Jack The Giant Slayer Banner Posters Arrive – Do you prefer the giants or humans?

January 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jack-Giant-Sliayer-Banner-Giants Jack-Giant-Sliayer-Banner-humans
It’s only a couple of months until Bryan Singer’s Jack The Giant Slayer hits cinemas on March 22nd, and so Warner had decided to try and keep us interested by releasing two banners posters – one featuring the giants and the other the humans. We have to say Nicholas Hoult, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci and Eleanor Tomlinson all look rather dashing, while the giants won’t be winning any beauty awards.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An ancient war is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack (Nicholas Hoult), into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom and its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend… and gets the chance to become a legend himself.’

Take a look at the banners above and below.

New Upstream Color Trailer – Take a new look at Shane Carruth’s mysterious new film

January 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Shane Carruth made a big splash in indie circles with 2004’s Primer, but it’s only now that we’re getting his second movie, and a new trailer has been released to give us a look at the film. Carruth has been keeping the plot of the movie is a bit mysterious, and this new trailer raises as many questions as it answers.

We do know a little about the movie as the short synopsis says: ‘A young woman (Amy Seimetz) is abducted and seemingly brainwashed via an organic material harvested from a specific flower. She later meets a man (Carruth) and after the two fall for each other, they come to realize he may also have been subjected to the same process.’

The film will premiere at Sundance after which the director plans to eschew the traditional distribution route, releasing it himself and taking it around the country, before it hits screens in LA in April and then heads to VOD soon after. There’s no news yet on when we might get to see it in the UK.

Emma Stone In Talks For Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak

January 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

emma-stoneIt seems Guillermo Del Toro is keen to ensure there isn’t another five year gap between directing projects as there has been between Hellboy II and Pacific Rim, as while the latter of those movie doesn’t reach cinemas until July, he’s already casting for his recently announced movie, Crimson Peak.

Variety reports that Emma Stone is in negotiations to star and that the script, which was originally penned by del Toro and Matthew Robins, is undergoing a rewrite by the director and British writer Lucinda Coxon. When it was first announced, Del Toro described the movie as “A very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story. It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules.” He has also compared it to Robert Wise’s The Haunting.

Del Toro is getting Stone lined up early, as currently the film isn’t due to shoot February 2014.

MGM Hopes For Hot Tub Time Machine Sequel

January 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hot-tub-time-machine-posterNormally Hollywood likes to get sequels up and going as soon as possible, but it’s taken MGM a while to decide they want another trip into the world of Hot Tub Time Machine. However THR reports that the studio is now making deals to try and make a follow-up a reality.

At the moment John Cusack isn’t involved (although that could change), but Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke have all been in talks with the studio. Indeed Corddry may also take on scripting duties, alongside Steve Pink, the director of the last film (who is also in talks to return).

At the moment no deals have been signed, and THR suggests things could fall apart as it’s fairly early in the process, although if it all comes together MGM is likely to put the movie on the fast-track. There’s no news on the plot for the sequel and whether it would see the guys going back to the 80s again, or if this one would be set in a different era.

Dane Dehaan Goes Metallica Through the Never

January 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dane-dehaan2Picturehouse was founded in 2005 in the US as a full-service independent film marketing and distribution company. However after having less success than hoped it pretty much shut down, but now it’s reopening its doors and has announced that his first new release will be Metallica Through the Never, a feature film starring members of the iconic rock band and Dane DeHaan (Chronicle, The Amazing Spider-Man 2).

DeHaan plays a young band crew member who is sent out on an urgent mission while the band is playing a rousing live set in front of a sold-out crowd and unexpectedly finds his world turned completely upside down. The film, written and directed by Nimród Antal (Kontroll, Predators), is due in US theaters August 9.

One of the bestselling rock acts of all time, Metallica has sold over 105 million albums worldwide. Metallica drummer and founding member Lars Ulrich also had this to say, “Metallica’s way of doing things is to jump into unexplored creative endeavors with no safety net whatsoever. Putting this movie together for the last couple of years has been a pretty wild ride, and we’ve definitely done our share of flying without a net! Bringing Bob and Jeanne and the new Picturehouse team in at this point provides us with a much needed level of security for the distribution of the film. Their spirit of independence and desire to work outside the box is something we can relate to in every way, and this makes them both a welcome addition and a natural fit in the Metallica family.”

The plan is to release Picturehouse films to Netflix exclusively in the United States shortly after their theatrical release. Picturehouse has also secured a first look relationship with Warner Bros. Pictures International for films to which it has international distribution rights, so it may be through them we get to see the movie in the UK.

Timur Bekmambetov Teams With Michael Bay For Heatseekers

January 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

timur-bekmambetovDirector Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter wasn’t quite the money-spinner some had hoped, but it wasn’t dreadful, and now he’s looking to the future, as THR reports that the Russian helmer has signed on to make Heatseekers for Paramount Pictures and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes.

News of the movie first surfaced back in April 2010, when Platinum Dunes acquired the spec screenplay by George Mahaffey. F. Scott Frazier has now signed on to rewrite the script. The plot is about an ex-military pilot who takes to the skies to do battle with a group of aerial renegades. Previous reports suggest the hero has to infiltrate the group and bring them down from inside – so sort of The Fast And The Furious or Point Break, but with airplanes.

Michael Bay will produce with his Platinum Dunes partners Andrew Form and Bradley Fuller. Chris Morgan, best known as the screenwriter behind Wanted and Fast Five, is also producing. It isn’t known when the movie might shoot.

New Carrie Poster Online – Meet Julianne Moore’s Margaret White

January 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

carrie-teaser-poster2
It’s still a few months until the remake of Carrie hits cinemas in November, due to the fact it’s been put back from its originally planned Spring release. However to keep us interested, Sony has released a new poster via Latino Review, which shows us Julianne Moore’s Margaret White.

If you know Stephen King’s novel or the 1976 film version, you’ll know that Margaret isn’t not exactly the nicest of people. She is Carrie’s (Chloe Moretz) mother and a bit of a religious zealot monster who believes her daughter’s newfound powers are evil and just about everything she does goes against God.

Carrie’s homelife is as bad as school, where the quiet young girl is laughed at and bullied – something that comes to a head when the popular people play a prank on her at the prom. Judy Greer, Gabriella Wilde, Portia Doubleday, Alex Russell and Michelle Nolden also star.

Bradley Cooper Goes For A WWI Spy Thriller Dark Invasion

January 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bradley-cooperFor a while it seemed as if Bradley Cooper was going to squander the star power he’d got from The Hangover movies, but now he’s an Oscar nominee thanks to Silver Linings Playbook and has another Hangover movie coming in a few months time.

He’s also just signed up for a new movie which should see him in a more dramatic mode than we’re used to from the actor. Deadline reports that he’s signed up for an adaptation of the Howard Blum book Dark Invasion, which Warner Bros has recently signed up to produce.

The spy thriller is based on a true story. It’s set during World War I, although in 1915 when war was raging in Europe but the US was officially neutral. It was a situation Germany was keen should continue, so they sent spies to the US to wage a covert war that they hoped will stop America siding with the Allies. ‘The Kaiser’s spies bomb factories, sabotage ships, shoot JP Morgan Jr (a financier of the Allies), bomb the U.S. Capitol Building, and set up an anthrax lab six miles from the White House’.

Cooper will play an NYPD Captain, Tom Tunney, who has to put together a team to foil the spies’ plans and bring them to justice. The book will be published in September of this year.

Warner Taking Homer’s Odyssey Into Space

January 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

odyssey-homer-book-coverThose who grew up in the 1980s may remember a pretty great cartoon called Ulysses 31, which took Homer’s classic tale The Odyssey into space. Sadly we’re not getting a big budget version of that toon, but it seems Warner Bros. is keen on a similar idea, as Deadline reports they’ve put a sci-fi take on the ancient story into development.

James DiLapo has been hired to write the screenplay. He’s a relative newcomer – he only graduated from NYU last year – but has one unproduced script, Soviet drama Devils At Play, to his name, which won a couple of awards and landed on the Black List.

Homer’s original book is about the Greek hero Odysseus, who faces all sorts of perils while trying to make his way back home after the Battle of Troy. The article doesn’t mention any specifics about how the story will be adapted, but it does suggest the studio sees franchise potential in the idea.
