Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor & Michael B. Jordan Are Circling Triple Nine

December 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

casey-affleckCasey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael B. Jordan are in talks to team up with the previously cast Christoph Waltz and Cate Blanchett in Triple Nine, according to TheWrap.

The movie is about a group of criminals who plan on murdering an LAPD cop (Casey Affleck), as they think this will divert attention away from the massive heist they are planning on the other side of town. Ejiofor will be the criminal mastermind behind the whole operation, while Michael B. Jordan is set to be a dirty cop who sets up Casey Affleck’s character.

Affleck is set replace Charlie Hunnam who was in talks to join the cast this summer. However the Sons Of Anarchy actor has since moved on. Cate Blanchett’s involvement however hinges on scheduling. John Hillcoat is directing from a screenplay by Matt Cook. The title, Triple Nine, refers to the police code for when an officer needs immediate assistance.

Ed Helms To Be Frank Drebin In The Naked Gun Reboot

December 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ed-helmsEd Helms was supposed to be rebooting the Vacation franchise, but that movie has been put on hold indefinitely. However it seems he’s still keen to take something from the 80s and give a new take, as Variety reports that he’s joined a remake of The Naked Gun spoof series.

Reno 911! creators Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant have been brought on to write the screenplay, with Ed Helms playing Detective Frank Drebin, as originally played by Leslie Nielsen. There are rumours however that it may be a little different to the original movies and that it won’t be a straightforward police procedural.

Naked Gun began with the short-lived TV series Police Squad!, which was created by the team behind the spoof masterpiece Airplane!. It was cancelled after just six episodes in 1982, but a few years later in 1988 it took to the big screen as The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad. That spawned the sequels The Naked Gun 2½ in 1991 and Naked Gun 33 1/3 in 1994.

At the moment the remake doesn’t have a director attached and it isn’t known when production may begin.

December 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s eight years since Sin City was released, and ever since then we’ve been promised a follow-up. It’s certainly taken its time, and even after filming took place, it’s still been quite a wait, and indeed we won’t be getting to see it until next August.

However now the first official poster has arrived, which doesn’t exactly give us a lot of information, other than that it’s got a great cast.

The sequel features the return of Sin City stars Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis and Rosario Dawson, along with newcomers such as Jamie Chung, Alexa Vega and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. A first trailer is expected soon.

Emilia Clarke Joins Terminator: Genesis As Sarah Connor

December 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Emilia-ClarkeA few days ago it was revealed that Jason Clarke is in talks to play John Connor in Terminator: Genesis. Now it’s been revealed that the film has found his mother in the form of Game Of Thrones star Emilia Clarke (and yes, she is 20 years younger than her on-screen son), according Deadline.

Clarke beat out Brie Larson, who was the other top contender for the role. No story details have been revealed yet, although there’s certainly going to have to be some time-travelling involved, with the suggestion the movie will involve Sarah at a time shortly before the first of the Terminator movies, and that this time she may be travelling to the future to meet her son in the form of Jason Clarke.

The movie is also seeking an actor to play Kyle Reese, John Connor’s father, who was portrayed by Michael Biehn in The Terminator.

Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) is directing from a screenplay by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier. It isn’t known when filming will begin.

Sony Reveals Spider-Man Universe Plans With Venom & Sinister Six Films

December 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amazing-spider-man-poster3
After Marvel’s success every studio wants their own superhero expanded universe, with Fox looking at how they can evolve X-Men and Fantastic Four, DC massively upping how they intend to use their characters on screen and Sony hinting at the fact they want to explore the Spider-man universe.

Now those plans are moving forward as the studio has revealed in a press release they are already working on movies based around Venom and the evil Sinister Six. Screenwriters Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, and Drew Goddard have been brought together to created ‘a franchise brain trust to expand the universe for the brand and to develop a continuous tone and thread throughout the films’.

Kurtzman & Orci (Star Trek, Transformers) & Pinkner are writing the screenplay for The Amazing Spider-Man 3. The movie will shoot next autumn for release on June 10, 2016, with Marc Webb likely to direct the movie. Kurtzman & Orci & Solomon meanwhile will write the screenplay for Venom, which Kurtzman will direct. Goddard (The Cabin In The Woods) will write The Sinister Six, with an eye to  also directing.

Sony had previously announced Amazing Spider-man 4, but that was questioned recently when Andrew Garfield said that had ‘nothing to do with me’. Some wondered if that meant he had no intention of extending his contract past the three films he initially signed up for, but it actually appears it’s more because Spidey 4 will actually become either Sinister 6 or Venom and may not feature his character at all.

First Official Pics From Transcendence Drop, Featuring Johnny Depp & Morgan Freeman

December 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

transcendence-preview-pic2
A couple of days ago the official synopsis dropped for Transcendence, the first feature directed by Christopher Nolan’s cinematographer, Wally Pfister. Now a couple of images have arrived, which you can see above and below. A trailer is expected very soon.

Here that synopsis: ‘Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed—to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and best friend Max Waters (Paul Bettany), both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can…but if they should. Their worst fears are realized as Will’s thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.’

Transcendence co-stars Morgan Freeman, Cillian Murphy, Kate Mara and Paul Bettany. The film is due out next April.

Sandra Bullock In Talks For The George Clooney Produced Our Brand Is Crisis

December 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sandra-BullockGeorge Clooney likes to work with his friends, and following Gravity it appears he’s keen to keep the Sandra Bullock connection going. Clooney is producing Our Brand Is Crisis, and now TheWrap reports that Bullock is in talks to star.

The Gravity connection is no coincidence as the pair apparently discussed the movie a lot while on the lengthy press tour for the sci-fi movie, which has now resulted in Sandra officially joining talks for the movie.

The political comedy is based on Rachel Boynton’s 2005 documentary, ‘which focused on the use of American political campaign strategies in Bolivia by President Clinton’s former consultants James Carville and Stan Greenberg’.

It’s no clear if Clooney will appear in the movie as well. It is known that he’s unlikely to direct though.

Don Cheadle May Be Back In The Avengers: Age of Ultron

December 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

don-cheadleIt appears that Don Cheadle will return to the Marvel Universe as James Rhodes in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Cheadle himself hinted at it during an interview to talk about his Golden Globe nomination for House of Lies.

Unfortunately USA Today, which got the scoop, doesn’t have the actual quote, but it does say he confirmed that he, “has a part to film in the next Avengers movie,” along with his Miles Davis biopic Kill the Trumpet Player.

So far his character, James Rhodes, has been confined to the Iron Man movies (and was played by Terrence Howard in the first film), so if he is up fro Ultron, this will be the first time he’s joined the expanded universe. He has however previously hinted about having conversations with Joss Whedon about appearing in Age of Ultron. He’s also mentioned that he visited the set of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but there’s been no word on whether he will be a part of the film at all.

There’s no news either on how he will fit into the Avengers movie, especially considering what Tony Stark did at the end of Iron Man 3.

Frank Grillo Will Play The Lead In The Purge 2

December 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

frank-grilloThe Purge earned over $90 million worldwide from just a $3 million budget and has since found further success on DVD. Unsurprisingly it’s meant Universal Pictures wants a sequel and they want it fast, as they’ve set a June 20th, 2014 release date for The Purge 2.

That means it need to go into production pretty soon, but first they need a cast. Now it’s started to come together as Deadline has revealed that Frank Grillo has signed on to star.

No specific plot details have been revealed, and it isn’t known how this sequel will follow The Purge. The first film is set in the not-so-distant future. Crime has been nearly eradicated except for one night out of the year, known as The Purge, when for a 12-hour period any and all crime is legal, including murder. Presumably The Purge 2 will follow what happens during that time, although it’s not known if it’ll directly relate to the first movie or if it will follow a completely different set of characters dealing with the terror.

The Purge’s James DeMonaco is writing and directing the sequel, with Jason Blum, Sebastian LeMercier, Michael Bay, Bradley Fuller and Andrew Form producing.
