Lee Daniel’s The Paperboy debuted at Cannes, but it’s only now we’re getting a trailer, ahead of its US release in October (no UK date is yet set). The film is about a directionless young man (Zac Efron) who helps his reporter brother (Matthew McConaughey) investigate the possible wrongful conviction of a man on death row (John Cusack), and in the process, falls for the woman whom the convict has been romancing through prison correspondence. It should be out later this year. And as promised in the title of those post, Zac Efron dances in his undies (and therefore it perhaps shouldn’t be too surprising that Lee Daniels is gay).

Fanboys Helmer Kyle Newman Plans Star Wars-Themed Chewie
With Fanboys, director Kyle Newman explored people’s love of Star Wars, and now he’s planning to stay in the galaxy far far away, as he’s developing Chewie, a movie based on the life of Peter Mayhew, the actor who played the iconic Wookie sidekick in the original Star Wars films.
The story focuses on the actor’s struggle with juggling his career as a hospital worker and chasing his dream to become a Hollywood star. Kyle Newman acquired the actor’s life rights, to further develop the spec screenplay. However, finding an actor of play Mayhew, who’s famous over seven feet tall, may be tough, and Newman may also have to do a deal with Lucasfilm if he wants to use the Chewbacca costume.
The script was written by Evan Susser and Van Robichaux, and made the 2011 Black List. Jess Rosenthal and D.J. Gugenheim are producing. (Source: THR)
X-Men: First Class Sequel Confirmed As Days Of Future Past
A couple of weeks ago it was rumoured that Fox planned to base the sequel to X-Men: First Class on the classic Uncanny X-Men story Days of Future Past. Now that’s been confirmed by producer Bryan Singer in an interview with IGN, where he told them, “I can say it’s being written right now, and we’ll start shooting in a couple of months. It’s going to be very ambitious. It’s called Days of Future Past, and it deals with aspects of not only that comic, but some very new things.”
The Days of Future Past storyline from the Marvel comic books deals with the idea of an alternate future, where mutants are hunted down by Sentinels, after the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killed an important Senator. When asked if the sequel may cross over into past X-Men movies, the producer revealed they plan on expanding this universe, “I think there’s a strong desire to broaden out the universe. The X-Men universe, on its own, is just as big as the Marvel universe. I think it’s time to reach out and explore it, and perhaps even bring some connectivity between the films. You may see some of that.”
Shooting on the sequel will begin production in January, after Jennifer Lawrence wraps on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Knightley, Jones & Lilly Up For Female Lead In Jack Ryan Reboot
After years of rewriting, jiggling around, scheduling issues and various other problems, it seems Paramount’s planned reboot of the Jack Ryan franchise, starring Chris Pine, is finally moving forward. A shortlist has now been drawn up for the female lead in the movie – Jack’s future wife – so who could be playing it?
Well, while shortlists don’t always lead to the person who’ll finally play the role, at the moment Deadline says that Paramount and director Kenneth Branagh are looking at Keira Knightley, Felicity Jones and Evangeline Lilly for the role. Knightley is considered to be the frontrunner, though the other two are still very much in the mix. Total Recall co-stars Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel were both in the running for the part as well at one point, but that seems to no longer be the case.
Anne Archer played Jack’s wife in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, but the planned film returns Jack to his early day, before he was married, with Ryan as an ex-Marine who takes a job in Moscow and works to take down his boss(probably played by Branagh), who turns out to be a terrorist working to destroy the United States economy. It still isn’t clear when the movie might shoot, although it’s hoped it’ll go into production before the end of the year.
Paz Vega Joins Nicole Kidman In Grace Of Monaco
Spanish actress Paz Vega has signed up for Olivier Dahan’s planned Grace Kelly biographical drama Grace of Monaco, according to Variety. The actress joins Nicole Kidman, who is already attached to play the iconic Kelly.
The film concentrates on the time when Monaco was in a conflict with France and Grace Kelly, who by then had given up acting and was the small country’s princess, worked to prevent a coup. Vega is set to be opera singer Maria Callas, who was having an affair with wealthy Aristotle Onassis at the time.
Olivier Dahan is directing from a script provided by Arash Amel. It isn’t clear when it might shoot.
Russell Brand Boards Romantic Comedy Cupid
Russell Brand needs to make up his mind. Just last week he said he was putting movies on the backburner to concentrate on stand-up, and this week he’s signed up for two film. Earlier this week he attached himself to Pierre Pierre for director Larry Charles, and now Variety reports he’s up for a film called Cupid.
As the title suggests, the film is about the Roman god of love, as we works to create “an ideal romance.” There’s not many more details than that, but hopefully this doesn’t mean Brand will spend the whole movie in a nappy.
Joe Nussbaum, who last directed Disney’s Prom, is set to helm the film, and it’s likely he’ll write the script too. There’s no news on exactly when it might shoot.
Christopher Eccleston May Go Villainous For Thor: The Dark World
Christopher Eccleston is one of those actors who always seems like they could have had a bigger share of fame, but for whatever reason decided to have an interesting and varied career rather than going all-out for the a-list. However now he’s up for a major movie role, as THR reports he’s up for a villainous part in Thor: The Dark World, which would mark his first movie since 2009’s Amelia.
Mads Mikkelsen was all set to play the part, however he had to drop out due to his commitments to the new Hannibal Lecter television show he’s set to star in. Little is known about the plot of the film, but the title could suggest that a good deal of the action could be set in the world of Svartalfheim and there are rumours the central villain would be Malekith The Accursed, the leader of the Dark Elves (which is who Eccleston would be playing if he signs on).
Shooting will begin this autumn, ahead of release on November 8th, 2013
Drew Barrymore Going Apocalyptic With The End
Drew Barrymore earned a fair amount of acclaim for her directorial debut, the 2009 roller derby dramedy Whip It, but while she’s flirted with other projects, she hasn’t actually directed a movie since then. Now she’s attached to a new one, with THR reporting Drew will helm The End.
The movie follows multiple story lines as people reconcile their fate on their last day on Earth. While that sounds incredibly depressing, ‘End is meant to be uplifting and humanistic rather than a downer, a meditation not on death but on life.’
The storylines include a sixtysomething radio personality in London who’s intent on broadcasting until the end, a father who tries to make it through the chaos of Tokyo to reach his wife and baby, and a teenage couple in the American Midwest being pulled in different directions by their families.
Aron Eli Coleite wrote the script, which Warner Bros. is hoping to get made for a modest price.
Ridley Scott Planning Prometheus Sequel For 2014 Or 2015
20th Century Fox has confirmed they are in development on a sequel to Prometheus, according to THR, with director Ridley Scott and stars Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace set to return with more adventures that lead towards the events we saw in the first Alien movie.
Here’s what Fox production president Emma Watts had to say about the follow-up, “Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can’t rush it.”
As they’re not rushing, Fox is looking at releasing the sequel in either 2014 or 2015, perhasp filling the gap left by the ever retreating release date of Avatar 2 & 3. The studio is currently in talks with new writers to draft the sequel as Damon Lindelof, who wrote the original, may not be available to work on the follow-up, due to his involvement with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and several other projects.
Paranormal Activity 4 Trailer – All the activity has led to this, apparently
