Mel Gibson May Be Blood Father In A New Action Thriller

March 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Mel-gibsonWhile he popped up in Machete Kills and will be seen in Expendables 3, Mel Gibson has understandably been out in the wilderness for the last few years, with few people wanting to get the risk of working with him following the controversy that has dogged him.

However now he’s potentially got a role, and who knows, perhaps it’ll be the start of a comeback (for right or wrong). Once more though it’s being produced outside the major studio system, as most of them are still nervous of Gibson.

He is in talks to star in the action-thriller Blood Father, according to Deadline, with Jean-Franç Richet (Assault on Precinct 13) set to direct. The story is being compared to Taken (but then, just about every new action thriller is), following an ex-con (Mel Gibson) who tries to protect his estranged and troubled 16-year-old daughter, who’s under threat from drug dealers who want to kill her.

Richet will direct from a screenplay by Peter Craig (The Town). The movie is set to begin shooting this May in New Mexico.

Peter Dinklage Signs Up For Pixels Alongside Adam Sandler

March 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

peter-dinklagePeter Dinklage’s star is certainly on the rise. Following his huge success in Game Of Thrones, he’s getting villainous this summer in X-Men: Days Of Future Past and now TheWrap reports that he is in final talks to join the cast of Pixels.

The cast already includes Adam Sandler, Kevin James and Josh Gad, and based on Patrick Jean’s 2010 short film of the same name, where New York City gets turned into 8-bit videogame pixels by classic old-school titles.

The feature-length version follows an alien race who attack New York City by staging versions of 1980s video games on an epic scale. Humanity’s only hope are four arcade video game champions who are recruited by the government to stop this dangerous threat. Dinklage will play one of these champions, alongside Sandler, James and Gad.

Chris Columbus is set to direct from a script by Tim Herlihy and Timothy Dowling. Sony is apparently envisaging this as a big-budget tentpole in the same vein as Ghostbusters, so expect some massive effects when it’s released next year.

Dayo Okeniyi Joins Terminator: Genesis As Miles Dyson’s Son

March 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dayo-okeniyiJust a couple of days after it was suggested Attack The Block’s John Boyega was in contention to play Miles Dyson’s son in Terminator: Genesis, it turns out the role has been snapped up by someone else, as The Hunger Games star Dayo Okeniyi will take the role.

According to Deadline, Danny Dyson is said to be a Steve Jobs-type genius, who figures heavily into the conclusion of the new movie. As Terminator: Genesis the first part of what is said to be a stand-alone trilogy, it’s possible that Danny could play a bigger role in subsequent sequels.

Danny’s father, Miles Dyson, was played by Joe Morton in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and was the Cyberdyne engineer most responsible for the creation of Skynet.

When John Boyega’s name was being bandied about, it was said it could come down to a choice between Genesis and a role as a Jedi apprentice in Star Wars: Episode VII. What’s still not known is whether Boyega not joining Terminator means he will be part of Star Wars.

Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) is directing Terminator: Genesis with shooting due to begin next month.

First Pics Of Tom Hardy In The Drop, Which Marks James Gandolfini’s Final Role

March 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-drop-pic1Previously known as Animal Rescue (but understandably retitled as this is more crime thriller than a movie about saving cute critters), The Drop is also the final screen role for James Gandolfini, who stars alongside Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace.

Now the first pictures have dropped via USA Today, which you can see above and below.

The movie is based on Dennis Lehane short story about a Boston bartender (Hardy) who desperately attempting to free himself from his past criminal life. After he rescues a pit bull from a garbage can, He gets caught up in a heist gone wrong and a murder revolving around Mafia-controlled bar where he works.

Lehane also wrote the screenplay, with Michaël R. Roskam. A September US release is set.

The Purge: Anarchy Trailer – The 24 hours of crime are back

March 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After the success of The Purge last year, it’s not too surprising a sequel is coming, which has been rushed into production so that there’ll be just a year from the first film until the second.

And now we get our first taste of whether it’ll be a worthy follow-up or a lame cash-in with a trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The New Founding Fathers of America invite you to celebrate the annual Purge. Returning alongside writer/director/producer James DeMonaco to produce the next chapter of the thriller are Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity and Insidious series), alongside Sébastien K. Lemercier (Assault on Precinct 13, Four Lovers) and Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay (Pain & Gain, Transformers franchise), Brad Fuller (The Amityville Horror, A Nightmare on Elm Street) and Andrew Form (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th).’

It’s due out in July. [Read more…]

It’s Motion Capture Time As Behind-The-Scenes Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Pics Arrives

March 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dawn-of-the-planet-bts-pic1Film sets have become increasingly odd places, which often look nothing like they will in the final movie. That particularly true of movies using motion capture, where shooting involves a lot of people wearing leotards covered in dots.

As you can see in the pics above and below, it’s a bit odd, but come the release of Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, they’ll becomes CGI simians.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.’

Matt Reeves directs, with the film due out next July.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Teaser – Leonardo and the gang team up with Megan Fox

March 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Gone are the days when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were either cartoons in guys in Jim Henson Creature Show costumes. They’re getting a major effects upgrade for this new movie, which has just released its first trailer.

It’s looking pretty huge, although it hopefully hasn’t lost the humour.

Along with the first trailer comes the first official image, showing Megan Fox as April O’Neil (or at least April O’Neil after a visit to the Photoshop fairy). She’s certainly a bit different to Judith Hoag.

We’ve still got a while to ait for this one though, as the Jonathan Liebesman directed movie doesn’t hit US cinemas until August, while the UK currently has to wait until October (although if the buzz for this one grows, don’t be surprised if it moves up). [Read more…]

Into The Storm Teaser Trailer – It’s tornado time for Richard Armitage

March 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The trailer for Into The Storm suggests the worst weather related disasters are still to come for humanity – but we already knew that as we’ve seen Sharknado. This film lacks sharks but it does have plenty of twisters, and they’re gonna cause a lot of trouble.

We can get our first taste with a teaser trailer and poster.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the span of a single day, the town of Silverton is ravaged by an unprecedented onslaught of tornadoes. The entire town is at the mercy of the erratic and deadly cyclones, even as storm trackers predict the worst is yet to come. Most people seek shelter, while others run towards the vortex, testing how far a storm chaser will go for that once-in-a-lifetime shot.

‘Told through the eyes and lenses of professional storm chasers, thrill-seeking amateurs, and courageous townspeople, “Into the Storm” throws you directly into the eye of the storm to experience Mother Nature at her most extreme.’

Richard Armitage, Sarah Wayne Callies, Jeremy Sumpter, Matt Walsh star. It’ll be out in August [Read more…]

New Jupiter Ascending Trailer – The Wachowskis get epic with Channing Tatum & Mila Kunis

March 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A new trailer for Andy and Lana Wachowski’s Jupiter Ascending has arrived, which certainly makes the movie look pretty epic. However the jury is slightly out, as historically this sort of film, which takes sci-fi to the edge of fantasy, has always looked great beforehand but underwhelmed on release (e.g. The Chronicles Of Riddick or Dune).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis star in “Jupiter Ascending,” an original science fiction epic adventure from filmmakers Lana and Andy Wachowski (The Matrix).

‘Jupiter Jones (Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people’s houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.’

We’re definitely hoping the actual movie is as cool as it appears when it’s released in July. [Read more…]
