Jason Isaacs Finds Fury, Alongside Brad Pitt & Logan Lerman

October 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jason-isaacsFury has been shooting for the last few weeks and we’ve even had the first photo. However that doesn’t mean the cast is complete, as it’s only now that it’s been revealed, via THR, that Jason Isaacs has signed on to star.

The actor will play the the senior member of a five-man tank crew, who come across a desperate Nazi unit towards the end of World War II when they find themselves trapped behind enemy lines. His character is the confident captain and team veteran, who Brad Pitt’s character looks to for advice. Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Peña and Scott Eastwood co-star.

What’s the betting that as he’s only just signed up, Isaac’s character doesn’t make it to the end credits?

David Ayer is directing from his own screenplay.

New Clip Of Daniel Radcliffe & Dane DeHaan In Kill Your Darlings Emerges

October 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After months of waiting, it’s not too long before we’ll all get to see Daniel Radcliffe as gay poet Allen Ginsberg in Kill Your Darlings, with the US release set for October 16th and the UK release recently shifted to December 6th.

Now a new clip from the film has emerged (via Out), showing off the chemistry between Radcliffe and Dan DeHaan, who plays Lucien Carr’s the object of Radcliffe’s affection in the movie. Take a look above.

Based on a true story, Kill Your Darlings charts how a murder helped shape the lives of a group of young men who went on to become the beat generation. DeHaan plays Lucien Carr, the man who introduced Howl writer Allen Ginsberg (Radcliffe) to the likes of William S. Burroughs (Ben Foster) and Jack Kerouac (Jack Huston).

During these early, hedonistic days, a man called David Kammerer (Michael C. Hall) fell for Carr, with his infatuation becoming increasingly obsessive and unhinged – the gay Ginsberg once discovered Kammerer trying to murder Jack Kerouac’s cat. It eventually resulted in Carr stabbing Kammerer to death him and going to prison for his murder. The violent event is said to have indelibly changed all the people involved and etched its way into the published works of the Beat writers. You can watch the trailer here. [Read more…]

Well, in real life she has found happiness, and now she’s all set to seal it legally, as Dot Marie has proposed to longtime girlfriend, Bridgett Casteen.

Gravity Breaks October Records At The US Box Office

October 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gravity-poster1There’s been plenty of interest in Gravity, but few expected it to do as well as it has on its opening weekend in the US. It took an impressive $55.5 million, a new record for October, outdoing the previous best, 2011’s Paranormal Activity 3.

Interestingly it’s also the best opening for both George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. With critics and audiences raving, it should continue to do well over the coming weeks, making it a bona fide mega-hit. Some even suggest it could make a decent awards runs this winter, which is very unusual for a sci-fi movie.

Not all the new movies did as well, as Runner Runner bombed with just $7.6 million. Even the combined star power of Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck couldn’t draw audiences out, partly because the marketing failed to make it clear what the movie is about. It also seems viewers didn’t think much of it, suggesting it’s unlikely to have much staying power either.

The only other new entry was Pulling Strings, which took $2.5 million to land in ninth place. It’s the second movie in the last month aimed at Hispanic audiences that’s hit the top 10, which is impressive as usually they’re barely noticed at the box office. The other film, Instructions Not Included, is now the highest grossing Spanish-language film ever at the US box office, with $41.2 million. Pulling Strings has little chance of besting that, but it’s still doing well.

Take a look at the US box office top 10 for the weekend of October 4th-7th.

Rank Title Weekend Gross (millions) Total Gross to date (millions)
1 Gravity $55.5 $55,5
2 Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 $21.5 $60.5
3 Runner Runner $7.6 $7.6
4 Prisoners $5.7 $47.8
5 Rush $4.4 $18.0
6 Don Jon $4.1 $16.0
7 Baggage Claim $4.1 $15.1
8 Insidious Chapter 2 $3.8 $74.7
9 Pulling Strings $2.5 $2.5
10 Enough Said $2.1 $5.3

I, Frankenstein Trailer – Aaron Eckhart is all sewn together and supernatural

October 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

This is one of those trailers that’s so busy trying to look cool that it’s doesn’t realise it actually looks a bit daft. That’s doesn’t mean the film can’t be fun, as long as a portentous tone doesn’t rob it on entertainment value.

The film is based on Kevin Grevioux’s graphic novel of the same name about Adam Frankenstein (Aaron Eckhart), the creation of Dr. Frankenstein, who is still alive centuries after his ‘birth’. Adam is hunted down by a clan of demons who want to learn Adam’s secret in order to reanimate deceased demons and start a new army.

Miranda Otto, Jai Courtney, Bill Nighy and Aden Young also star.

The release date has been slipping from February 2013 to September 2013 and now it’s due next January. [Read more…]

Danny Boyle Takes On Heist Flick Smash and Grab

October 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

danny-boyleDanny Boyle has picked his next film and this one is based on a documentary. Following Trance, he’s returning to the heist genre, signing up to direct Smash and Grab, according to Variety. The film is a narrative adaptation of the recent documentary, Smash & Grab: The Story of The Pink Panthers, directed by Havana Marking.

Here’s the documentary’s official synopsis: ‘Their crimes resemble high-octane Hollywood action movies: a sports car speeds through a Dubai shopping mall, crashing into the windows of a Graff jewelry store. Masked, gun-wielding men jump out of the car, and stuff fistfuls of diamonds into their satchels before screeching off. In London, they took all of three minutes to make off with $30 million in diamonds. They are captured not in person, but on surveillance tapes that record their astonishing lightning strikes with hypnotic accuracy.

‘Playing out like a noir thriller spiced with cutting-edge animation and shocking real surveillance footage, Havana Marking’s Smash & Grab is an exclusive all-access pass into the mysterious world of international jewel thieves. Dubbed The Pink Panthers, the formidable Balkan gang has stolen nearly a billion dollars worth of jewels from boutiques in the world’s most opulent cities, including Geneva, Paris, London, Dubai and Tokyo. Through never-before-seen interviews with key gang members, this provocative documentary delves into the gang’s incredible history and introduces the viewer to the global police forces who work furiously to stop them. Beyond the glitz of the Panthers’ incredible heists, Smash & Grab exposes dark truths about the illicit diamond trade and the world’s most ruthless mafia networks.’

It’s a tale that certainly sounds made for cinema and Boyle could have a lot of fun with it. Boyle apparently saw the documentary and became interested in making a feature based on it. Pathe and Fox Searchlight will co-produce and co-finance the adaptation.
