New Don Jon Trailer – Fresh look at Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut

August 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s been a lot of interest in Don Jon, largely because it’s the first film Joseph Gordon Levitt has directed. He also stars in the movie, alongside Scarlett Johnasson, Julianne Moore and Tony Danza. Now we can get a fresh look with a brand new trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Jon Martello (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a strong, handsome, good old-fashioned guy. His buddies call him Don Jon due to his ability to “pull” a different woman every weekend, but even the finest fling doesn’t compare to the bliss he finds alone in front of the computer watching pornography. Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is a bright, beautiful, good old-fashioned girl. Raised on romantic Hollywood movies, she’s determined to find her Prince Charming and ride off into the sunset. Wrestling with good old-fashioned expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy in this unexpected comedy written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.’

It’s due out later this year. [Read more…]

Kristen Wiig May Have A Nasty Baby In A Gay-Themed Indie Drama

August 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kristen-wiigIf Hollywood had its way, Kristen Wiig would just make Bridesmaids clones and sequels, but she’s not interested in that – indeed she turned down a huge deal to write and star in the follow-up to her breakout movie hit. Now she’s hoping show off he dramatic skills, as TheWrap reports that she’s circling the gay-themed indie drama Nasty Baby.

It won’t be her first drama, as a few years ago she took a small role in All Good Things, but this one would put her front and centre. Writer/director Sebastian Silva and TV on the Radio frontman Tunde Adebimpe are set to play Freddy and Mo, ‘a gay couple who are trying to have a baby with the help of their best friend Anna, who would be played by Wiig if a deal closes…’

‘Freddy is an artist whose latest work is all about babies. Anna is a family practitioner who is more interested in having a baby than having a man. Mo is hesitant about the entire idea, especially when Anna isnʼt having success with Freddyʼs sperm and the donor responsibility shifts to him.’

Nothing has been signed, as although Wiig wants to do the movie, they’re still to sort out details (not least her schedule). Alia Shawkat, Mark Margolis and Denis O’Hare are all being eyed for supporting roles.

Jeremy Piven Joins Tom Cruise In Edge of Tomorrow

August 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jeremy-pivenJust before Comic Con, Tom Cruise’ upcoming sci-fi changed from being All You Need Is Kill to Edge Of Tomorrow. Now it’s edged further to the bid screen with the news, via Deadline, that Jeremy Piven has joined the cast.

It’s a bit of a surprise he’s been added so late as the film has been shooting for a while in the UK. However as Jeremy was already in Britain shooting a new series of Mr. Selfridge, they’ve managed to slot him in. He will apparently play a character called Col. Walter Marx.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘The epic action of Edge of Tomorrow unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.

‘Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop-forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.

‘But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.’

It’s due out June 2014.

August 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

escape-plan-poster3
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone spent a bit of time together in The Expendables movies, but now they’re properly teaming up for Escape Plan. It may be 20 years after most people would have really wanted the action legends to make a movie together, but it’s coming nevertheless!

Now two new posters have arrived, which you can see above and below.

Directed by Mikael Hafstrom, Escape Plan is about Ray Breslin (Sylvester Stallone), a security expert who is framed for a crime and sent to the ultra maximum security prison that he designed. With the help of longtime inmate Swan Rottmayer (Arnold Schwarzenegger), Ray hatches a plan to break out of this one-of-a-kind floating prison at sea, and clear his name.

A UK release date is set for September 27th, with a US release set for October 18th.

Rob Williams Is Out To Kill For His Latest Gay-Themed Film, & He Needs Your Help

August 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rob-williamsRob Williams has become a bit of a one-man gay-themed film industry, having made the likes of Three Day Weekend, Make The Yuletide Gay, Role/Play and The Men Next Door. Now he’s announced his seventh movie, which will be as LGBT-friendly as his earlier movies, as he’s planning a gay murder mystery, which is currently going by the title Out To Kill.

A press release from Williams company, Guest House Films (which he co-founded with Rodney Johnson in 2005), says, ‘Out To Kill is an intricate and witty “whodunit” murder mystery centered around a group of gay men living in a Florida loft complex. When one of their own is found dead in the building’s central courtyard, his neighbors enlist the help of Jim Noble, the resident private eye, to track down the killer. With its surprise ending and tropical location, the film offers a sexy, gay twist to the traditional murder mystery.’

The current plan is to start shooting in November in in Tampa, Florida. It’s a bit of a change for Guest House, who’ve made all the rest of their movies in Southern California.

“The people of Tampa and St. Petersburg have always been extremely supportive of our films, and have often offered to help if we ever decided to shoot a film in the area,” said Williams. “So I returned to Florida earlier this year, found some great locations, and then wrote the script with Tampa in mind.”

In order to help raise funds for Out To Kill, Guest House Films has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.  The campaign includes unique rewards such as the opportunity to name characters in the movie, pieces of original artwork that will be used in the film, and even a VIP Las Vegas experience with the Guest House Films founders. Vin Diesel Takes On Sci-fi Thriller Soldiers of the Sun

August 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

riddick-vin-diesel-shirtlessA couple of years ago it seemed Vin Diesel’s star was on the wane, with his career going the Paul Walker route of people only wanting to see him in Fast & Furious movies. However he’s still busy working on other projects, with Riddick in the can and The Last Witch Hunter and Guardians Of The Galaxy in the works.

Now THR reports that Diesel is attached to star in and produce the sci-fi thriller Soldiers of the Sun. Universal Pictures is backing the film, with an eye to turning this into a major franchise. Arash Amel (Grace of Monaco, Erased) is on screenplay duty, for a film set in a post-apocalyptic landscape during a war with alien creatures known as Orcs. The tale centres on a group of soldiers on a tour of duty in Mexico, who search for a lost city of gold between battles.

No director is currently attached, and with Diesel having a packed schedule (he’s also got Fast & Furious 7 to shoot), he’s unlikely to be able to get round to it until next year at the earliest.

Fading Gigolo Trailer – Woody Allen turns pimp in John Turturro’s film

August 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

John Turturro made one of his very first movie appearances in Woody Allen’s Hannah and Her Sisters. 28 years later they’ve swapped roles, with Turturro behind the camera and Woody making a rare acting appearance in a film he didn’t helm. Perhaps most surprisingly, in Fading Gigolo Allen plays a pimp.

The film also stars Sofia Vergara and Sharon Stone and is about two men (Allen and Turturro) who are growing old and need some cash, so they become gigolos. Allen begins to pimp out Turturro, but things go wrong when the folks in the Hasidic Jewish community where they live begin to suspect what’s going on and Turturro falls for a Jewish widow.

Stone plays a dermatologist who hires Tuturro, while Vergara will play a married woman who wishes to have a threesome with Stone and Turturro. The movie premiere’s at TIFF, and in anticipation of that, the first trailer has been release, which you can watch here.

Adele, Elton John & David Beckham May Cameo In Matthew Vaughn’s Secret Service

August 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

adele-oscars-2013It seems Matthew Vaughn is planning some unexpected cameos in his upcoming The Secret Service, with reports that Adele, David Beckham and Elton John possibly popping up opposite Colin Firth, Taron Egerton and Samuel L. Jackson.

There’s no news on what Elton and Beckham might be doing in the movie, but Adele is apparently going to be one of the film’s villains. “Adele is exactly what Matthew is looking for… He wants the highest-profile names in various fields to boost the film’s cause and turn it into a mega-money franchise,” a source said. It’s not her first acting gig, as she had a cameo in Ugly Betty, but this will be her first film role.

Perhaps she can add an acting Oscar to the one she won for the theme song to Skyfall.

Colin Firth is set to play a veteran MI6 spy who takes his nephew Gary (Taron Egerton) under his wing. He hopes that mentoring the young man in the ways of covert affairs will put him on the straight and narrow. Matthew Vaughn is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jane Goldman, which is adapted from the comic book series created by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. Production is slated to begin sometime this autumn.

August 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

oldboy-preview-pic5
While some are still furious that Hollywood has dared remake Park Chan-Wook’s Oldboy, it actually look pretty intriguing, and Spike Lee is definitely an interesting director to take the project on. We’ve already had a poster and trailer, and now some new images have been released, featuring Elizabeth Olsen and Josh Brolin being all shirtless and locked up.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘OLDBOY is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment. Co-starring Elizabeth Olsen and Sharlto Copley, OLDBOY was directed by Spike Lee, from a script by Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, The Cell, Thor). The film was produced by Roy Lee, Doug Davison and Nathan Kahane.’

The film will hit cinemas this autumn.
