TV’s Looking Has Been Cancelled, But The Boys Will Get A Wrap-Up Special

March 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

looking-s1-slideIt’s been a short and interesting run, bitHBO has announced that after two seasons, they won’t be renewing their gay-themed show Looking for a third outing. If you’re panicking that this means you’ll never find out what happens next for Patrick (Jonathan Groff), Agustin (Frankie J. Alvarez), Dom (Murray Bartlett), Kevin (Russell Tovye) and co., there is some small solace, as the TV network has promised that things will get wrapped up with a feature-length special.

The news isn’t too unexpected, as after decent ratings for Looking very first episode, the viewer numbers dropped and it’s never really recovered. It’s a shame, as its slightly wonky first few episodes seem to have put a lot of people off, meaning they’ve missed out on the fact that it’s improved significantly and its second season showed promise that it would become a truly excellent series – indeed its sophomore run got a decent amount of praise from critics.

To show how low things had dropped, just 298,000 US viewers tuned in for the recent season two finale, which is just over half the number who watched the final episode of Season 1.

At least we’re not being left completely high and dry and there will be a TV movie that will hopefully bring closure to the stories the the gay San Franciscans. That special is expected to air later this year.

First Look At Jeremy Irvine In Roland Emmerich’s Gay-Themed Stonewall Movie

March 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

stonewall-jeremy-irvineIt’s been a while since Roland Emmerich shot Stonewall, his upcoming movie about the riots in New York which helped kick off the modern gay rights movement. Now the film is in the can and the first image has been released, which shows Jeremy Irvine caught up in the chaos.

Alongside the pic comes the news that Roadside Attractions has picked up the rights to the movie in the US, and will release the movie later this year.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Less than 50 years ago, in 1969, being gay was considered a mental illness.  Gay people could not be employed by the government.  It was illegal for gay people to congregate, and police brutality against gays went unchecked.

‘STONEWALL is a drama about a fictional young man caught up during the 1969 Stonewall Riots. Danny Winters (Jeremy Irvine) is forced to leave behind friends and loved ones when he is kicked out of his parent’s home and flees to New York. Alone in Greenwich Village, homeless and destitute, he befriends a group of street kids who soon introduce him to the local watering hole The Stonewall Inn; however, this shady, mafia-run club is far from a safe-haven.  As Danny and his friends experience discrimination, endure atrocities and are repeatedly harassed by the police, we see a rage begin to build.  This emotion runs through Danny and the entire community of young gays, lesbians and drag queens who populate the Stonewall Inn and erupts in a storm of anger.  With the toss of a single brick, a riot ensues and a crusade for equality is born.’

It’s certainly a change of pace for Emmerich who’s best known for disaster epics such as Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow and 2012, however the gay director was inspired to make the movie after working with homeless gay and lesbian youths.

Entourage Trailer – Adrian Grenier & the boys are going big screen

March 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

entourage-poster1Adrian Grenier, Kevin Connolly, Jerry Ferrara, Kevin Dillon and Jeremy Piven are all back for this summer’s Entourage movie, which will transfer the HBO series to the big screen (with many still wondering whether the show has a big enough following to make it worthwhile).

The film hits cinemas June 19th, but now we get the first trailer and poster for the movie.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“Entourage,” the much-anticipated big-screen version of the award-winning hit HBO series, reunites the show’s original cast, led by Kevin Connolly, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara and Jeremy Piven.

‘Movie star Vincent Chase (Grenier), together with his boys, Eric (Connolly), Turtle (Ferrara) and Johnny (Dillon), are back…and back in business with super agent-turned-studio head Ari Gold (Piven). Some of their ambitions have changed, but the bond between them remains strong as they navigate the capricious and often cutthroat world of Hollywood. Also starring are Billy Bob Thornton and Haley Joel Osment as father and son, Larsen and Travis McCredle.

‘Returning cast from the series also includes Perrey Reeves as Ari Gold’s wife; Emmanuelle Chriqui as Sloan; Rhys Coiro as Billy Walsh; Debi Mazar as Vince’s publicist, Shauna; Rex Lee as Lloyd; Constance Zimmer as Dana Gordon; and Nora Dunn as Dr. Marcus. Emily Ratajkowski appears as herself. Rounding out the cast are Alan Dale, who appeared in the series, rapper Scott Mescudi, and Rhonda Rousey.’ [Read more…]

Maggie Trailer – Arnold Schwarznegger has a zombie daughter

March 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

maggie-arnold-schwarzeneggerMaggie has been waiting in the wings for quite a while, as Arnie filmed it over a year ago, but now it’s getting ready for its release and a trailer have arrived.

It’s something a little different for Schwarzenegger as while it sounds like it could be a big action epic, it’s actually quieter and more introspective than you might expect.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘There’s a deadly zombie epidemic threatening humanity, but Wade (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a small-town farmer and family man, refuses to accept defeat even when his daughter Maggie (Abigail Breslin) becomes infected. As Maggie’s condition worsens and the authorities seek to eradicate those with the virus, Wade is pushed to the limits in an effort to protect her. Joely Richardson co-stars in this post-apocalyptic thriller.’

It’s out in the US on May 8th, but no UK date is currently set. [Read more…]

Slow West Trailer – Michael Fassbender goes Western

March 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Slow-West-slideIt seems Michael Fassbender was keen to make a Western, as he was attached to Jane Got A Gun, but X-Men scheduling issues forced him to drop out, but now he’s made Slow West (it’s the movie he was shooting when one paparazzi managed to take a sneaky pic of him having an outdoor piss). The trailer for the film has now arrived, which you can watch below.

The movie ‘follows a 16-year-old boy (Kodi Smit-McPhee) on a journey across 19th Century frontier America in search of the woman he loves, while accompanied by mysterious traveler Silas (Fassbender).’

The trailer suggest this is a film that will have plenty of style, something Sundance reviews also attested to, although it’s apparently also pretty gritty.

No UK date is currently set, but in the US it’ll arrive on DirecTV on April 16th, before hitting cinemas and VoD on May 15th. [Read more…]

Steven Spielberg Will Head Into The Virtual World Of Ready Player One

March 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

steven-spielbergSpielberg has talked about making big action/fantasy films for the past few films but has only actually helmed more serious fare such as Lincoln and the upcoming Bridge Of Spies, however he’s going much more populist with his next two movies. He’s set to shoot The BFG later this year and now Deadline reports he’s boarded the action sci-fi Ready Player One.

The movie will be based on Ernie Cline novel. Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade’s devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world’s digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator’s obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them. But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade’s going to survive, he’ll have to win—and confront the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.’

Ever since the novel was published there’s been excitement about the idea of a film version, but what people liked about that idea is also what many thought meant it would never happen – the world Wade enters is full of reference to real world old movies and video games. While you can talk about those things in a novel, it becomes much trickier to include in a film, as all sorts of people own the rights to the characters.

However if one man can wade through that quagmire it’s Spielberg. Indeed it would be possible to write a script purely filled with movies Steven has had a hand in – from Jurassic Park to Back To The Future – and it would feel like a pretty comprehensive trip through the pop culture of the past 35 years. In fact some have argued that it was nostalgia for the Spielbergian films of the 1980s that inspired many of the ideas in the novel.

It’s certainly an exciting idea, so let’s hope it comes to fruition.

Terminator Genisys Living Poster Proves Arnie Is Still A Cyborg

March 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

terminator-genisys-new-pic1-slideThere are a lot of people in Hollywood hoping that people are still interested in Arnie as a cyborg, as he’s returning to his most iconic role in this summer’s Terminator Genisys. To give us a little look at his return a ‘living poster’ has been release with Schwarzenegger showing he’s still metallic underneath.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and safeguard the future, an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline. Now, Sgt. Reese finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past, where he is faced with unlikely allies, including the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), dangerous new enemies, and an unexpected new mission: To reset the future…’

Idris Elba Is In Talks To Be Star Trek 3’s Main Villain

March 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

idris-elbaWe haven’t heard a huge amount about it for a while, but Paramount is still busily putting together Star Trek 3, and now it looks like it’s really moving forward as Idris Elba is in early talks to play the movie’s main villain, according to Variety.

Taking a lesson from JJ Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness there’s little info on what the role may be, although Variety does say ‘Early rumors suggest that Klingons would be the main villains in this movie, as they have not had a full presence in previous installments, but sources would not confirm if that was the case.’

The current plan is that the movie will start shooting in June with the likes of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Simon Pegg returning to for a third Starfleet outing. Justin Lin will director with a July 8th, 2016 release date set.

Jesse Eisenberg Goes Bald In First Look At Lex Luthor In Batman v Superman

March 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jesse-Eisenberg-Lex-LuthorLex Luthor is getting a bit younger than Kevin Spacey or Gene Hackman when Jesse Eisenberg takes over the role in next year’s Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice. However he’s still going to be bald and now we’ve got the proof as EW has debuted the first image of the actor as the infamous DC Comics villain.

Director Zack Snyder comments, “He’s not any of the Lexes that you’ve seen, that’s for sure. Other than him being a captain of industry and one person to the world and another person to himself. And bald, of course… Our Lex is disarming and he’s not fake. He says what he believes and he says what’s on his mind. If you can unravel the string and decipher what he means, it’s all there.”

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” is the highly anticipated action adventure from director Zack Snyder, starring Henry Cavill in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, and Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

‘“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” also stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane returning from “Man of Steel,” Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and Holly Hunter in a role newly created for the film.

‘“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is written by Chris Terrio, from a screenplay by David S. Goyer. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Wesley Coller, David S. Goyer and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.

‘Principal photography will take place on location at Michigan Motion Picture Studios and on location in and around Detroit, Michigan; Illinois; Africa; and the South Pacific.’

It’s due out May 2016.
