Tommy Lee Jones Takes On Passion Project The Homesman

May 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tommy Lee Jones has made a few movies as a director, including The Three Burials Of Melquiades and The Sunset Limited, and now he’s lining up his next directorial vehicle with The Homesman, which he will also star in, write, and produce.

This period drama, which is described as a bit of a passion project for Tommy, centres on a claim-jumper (Tommy Lee Jones) and a pioneer woman in the 19th Century, who both escort three insane women on a bizarre journey from Nebraska to Iowa, where they must brave the harsh elements along the way.

The producers are in talks with Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp to co-produce, finance, and distribute the drama. Tommy Lee Jones will next be seen in the long-awaited sequel Men in Black III. It isn’t known when shooting will start on The Homesman. (Source: Variety)

Jonah Hill In Talks For Scorsese’s Wolf Of Wall Street

May 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of weeks ago Martin Scorsese announced that the long-gestating Wolf Of Wall Street would be his next movie, and now she’s busy filling out the cast ahead on a summer shoot. Variety reports that Jonah Hill has entered into negotiations to join the movie, which Leo DiCaprio is already set to star in.

The drama is based on the autobiography of Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio), who made millions as a fraudulent stock broker operating out of Long Island. He spent 20 months in prison for his role in a massive securities fraud that involved widespread Wall Street corruption.

Hill will play Danny Porush, Belfort’s best friend who convinced him to quit his menial job as a furniture salesman and become a stock broker. The true story also served as the inspiration for the 2000 financial drama Boiler Room.

Martin Scorsese is directing from an adapted screenplay by Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter. Production is scheduled to begin this August in New York City.

Sofia Vergara To Play Leather-Clad Mistress In Machete Kills

May 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sofía Vergara has found a lot of fans for both her beauty and comedy acting thanks to Modern Family, but now she’s going in a slightly less funny direction, as Variety reports she’s in negotiations to join the action sequel Machete Kills for director Robert Rodriguez.

The actress will portray Madame Desdemona, a leather-clad mistress whose harlots have information for Machete (Danny Trejo). She joins a growing cast which also includes Mel Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Amber Heard, and Demián Bichir.

Robert Rodriguez is directing from his own original screenplay. Production is scheduled to begin very soon in Austin, Texas.

iLL Manors Trailer – Ben ‘Plan B’ Drew’s directorial debut

May 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

At the age of only 28, Ben ‘Plan B’ Drew is busy being quite the renaissance man. He’s taken the music world by storm, proved a capable actor in the likes of Adulthood and Harry Brown, and now he’s written and directed iLL Manors. The movie is out June 6th, and now the full trailer is available. Here’s the synopsis: ‘A unique crime thriller set on the unforgiving streets of London, iLL MANORS follows six disparate lives, all struggling to survive the circles of violence that engulf them. There is ex-dealer Kirby, who has just been released from prison, thug Ed who will stop at nothing to find his missing phone, troubled Michelle who is just looking for her next hit, young Jake who finds himself drawn to the local gang, Chris, who seeks revenge, Katya, who is desperately trying to escape this foreign land, and Aaron, our main protagonist who is just trying to do the right thing. Narratively linked through original music from Plan B, the film is a visually stunning and emotionally impactful experience, laced with street-wise humour. Ground-breaking in its approach, iLL MANORS proves to be one of the must-see films of 2012.’

End Of Watch Trailer

May 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jake Gyllenhaal is certainly trying out a new look in End Of Watch, with his hair completely shaved off as he goes cop and heads out onto the mean streets. The film stars Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena as two LAPD cops who take pride in their work and friendship, but one day see their lives come under even more threat than usual. The trailer suggests the movie is going to try and put you in thick of the action, almost like it’s a documentary. The film is out in September.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Featurette – Origins Of A Superhero

May 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun, and now a new featurette has emerged, which treats the US President’s story as if in real-life he really was battling bloodsuckers and was essentially ‘the Batman of the 19th Century’. There’s also plenty of great footage from the film, which arrives in cinemas on August 2nd. The film reimagines Lincoln as a man driven by an insatiable hatred of the vampires who killed his mother and whose rise to the top on the US was all about battling the supernatural.

The Expendables 2 Trailer

May 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If you thought the action crew in The Expendables was good, The Expendables 2 plans to blow it out of the water, and the new trailer is here to prove it. Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren),Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) are back – alongside new members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) – are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time – six tons of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that’s nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother. The film’s out August 17th.

Kellan Lutz To Be Motion-Capture Tarzan

May 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although there’s been a lot of interest in the supporting actors from Twilight, the only one of them to have real success outside the franchise is Anna Kendrick, who was Oscar-nominated for Up In The Air. However the hunk of muscle that is Kellan Lutz certainly looks like an action star, and now he’s going performance-capture, playing Tarzan in a new CG take on the classic tale, according to Deadline.

Lutz will play the man brought up by chimps in the jungle, with the motion-capture technology allowing him to swing through the trees like never before. Resident Evil: Afterlife actress Spencer Locke is in talks to play Jane in the film.

Reinhard Klooss (Animals United) will direct, with Constantin Films backing the movie.

Robert Pattinson Takes On The Rover Alongside Guy Pearce

May 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Robert Pattinson is gonna go chasing cars with Guy Pearce, or at least they will if they both finalise deals to star in The Rover, which the duo are currently in talks for, according to Deadline.

The film apparently ‘chronicles a man who relentlessly pursues a gang who stole his car through the wild and rough Australian outback of the near future’. It sounds a bit like Pattinson is a Mad Max fan and wants to make his own version.

It’s interesting that this is the second action/thriller project from Pattinson we’ve heard about in the past two days, as yesterday news came through that he was planning to play the interrogator who led the hunt for Saddam Hussein. It suggests an attempt to shift the perception of R-Patz away from romance to the potentially more lucrative action arena. We’ll have to see whether it works.

Timur Bekmambetov Takes On The Current War

May 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

You wouldn’t think the difficulties deciding whether we use AC or DC eletrical current would be worth making a movie about, but in American it was actually an incredibly bitter war between Westinghouse and Edison, with both realising the potential dividends of having their system adopted throughout the US were so huge they’d do anything to ensure they won.

Now Variety reports that Timur Bekmambetov has just attached himself to direct The Current War, which is about the fight between the companies, based on Michael Mitnick‘s spec script. It really was a bitter battle, full of public fighting and increasingly extreme stunts. For example Edison once used Westinghouse’s current to execute a rogue elephant in the hope he could prove how dangerous it was (he was admittedly safer), and even tried to get people to refer to being electrocuted as being ‘Westinghoused’.

There is no cast attached yet, though Sacha Baron Cohen was reportedly interested in playing Edison at one point. It isn’t clear whe the movie might shoot.
