Anna Paquin & Holliday Grainger To Star In Lesbian Drama Tell It To The Bees

August 13, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Actresses Anna Paquin and Holliday Grainger are currently in Scotland to shoot the new movie, Tell It To The Bees. The film is a lesbian-themed drama, tinged with magical realism, based on Fiona Shaw’s novel, according to Deadline.

In the film, ‘Paquin plays Doctor Jean Markham who returns to her hometown to take over her late father’s practice. When a school-yard scuffle lands young Charlie in her office, she invites him to visit the hives in her garden and to tell his secrets to the bees as she once did. The friendship between the boy and the doctor brings his mother Lydia (Grainger) into Jean’s world. The women find themselves drawn to one another in a way that Jean recognizes and fears, and which Lydia could never have expected. But in 1950s small-town Britain, the secret won’t stay hidden forever.’

Annabel Jankel will direct. It’s a slightly different project for her, as she’s best known for her work in music videos and music documentaries, as well as her movies in the 80s and early 90s such as Max Headroom, D.O.A, and Super Mario Bros. Hopefully we’ll get to see Tell It To The Bees sometime next year.

Leonardo DiCaprio Is Going To Play Leonardo Da Vinci, But Will He Be Gay?

August 13, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Leonardo DiCaprio apparently got his name after his mother felt him kick in the womb while she was looking at a Leonardo da Vinci painting in the Uffizi in Florence. It’s perhaps not too much of a surprise then that the now fully grown Leo would be interested in playing the renaissance genius in a movie.

His wish has come a step closer as Paramount has beaten Universal to the rights to Walter Isaacson’s upcoming book on da Vinci, which comes with DiCaprio set to star. The actor will also produce via his Appian Ways production company, according to Variety.

Not too much more info is known about the movie, such as whether it will be a complete birth-to-death biopic, or whether it will focus on just part of the artist and inventor’s rather complex life. It’ll also be interesting to see how it deals with da Vinci’s sexuality, as many people presume he was gay – but scholars disagree whether he was actively gay, or whether he was completely celibate (none of his writings shed much light on the matter). What is known is that he was charged with sodomy in 1476, although it was dismissed as the accusation was made anonymously. Some believe he may have had relationships with men before this but become celibate afterwards.

We will have to wait and see how it’s handled in the DiCaprio film (or whether he just becomes straight).

A Series About The Rise Of A Young RuPaul Is Coming To Hulu

August 10, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few days ago RuPaul mentioned in an interview that there was a TV show about his early life in the works, adding that JJ Abrams was behind it and Willow Smith could play him. At the time it was difficult to know if he was being serious or not, but it turns out he was.

THR reports that the show has now found a home at Hulu, although there’s no mention of whether Smith really will be involved. As well as Abrams, World of Wonder’s Fenton Bailey, Tom Campbell and Randy Barbato will also be involved – they have a long track record of LGBT entertainment, including Party Monster, Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures and, of course, RuPaul’s Drag Race.

The series will be a fictionalised take of RuPaul’s rise, starting when he was a club kid and following how he became the world’s most famous drad performer and a gay icon. RuPaul was ‘born in San Diego in 1960 and studied performing arts in Atlanta before moving to New York, where he became a staple on the nightclub scene. He rocketed to fame after the release of his first single, “Supermodel (You Better Work).” That led to a VH1 talk show, The RuPaul Show. He has been the host of RuPaul’s Drag Race and multiple spinoffs since 2009.’

Deadpool Helmer Tim Miller Plans To Take On William Gibson’s Neuromancer

August 10, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Neuromancer is probably William Gibson’s most famous and celebrated novel. However, despite various attempts over the years it’s never been brought to the big screen (indeed Gibson’s idiosyncratic style means few of his stories have).

Now though, Deadpool director Tim Miller has stepped forward to try and make Neuromancer movie, according to THR. Gibson’s 1984 debut novel, ‘centers on Henry Dorsett Case, a disgraced computer hacker living in Japan who was punished for stealing from his employer by being rendered unable to access The Matrix, a worldwide virtual reality network. But he’s given a shot at getting back in the saddle when he is hired to complete the ultimate hack: one on an artificial intelligence orbiting Earth.’

Miller has already got various other movies in development since he left the Deadpool sequel over creative difference last October. It seems the Neuromance movie is in the early stages, as no writer has yet been hired. So don’t expect to see it for at least another couple of years.

Riz Ahmed In Talks To Star Opposite Tom Hardy In Venom

August 10, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sony is planning to expand its Spider-man universe with a Venom movie. They’ve made a good start by picking Tom Hardy for the central role, and now they’ve cast another excellent British actor in the movie.

Deadline reports that Riz Ahmed is in early talks to join the film. It’s not known exactly who he will play, but it is apparently a ‘popular Marvel Comics character’.

Venom is an alien symbiote that needs a human host to survive. He was introduced to movie audiences in Spider-man 3, but it left fans rather disappointed in how it was used and certainly didn’t leave viewers wanting more, despite how popular the character is in the Marvel comics. Not much has been revealed about the new film’s take on Venom, although it’s believed Hardy will play Eddie Brock, who becomes enmeshed with the symbiote. In the comics he’s generally been a supervillain, but it’s likely he’ll become more antihero for the new movie.

Rube Fleischer is set to direct the movie, which is currently due for release October 2018.

Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami Trailer – An in-depth look at the enigmatic gay icon

August 8, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s no one quite like Grace Jones, a singer, model and performance artist who has always defied expectations, and often seemed like a deliberate enigma. From the 1980s many haven’t known what to make of her, but with her bold look and sexuality, she became beloved by many gay men – something she has been more than happy to reciprocate.

Now a new documentary, Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami, is set to take a close look her. The first trailer has now arrived, which you can take a look at below.

The move will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, which writes, ‘Filmed over the course of a decade, the new documentary from director Sophie Fiennes (The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology) offers a stylish and unconventional look at the Jamaican-born model, singer, and New Wave icon.’

It’ll be out in the UK in October. [Read more…]

Milla Jovovich Will Be Getting Villainous In The Hellboy Reboot

August 8, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After battling with the advanced AI the White Queen in the Resident Evil movies, Milla Jovovich will be becoming a Blood Queen for the planned reboot of Hellboy. As that name suggests, she will be the villain of the piece.

She joins David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Hellboy, with Ian McShane recently signing on as the big, red demon’s protector and mentor, Professor Broom, and Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) in talks to direct. It also looks like the film may be called Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, as that was included in Deadline’s first version of their story about Jovovich’s casting, although it was hastily removed.

The movie should start shooting in September, so expect to see it sometime in 2018 or early 2019. Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) is set to direct from a script by Aron Coleite, Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.

mother! Trailer – Darren Aronofsky heads into horror territory with Jennifer Lawrence

August 8, 2017 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Darren Aronofsky (Noah, Black Swan) likes to make unusual films, and it seems his latest, mother! will follow that trend. This time around it looks like he’s going to be trying to scare us with something intense and a little bit weird. Jennifer Lawrence certainly doesn’t look like she’s having a good time.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. From filmmaker Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream), mother! stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer in this riveting psychological thriller about love, devotion and sacrifice.’

The movie is due in cinemas on September 15th. Take a look at the teaser below. [Read more…]

Indeed, it’s now achieved the very rare feat for an online show is preparing to release its sixth season. The Will & Grace Revival Has Already Been Renewed For A Second Season

August 7, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When it was announced earlier this year that Will & Grace was returning for a new season, it looked like it would probably be a one-off event. However, while they’ve only just started shooting the new episodes, a second new Will & Grace season featuring 13-more episodes has already been commissioned, while an additional four episode of the upcoming season have been added, bringing the total to 16.

It’s certainly a big turnaround from a year ago, where when talk first emerged of a revival follow a special mini online election episode, it appeared it was NBC who were the holdups. At the time they seemed unsure whether there was any life in the franchise. Instead they’ve found it’s already one of the most anticipated shows of the year.

Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Sean Hayes, and Megan Mullally are all returning – and it apparently took them all less than a minute to agree to reunite for a new season – and they are also now onboard for another season too. Will & Grace will be back on TV in the US on September 28th, and will hopefully be seen in other countries shortly afterwards.
