Tropic Thunder Writer Etan Cohen To Direct Will Ferrell & Kevin Hart InGet Hard

September 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Etan-CohenEtan Cohen, who’s probably best known for co-writing Tropic Thunder, has signed up to direct Warner Bros’ comedy Get Hard, according to Variety. Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart have been attached to star in since December.

The film is about an affluent investment banker (Ferrell) who is sent to prison for a crime he didn’t commit (nobody in films goes to prison for crimes they did commit – except for maybe the bad guy at the end). Before he is locked up, he ‘trains’ for prison life with the man who washes his car (Kevin Hart).

Warner Bros. wants to start shooting as soon as possible, as they want to get it in the can before the actors commit to any other movies. Etan Cohen’s feature directorial debut was supposed to Daddy’s Home, which also has Will Ferrell attached to star, but now Get Hard is likely to come first.

Aaron Eckhart Will Be Incarnate For Insidious Producer Jason Blum

September 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

aaron-eckhartProducer Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions is the king on horror at the moment, backing the likes of Paranormal Activity, Sinister, and Insidious. Now they’re teaming up with Aaron Eckhart on what they hope will be their next franchise, Incarnate, according to Deadline.

The movie is about an unorthodox exorcist (Eckhart) who has the ability to peer inside the subconscious of a possessed person. He is faced with his most difficult challenge yet when he learns that a nine-year-old boy is possessed by a malevolent demon from his past.

Brad Peyton (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island) is set to direct from a screenplay by Ronnie Christensen (Dark Tide). There’s no news when it might shoot.

Garrett Hedlund On For Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken

Garrett Hedlund

After he apparently refused to take no for an answer (which is what he himself says) Garrett Hedlund has finalised a deal to star in director Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken. Initially it looked like scheduling conflicts were going to prevent Hedlund signing on, but he was really keen and so after spending a month shuffling things around, he’s signed up.

Jack O’Connell is set to star as Louis Zamperini in Unbroken, a former Olympic track star whose Air Force plane went down in the Pacific Ocean. He managed to survive for 47 days on a life raft in the midst of shark attacks and enemy fire, before he washed up on a Japanese island where he was taken prisoner for more than two years. Hedlund is portraying fellow P.O.W. Commander John Fitzgerald.

Angelina Jolie is directing, with film scheduled to begin in October. (Source: Variety)

Mark Strong Joins Alan Turing Biopic Imitation Game As It Starts Shooting

September 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

mark-strongAfter being in development for years, the biopic of gay computing pioneer and codebreaker Alan Turing, The Imitation Game, finally started shooting in the UK yesterday. With that news came info that the likes of Mark Strong and Charles Dance have joined the cast.

Turing is a pioneer of modern-day computing who credited with helping crack the fiendish German codes, such as Enigma, during the Second World War. The film will chronicle the nail-biting race against time by Turing and his brilliant team at Britain’s top-secret code-breaking center, Bletchley Park.

Turing, whose contributions and genius significantly shortened the war, saving thousands of lives, was the eventual victim of an unenlightened British Establishment, who prosecuted him for being gay and forced him to agree to be chemically castrated.

Tragically Turing admitted to the police he was gay while reporting a robbery, believing they would protect him and catch those who’d stolen from him. Instead it was him who found himself in court. After he was convicted he was shunned by the establishment and despite he incredible mind he found himself pushed to the sideline. He committed suicide (although some say it was an accident) not too long afterwards.

As what he’d done during the war was a state secret, it took decades for him to get the public credit he is due.

Benedict Cumberbatch takes the lead role in The Intimidation Game, with Keira Knightley as Turing’s friend and fellow code-breaker Joan Clarke (the author of the book the film is based on has already criticised the film as he believes the script overplays their relationship. Also starring are Matthew Goode, Mark Strong, Rory Kinnear, Charles Dance, Allen Leech and Matthew Beard ).

Norwegian filmmaker Morten Tyldum (Headhunters), is directing from a screenplay by Graham Moore, based on the book Alan Turing: The Enigm” by Andrew Hodges.

New Machete Kills Red Band Trailer – Danny Trejo, Sofia Vergara & Charlie Sheen get into the grindhouse action

September 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Machete Kills is nearly here, and to get us excited a new Red Band trailer has arrived, preparing us for the film’s October release. It gives a good feel for the movie, which is definitely sticking to its grindhouse roots, with ridiculously over the top violence and silliness.

It’s also keen to show off the cast, which includes Danny Trejo, Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, Cuba Gooding Jr., Demián Bichir, Michelle Rodriguez, Lady Gaga, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Jessica Alba, Alexa Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, William Sadler, and Antonio Banderas.

In the movie, Machete is called on by the President to stop a Billionaire (Gibson) who’s planning to launch a missile into space. [Read more…]

Nebraska Trailer – Will Forte & Bruce Dern star in the latest from Sideways director Alexander Payne

September 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Alexander Payne’s Nebraska has been generating interest at film festivals, and now we get to take out first look at the black and white film. Payne has been trying to make the film for years. Now it’s in the can and set for an Oscar qualifying US run later this year.

The movie follows Bruce Dern as a struggling alcoholic who believes he has won a sweepstakes lottery, so he hops in the car with his underachiever of a son (Will Forte) to claim his prize. ‘Shot in black and white across four states, Nebraska tells the stories of family life in the heartland of America.’

Black and white is going to be a tough sell to mainstream audiences, but Payne’s films are almost always worth a look. [Read more…]

Tron: Uprising’s Charlie Bean To Direct Lego Ninjago Movie

September 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lego-ninjagoA couple of months ago Warner Bros. decided that although their animated The Lego Movie doesn’t arrive in cinemas until next February, they were going to move forward with another Lego project, this one based on the popular Ninjago line.

Now that film has found a director, as THR reports that Warner has hired Charlie Bean, who directed Disney  animated series Tron: Uprising, to make the movie.

Dan Hageman and Hageman, who received a ‘story by’ credit on The Lego Movie have been set to write Ninjago, with Dan Lin and Roy Lee producing alongside Lego Movie directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord.

Ninjango has already spawned the Cartoon Network series, Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu (which the Hageman’s also wrote for), but this will show the Samurai inspired figures on a larger scale.

The film will mark Bean’s movie directing debut.

Leonardo DiCaprio Takes on Woodrow Wilson Biopic

September 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

leo-dicaprioWoodrow Wilson isn’t the most famous of US presidents, but history loving Leonardo DiCaprio hopes to change that, as THR reports that he’s planning to produce a film adaptation of A. Scott Berg’s biography of the 28th President, simply titled Wilson.

DiCaprio is also planning to play the central role.

The film will focus on Wilson’s progressive achievements, such as the creation of the Federal Reserve and his support of the Treaty of Versailles, which formally ended the First World War (he was the President throughout the War). His Presidency was marked by great efforts to reform things such as child labour and wayward businesses, but he was fought every step of the way. If that weren’t enough, he also helped form the pre-UN League of Nation and suffered a stroke while in office.

Less impressive was his weak record on civil rights for African Americans, and while he supported women’s suffrage, many believe this was more political than due to a genuine belief in women’s right. Before he became president, he was a professor at Wesleyan University, President of Princeton University, and was the only President in history to hold a Ph.D.

Warner Bros. is currently in talks to pick up the film, although no director or screenwriter is currently attached.

Lucas Black Returns To The Fast & Furious Franchise For Parts 7, 8 & 9

September 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lucas-blackWhen The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift was released in 2006, it seemed like Lucas Black was poised to take over the franchise. But when Paul Walker and Vin Diesel’s career didn’t take off quite as they’d hoped, they returned for the fourth film in the series and that was the last we’ve seen of Black’s Sean Boswell.

However now he’s returning, as Deadline says he’s won’t just be in Fast & Furious 7, he’ll also be in the planned parts 8 & 9 of the racing series.

Oddly enough, it actually makes sense that he wasn’t in the last three films, as Fast & Furious 4, 5 & 6 are all set before Tokyo Drift, but a post-credits scene in the most recent film shows that we’ve caught up to the events shown in the third movie, which allows Boswell’s return without breaking the continuity.

He joins a cast that includes franchise mainstays Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, along with new additions Jason Statham, Ronda Rousey, Tony Jaa, Kurt Russell, Nathalie Emmanuel and Djimon Hounsou.

James Wan is directing from a screenplay by Chris Morgan. Filming has already begun.

Rob Lowe Signs Up For Sex Tape (Oh, The Irony)

September 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rob-LoweIn 1988, Rob Lowe’s blooming, heartthrob career nearly came to a complete end when he was caught on tape having sex with a 16-year-old girl and a 22-year-old woman the night before the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta.

It took him a long time to fight his way back (it wasn’t until The West Wing that Hollywood properly forgave him), but it seems Lowe thinks 25 years is enough time to allow a little irony, as he has signed on for a role in the Sony Pictures comedy, Sex Tape, according to TheWrap.

Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz take the lead roles a married couple who try to spice up their love life by making a sex tape. However, the next day they can’t find the tape, which launches them on a frantic search to find the video before it ends up in the wrong hands.

Lowe has signed up to play the high-strung CEO of the Children’s Toy Company, who inadvertently comes into possession of the tape that the young couple is trying to get back. Rob Corddry and Jack Black also star.

Jake Kasdan (Bad Teacher) is directing, with filming die to begin later in the autumn.

I half wonder whether Lowe signed up just so that when people put ‘rob lowe sex tape’ into Google, something other than his 1988 ignominy comes up in the results.
