Monster Trucks Trailer – Lucas Till gets a weird creature under his bonnet

November 17, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

monster-trucks-poster-slideMonster Trucks has been hanging around for a while, and the studio behind it has so little faith they’ve already written of a multi-million dollar loss on it. However, they’ve nevertheless given it a prime December 26th release date, in the hope of enticing kids while they’re out of school.

But while it may not be the hit they were originally hoping for, it does look bizarre enough that it might not be too bad.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Looking for any way to get away from the life and town he was born into, Tripp (Lucas Till), a high school senior, builds a Monster Truck from bits and pieces of scrapped cars. After an accident at a nearby oil-drilling site displaces a strange and subterranean creature with a taste and a talent for speed, Tripp may have just found the key to getting out of town and a most unlikely friend.

‘Melding cutting edge visual effects and state-of-the-art CGI, Monster Trucks is an action filled adventure for the whole family that will keep you on the edge of your seat and ultimately touch your heart.’ [Read more…]

Monster Trucks Trailer – Or at least a monster in a truck, with Lucas Till

June 1, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

monster-trucks-slideI think it’s likely the title for this movie came before any idea about the plot, which may explain why the trailer suggests this is gonna be a bit of an odd movie. Not necessarily a bad one, but an odd one.

Ice Age’s Chris Wedge directs the movie, which will be in cinemas February 2017. Take a look at the first trailer below. [Read more…]

Rob Lowe Joins Lucas Till & Jane Levy In Monster Trucks

April 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rob-LoweRob Lowe is going back to the movies as he has signed up to star in the live-action/CGI comedy, Monster Trucks, according to Deadline.

Jane Levy, Lucas Till, Danny Glover, Amy Ryan, Holt McCallany, Thomas Lennon and Barry Pepper also set to star, with Chris Wedge (Ice Age: Continental Drift) is directing from a script by Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger (Kung Fu Panda).

There’s not too much word on the plot, although previous reports have suggested Lucas Till is playing a bad boy with a good heart, while Jane Levy’s character is described as a high school version of Tina Fey.

As May 29th, 2015 release date has already been set.

Behind The Candelabra (DVD)

October 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Michael Douglas, Rob Lowe, Scott Bakula, Debbie Reynolds, Matt Damon
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Running Time: 118 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: October 14th 2013

Hollywood studios refused to pay for Behind The Candelabra as despite the presence of Michael Douglas, Matt Damon, director Steven Soderbergh (Traffic, Ocean’s 11) and having a relatively low-budget, they thought it was too gay to become a success. They’re probably kicking themselves now as HBO stepped up to the pay for it and had a huge hit with it on US TV, while distributors in other countries took it to cinemas and saw healthy box office. Rob Lowe Signs Up For Sex Tape (Oh, The Irony)

September 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rob-LoweIn 1988, Rob Lowe’s blooming, heartthrob career nearly came to a complete end when he was caught on tape having sex with a 16-year-old girl and a 22-year-old woman the night before the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta.

It took him a long time to fight his way back (it wasn’t until The West Wing that Hollywood properly forgave him), but it seems Lowe thinks 25 years is enough time to allow a little irony, as he has signed on for a role in the Sony Pictures comedy, Sex Tape, according to TheWrap.

Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz take the lead roles a married couple who try to spice up their love life by making a sex tape. However, the next day they can’t find the tape, which launches them on a frantic search to find the video before it ends up in the wrong hands.

Lowe has signed up to play the high-strung CEO of the Children’s Toy Company, who inadvertently comes into possession of the tape that the young couple is trying to get back. Rob Corddry and Jack Black also star.

Jake Kasdan (Bad Teacher) is directing, with filming die to begin later in the autumn.

I half wonder whether Lowe signed up just so that when people put ‘rob lowe sex tape’ into Google, something other than his 1988 ignominy comes up in the results.

Behind The Candelabra (Cinema)

June 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Michael Douglas, Rob Lowe, Debbie Reynolds, Dan Aykroyd, Matt Damon
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Running Time: 118 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: June 7th 2013

Soderbergh has famously stated this will be his last film. If true that would be a real shame, as he seems to have saved his best work till last. This biopic of Liberace is one of his best films – arguably his best of all. It’s extremely funny without any nastiness, camp without being bitchy and ultimately a very touching piece about ageing, desire, friendship and companionship.

It also features career-defining performances from Douglas and Damon. Douglas is clearly having the time of his life as the outrageous entertainer – what a shame he can’t be nominated for an Oscar (as it premiered on HBO in the US, ruling it ineligible). It’s a spot-on performance of an ageing, absurd, ridiculous man, but the key is that Douglas’ Liberace takes himself completely seriously. A twinkle in Douglas’ eye would ruin it. What we have here is a master entertainer, a talented musician with a desire to be loved, and absolutely no self-awareness at all. He is vain, selfish and determined to have his desires fulfilled. I Melt With You (DVD)

August 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Thomas Jane, Rob Lowe, Jeremy Piven, Christian Cook
Director: Mark Pellington
Running Time: 117 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: August 6th 2012

How much you enjoy I Melt With You is completely dependent on how you react to the complete left-turn the movie takes halfway through, and also that you don’t expect, as some of the marketing (particularly what came out of the US) has suggested, that this is kind of like a mid-life crisis The Hangover. It most certainly isn’t.

Every year four men meet for a week of drug fuelled debauchery away from their staid normal lives and family. For those few days they can retreat to their youth and its carefree pursuit of fun and the fact everything back in those days was felt far more keenly, before being numbed by the real world. Richard (Thomas Jane), Ron (Jeremy Piven), Jonathan (Rob Lowe) and Tim (Christian McKay) certainly go all out for drink, drugs, sex and general mania, but on day 4, things go horribly wrong when one of them kills themselves. This sets off an ever descending journey for the remaining mates, all based around a note they wrote 25 years before, during their final year of college. [Read more…]

Out Actor Cheyenne Jackson Joins Liberace Biopic

June 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

HBO is certainly staking a claim to be able to compete with Hollywood, getting some of the best names in the business for their TV output, both in terms of series and films. That said, they’re really taking things up a notch with their Liberace biopic, Behind The Candelabra, which Oscar-winner Steven Soderbergh is directing.

The film already has Michael Douglas as Liberace, and Matt Damon as his long-time live-in lover, Scott Thorson (although Liberace denied publicly to his dying day that he was gay). Dan Aykroys is also onboard as the flamboyant pianist’s manager, with Debbie Reynolds as Liberace’s mother.

Now the cast has grown once more, as The Playlist reports that gay (and exceedingly hot) actor Cheyenne Jackson has signed on, as have Rob Lowe and Boyd Holbrook. Lowe will play a plastic surgeon in the movie and Holbrook will be one of Liberace’s youthful lovers. Unfortunately Jackson’s role hasn’t been revealed. Variety adds that Scott Bakula will also be in the movie, playing Bob Black, the choreographer who introduced Liberace to Thorson.

Shooting is due to begin this summer. While it will first play on TV in the US, the plan is for it to get a cinema release in other countries (although it may also initially play on TV in the UK, depending on the details of HBO’s exclusive deal with Sky).
