Samuel L. Jackson Joins Japanese Anime Adaptation Kite

December 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

samuel-l-jacksonAt the age of 63, Samuel L. Jackson is as busy as ever, and now he’s signed up for a new film, David R. Ellis’ live action adaptation of the Japanese anime Kite, according to Movies.com.

The original anime is a post-apocalyptic thriller that focuses on a young orphaned girl who embarks on a quest to seek revenge on her parents’ killer. She is initially ‘helped’ by the two corrupt cops on the case of the double homicide, Akai and Kanie, who take her in as guardians and end up turning her into an assassin. However soon she meets another assassin, and strikes out with his aid to find the murderers. It isn’t known which role Jackson is taking.

The actor commented, “After RoboCop, I’m going to do this live-action version of Kite, the Japanese anime. I’ll be doing a live-action version of that in Johannesburg.”

It’s not clear when the movie might shoot. This isn’t the first time Ellis and Jackson have worked together, as they made Snakes On A Plane back in 2006.

New Oz The Great And Powerful Poster Goes Witchy

December 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

OZ-great-powerful-Teaser-poster4
Oz The Great And Powerful reaches cinemas on March 8th, and Disney is keen that we don’t forget that, releasing a new poster for the movie, featuring Rachel Weisz as a green-skinned evil witch called Evanora. Previous pics have shown that she’s got a more normal hue for at least parts of the film, so presumably the movie will show us how she goes green.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot–fame and fortune are his for the taking–that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity–and even a bit of wizardry–Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.’

But when he discovers that only a real Smurf can give him what he wants — and only a secret spell that Smurfette knows can turn the Naughties into real Smurfs — Gargamel kidnaps Smurfette and brings her to Paris, where he has been winning the adoration of millions as the world’s greatest sorcerer. It’s up to Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity to return to our world, reunite with their human friends Patrick and Grace Winslow, and rescue her! Drift Trailer – Sam Worthington & Xavier Samuel go surfing

December 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sam Worthington has gone back to Australia and gotten himself a wig (at least we hope it’s a wig) for the surf themes drama Drift. Myles Pollard and Xavier Samuel take the lead roles, with Worthington supporting.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Australia, 1970s. The Kelly brothers, Andy and Jimmy (Pollard and Samuel), have one great passion: riding big waves. As kids, their mother escaped from Sydney to Margaret River, a sleepy coastal town with some of the world’s most challenging and dangerous waves. For the next 12 years, the boys perfected their surfing skills, always searching for the perfect ride. Free-spirited Jimmy is a gifted surfer and innovator but he starts to slip toward a life of crime to help the family out of debt. Andy makes a big decision. Quitting a stable job, he bets on Jimmy’s surf inventions and his own business skills and launches a backyard surf gear business. They rethink board design, craft homemade wetsuits and sell their merchandise out of their van.

‘Encouraged by their new friends, travelling bohemian surf photographer and filmmaker JB (Sam Worthington) and his gorgeous Hawaiian surfer companion, Lani, who stirs the two brothers’ hearts, they start to seek ways to expand. After they get mixed up with a local drug dealer, it looks like everything they built up, will be ruined… Set in breathtaking locations and inspired by the true story of Australia’s legendary surfwear moguls, the film chronicles the rise of surf brands and the expansion of the laidback surf attitude as a global lifestyle. A story of passion and corruption, friendship and loyalty, deadly addictions and fractured relationships, DRIFT tells a tale of courage and the will to survive against all odds.’

It hits Aussie cinemas in 2013, but no UK release date has been set yet.

Vin Diesel On For Kojak Adaptation, From Bond Writers Neal Purvis & Robert Wade

December 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

riddick-vin-diesel-shirtlessFor a while know Universal Pictures has been working on a big screen version of Kojak, and now it’s been confirmed they’ve cast The Fast and the Furious star Vin Diesel to play the title character, according to Deadline.

Bond writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have been hired to come up with the screenplay. The duo worked on The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day, Casino Royale, and Quantum of Solace, but announced last month that Skyfall is the last James Bond movie they plan to work on.

Kojak ran on TV from 1973 to 1978, with Telly Savalas as the famously bald, lollipop-sucking New York City Police Department Detective Lieutenant Theo Kojak. This version will “re-imagine and con temporize” the series in a modern-day setting.

Vin Diesel will also produce alongside Samantha Vincent, but it isn’t known when the movie might go into production.
