and Tim Roth are set to star.

The Amazon plot description of the novel says, ‘For the snobbish, upper-crust that live around London’s Regent’s Park, the homeless are an eye-sore and a nuisance. Only Mary Jargo (Arterton), a meek, sensitive young woman who has recently moved into the neighborhood to house-sit shows compassion. She often shares food and conversation with the unfortunates, particularly Effie, Dill, Roman, and Pharaoh. When someone starts murdering members of Regent’s homeless community and lancing them on the spiked fencing that encloses the park, only Mary seems to notice or care. Through her quest to discover the murderer, she embarks on a journey to overcome what she perceives to be her own insecurities and passivity.’

Roth will play Mary’s psychotic ex-boyfriend, with Max Irons also on-board as a man that Mary has an affair with

Knowing Nolan, he’ll have made the material his own, even if he’s handed the helming reigns to Czech director Julius Sevcik, who plans to shoot the movie early next year.

Broken (Blu-ray)

July 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Tim Roth, Eloise Laurence, Cillian Murphy, Rory Kinnear, Zana Marjanovic
Director: Rufus Norris
Running Time: 91 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: July 8th 2013

Broken won Best Film at the British Independent Film Awards and got much praise on its cinema release. However I couldn’t help feeling it’s one of those movies where grittiness and being a bit of a downer is taken for it being ‘real’ and worthy. It’s certainly dramatic and very, very well-acted, but it’s still pretty contrived and looked at objectively, the events are fairly soap opera-ish. [Read more…]
