Guy Ritchie to Direct Disney’s Live-Action Aladdin Movie

October 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

guy-ritchieDisney is soon going to run out of classic animated movies to turn live action, as after the likes of Maleficent, Cinderella and The Jungle Book, we’ve got films such as Beauty & The Beast, Mulan and Aladdin coming. The latter now has a director, with Guy Ritchie stepping into the breach.

The Sherlock Holmes and Man From U.N.C.L.E. helmer is in talks to help develop the movie and direct, with John August (Big FIsh) writing the script. It’s not known how closely it will stick to the 1992 animated version, about a street urchin in who gets hold of a magic lamp with a genie inside that grants him three wishes. It’ll be interesting to see if they keep the genie as a shapeshifting, pop culture reference spewing comic force, or whether they turn him into something a little more sinister.

As well as the films mentioned above, Disney is also developing Jungle Book and Maleficent sequels, as well as live-action takes on The Lion King and The Little Mermaid. So they’ve certainly got a very full slate.

The Great Wall Trailer – Matt Damon heads into medieval Chinese action

October 9, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

great-wall-slideWith China now the second biggest market for movies in the world and Chinese companies investing heavily in film, Hollywood is on the lookout for ways to tap in the Middle Kingdom’s money. There’s also Legendary Pictures – makers of Godzilla and The Dark Knight Movies – which was bought by Chinese investors. That’s helped result in The Great Wall, which star Matt Damon but takes us into Chinese history and one of its most iconic structures.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Starring global superstar Matt Damon and directed by one of the most breathtaking visual stylists of our time, Zhang Yimou (Hero, House of Flying Daggers), Legendary’s The Great Wall tells the story of an elite force making a valiant stand for humanity on the world’s most iconic structure. The first English-language production for Yimou is the largest film ever shot entirely in China. The Great Wall also stars Jing Tian, Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe and Andy Lau.’

While he all know The Great Wall as looking pretty in pictures, it’s rather cool to see it being used for its original intention, as a massive defensive structure. However, we’re hoping it doesn’t give Donald Trump any more ideas.

The film will be out early next year. Take a look at the teaser trailer below. [Read more…]

Power Rangers Teaser Trailer – The mighty morphers return with a bigger budget

October 9, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

power-rangers-costumes-slideShiny lycra, men in monster suits, stunningly cheap looking special effects – that’s what Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is all about, right? Well, not any more, as for its movie reboot it’s been given a bigger budget and some far better production values.

While we’ve had a few pictures, that’s now been followed by the first official teaser trailer. Take a look at it below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.’ [Read more…]

John Wick: Chapter 2 Teaser Trailer – Keanu Reeves is back in action

October 9, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

john-wick-chapter-2John Wick got a lot of praise, not necessarily for its plot, but for its almost comic book style and for the quality of its action. Indeed, it reminded many of why pure action has always been so popular. Now it’s coming back for a sequel.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In this next chapter following the 2014 hit, legendary hitman John Wick [Keanu Reeves] is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.’

Laurence Fishburne, Ruby Rose, John Leguizamo and Ian McShane also star, with Chad Stahelski directing. Take a look at the teaser trailer below. [Read more…]

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter Trailer – Milla Jovovich is back as Alice one last time

October 9, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

resident-evil-final-chapter-poster-slideBelieve it or not, Resident Evil is the most-successful videogame-to-movie franchise ever. Now it’s returning once more with a fifth film featuring Milla Jovovich as Alice – although as the title suggests, this one is planned as the last instalment (until they inevitably decide to reboot it).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, Alice (Milla Jovovich) is the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead. Now, she must return to where the nightmare began – The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.’

The film will be out next February. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Gold Trailer – Matthew McConaughey searches for riches in the Indonesian jungle

October 9, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gold-slideMatthew McConaughey has certainly come a long way from being the king of awful rom-coms. Indeed, he hasn’t made one for year. Next up he’s got Gold, which those behind it must feel could be an awards contender as it’s being given an Oscar friendly Christmas release in the US.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘GOLD is the epic tale of one man’s pursuit of the American dream, to discover gold. Starring Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey as Kenny Wells, a prospector desperate for a lucky break, he teams up with a similarly eager geologist and sets off on an amazing journey to find gold in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia. Getting the gold was hard, but keeping it would be even harder, sparking an adventure through the most powerful boardrooms of Wall Street. The film is inspired by a true story.’

Jackie Trailer – Natalie Portman plays Jackie Kennedy following her husband’s assassination

October 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jackie-natalie-portman-slideFollowing its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, many suggested that Natalie Portman could be looking at at least a Oscar nomination for playing the title in Jackie. Fox Searchlight picked up the movie after its festival debut, and has now released the first teaser trailer.

The movie reunites Natalie with Black Swan’s Darren Aronosfky, but this time he’s only a producer, with Pablo Lorrain directing from a script by Noah Oppenheim. Rather than a full scale biopic, the movie will concetrate on Jackie in the days after JFK’s assassination, when rather than solely being able to deal with her own grief (and the fact her husband had been shot in the head right next to her), she was expected to lead the nation in mourning.

The movie will be hitting cinemas in the US in December, suggesting they’re certainly hoping for some award consideration. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Patriots Day Trailer – Mark Wahlberg & Peter Berg take on the Boston Marathon Bombing

October 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

patriots-day-slideMark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg have only just been in cinemas with a film based around modern day disaster, with Deepwater Horizon. However, they’ll soon be back with another, Patriots Day, which has just dropped its first trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An account of the Boston Marathon bombing, PATRIOTS DAY is the powerful story of a community’s courage in the face of terror.

‘In the aftermath of an unspeakable attack, Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again. Weaving together the stories of Special Agent Richard DesLauriers (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman), Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese (J.K. Simmons) and nurse Carol Saunders (Michelle Monaghan) this visceral and unflinching chronicle captures the suspense of one of the most sophisticated manhunts in law enforcement history and celebrates the strength of the people of Boston.

The film will be getting an Oscar qualifying release in the US in December, before rolling out wider and internationally in January. [Read more…]

Get Out Trailer – Jordan Peele directs a Blumhouse horror movie

October 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

get-out-slideJordan Peele is known for his comedy, particularly as one half of the breakout comedy partnership Key & Peele. Normally when an actor directs their first film, they stick with a genre they’re known for, but instead Peele has gone into the world of horror.

He’s helmed Get Out, which he’s also directed, and which has been described as a scary movie with a social point to make.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In Universal Pictures’ Get Out, a speculative thriller from Blumhouse (producers of The Visit, Insidious series and The Gift) and the mind of Jordan Peele, when a young African-American man visits his white girlfriend’s family estate, he becomes ensnared in a more sinister real reason for the invitation.

Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya, Sicario) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams, Girls), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy (Catherine Keener, Captain Phillips) and Dean (Bradley Whitford, The Cabin in the Woods).

‘At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined.

‘Equal parts gripping thriller and provocative commentary, Get Out is written and directed by Peele (Key and Peele) and produced by Blumhouse’s Jason Blum, as well as Sean McKittrick (Donnie Darko, The Box), Peele and Edward H. Hamm Jr. (The Box, Bad Words). The film also stars Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men series), Milton “Lil Rel” Howery (The Carmichael Show), Betty Gabriel (The Purge: Election Year), Marcus Henderson (Pete’s Dragon) and Keith Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton).’

The film should hit cinemas early next year. [Read more…]

The Third Wolverine Will Be Called Logan, As It Gets A Poster

October 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

logan-posterEver since it was first announced, the next Wolverine movie has lacked a title. That omission began to seem increasingly glaring at its March 2017 release date got closer and closer.

However, now the first poster has arrived, which lets us know the film will be called Logan.

There’s still no official synopsis, but the poster gives us a hint, with the adamantium clawed one holding a child’s hand. It is his child? Is it a random youngster he has to protect? Or is it, as some have suggested, the female Wolverine clone that’s been rumoured to feature in the movie? It’s been suggested we’ll get a teaser trailer soon, which will hopefully let us know a little more.

Until then, enjoy the poster.
