Trance Red Band Trailer – Going inside James McAvoy’s mind

February 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

trance-poster1It looks like Danny Boyle’s Trance is going to be a lot more gory than you might expect, especially if you know the premise, which sounds like a pretty standard thriller. However this new Red Band trailer shows us we’re going inside James McAvoy’s mind for some strange sights, where not even having half his head blown off can stop Vincent Cassel’s character.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Simon (James McAvoy), a fine art auctioneer, teams up with a criminal gang to steal a Goya painting worth millions of dollars, but after suffering a blow to the head during the heist he awakens to discover he has no memory of where he hid the painting. When physical threats and torture fail to produce answers, the gang’s leader Frank (Vincent Cassel) hires hypnotherapist Elizabeth Lamb (Rosario Dawson) to delve into the darkest recesses of Simon’s psyche. As Elizabeth begins to unravel Simon’s broken subconscious, the line between truth, suggestion, and deceit begin to blur.’ [Read more…]

New Jurassic Park 3D Poster Arrives

February 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jurassic-park-3d-poster2
Jurassic Park is returning to cinemas in 3D, with an April 5th US release set, while we in the UK will sadly have to wait until August 30th. Although the move to convert the film for an extra dimension has been controversial, I reckon it’s one of the few movie it might actually be worth doing it with.

Now a new poster has arrived, via Cine1, promoting the face that as well as 3D, it’ll also screen in IMAX cinemas.

Take a look above.

Peter Dinklage On For X-Men: Days of Future Past

February 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

peter-dinklagePeter Dinklage is fast on his way to becoming the first little person to become a mainstream international star, especially after winning a Golden Globe and Emmy for Game Of Thrones. Now he’s heading into superhero territory as Bryan Singer has tweeted that he’s joined the cast of X-Men: Days Of Future Past.

Singer says, “Officially like to welcome #PeterDinklage from #GameOfThrones to #XMEN #DaysofFuturePast Very very excited!”

Unfortunately there’s no news on who Dinklage will play in the movie, which will bring the First Class actors face-to-face with the future X-Men in a time-travelling plot. The Days Of Future Past comic book storyline sees the future under the control of the Sentinels and mutants living in internment camps. The X-Men of the past are warned about this, as well as the fact they can stop it happening if they prevent an assassination in their time.

First Class’ James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult are all set to return, with original X-Men Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore also back in the mutant fold.

A july 18th 2014 3D release has been set.

Ruben Fleischer Up For SpyHunter Videogame Adaptation

February 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ruben-fleisherRuben Fleischer’s Gangster Squad might not have lived up to the hype, but he’s moving forward by taking on a videogame adaptation, SpyHunter, with Deadline reporting that he’s signed up to direct, with Carter Blanchard writing the script.

SpyHunter started life as a 1980s arcade game before getting a reboot on the Playstation 2 back in 2001. A ‘vehicular combat’ game, the aim is for players drive around in supercars, blowing up bad guys and avoiding civilians. The most recent title in the franchise, Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run – which featured Dwayne Johnson, now less – was released in 2006.

It’s certainly not the first time Hollywood has thought about an adaptation, with the likes of John Woo and Paul W.S. Anderson previously attached – indeed the reason Dwayne Johnson was in Nowhere To Run was because he was meant to star in a movie version, although that idea was eventually canned.

Hopefully Zombieland helmer Fleischer will have more luck, although I wouldn’t be surprised if they wait to see how well Dreamworks driving game adaptation, Need For Speed, works out before deciding whether audiences will want to see this one.

End Of Watch’s David Ayer Feels Fury With A WWII Action Drama

February 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

david-ayerDavid Ayer got a lot of praise for End Of Watch, and later this year he’ll be bringing us Ten. He’s already lining up future projects though, as Deadline reports that QED International has just paid him $1 million for Fury, a World War II-set spec script that Ayer wrote and is now set to direct.

The film is set in 1945 as the Nazi regime collapses. It follows a five man American tank squadron who fight off the remainder of the German forces. Ayer says it will, “bring a fresh execution to the genre… What these men went through is worthy of a complex, honest portrayal. This will have incredible, visceral action and complex rich characters. I plan to bring tank combat to life in a way that lands with a modern audience.”

QED also backed Ten, so they must like what he’s doing with the movie, which stars Sam Worthington, Joe Manganiello, Terrence Howard and Mireille Enos. There’s no news on when we might get to see Fury.

Don Cheadle Puts On His Iron Patriot Armor In His Own Iron Man 3 Poster

February 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

iron-man-3-teaser-poster3Marvel Studios has released a brand new poster for Iron Man 3, which features Don Cheadle in his Iron Patriot armor. The actor returns to reprise his role as Colonel James Rhodes, a part he took over from Terrence Howard in Iron Man 2.

Although it hasn’t been revealed exactly how Iron Patriot fits into the plot, which sees Tony Stark going up against The Mandarin, in the comics, the character was actually Norman Osborn (aka Green Goblin), using a red, white and blue Iron Man suit to try and become a hero. Obviously he won’t be Osborn here (not least because that character is controlled by Sony for its Spider-man franchise), but instead becomes Rhodes.

Iron Man 3 hits cinemas on May 3rd.

Ruth Wilson Takes A Walk Among the Tombstones

February 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ruth-wilsonJust yesterday it was revealed that Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens had signed on to star opposite Liam Neeson in A Walk Among the Tombstones. Now the movie has a female lead, according to Variety, as Luther star Ruth Wilson has also joined the movie.

Neeson is set to play a former NYPD cop who now runs his own private investigation firm, which operates just outside the law in order to get results for his clients. He is hired by a drug dealer to find his kidnapped wife, which leads him to a dangerous crime ring that has committed multiple kidnappings – all of which have ended up with the death of the victim.

It isn’t known exactly who Wilson will play, although it could well be the kidnapping victim.

With two Brits and an Irishman cast, is this US set tale actually going to have any Americans in it?

MGM Rebooting Sci-fi Classic The Incredible Shrinking Man

February 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

incredible-shrinking-man-posterEver since its bankruptcy and reorganisation, MGM has being looking into the vault for film to remake or reimagine. Now it’s found another one as THR reports is taking on an updated version of the 1957 sci-fi classic, The Incredible Shrinking Man.

The original film was based on Richard Matheson’s 1956 novel (he also wrote the screenplay), and they’re kepping it in the family, as Matheson’s son, Richard Christian Matheson, will write the script for the new movie. The 50s version is about a man who is exposed to radiation and insecticide, which causes him to start shrinking, resulting in everything from cats to spiders becoming deadly perils.

The new version will be modernised to reflect advancements in nanotechnology, with the new take being described by the author as an “existential action movie.”

Richard Matheson commented, “My original story was a metaphor for how man’s place in the world was diminishing. That still holds today, where all these advancements that are going to save us will be our undoing. It’s one of those fantasy concepts that does not age.”

Monsters University Trailer – Mike and Sulley become rivals at college

February 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Mike and Sulley are back in Monsters University, although a bit younger than they were in Monsters Inc., as the new movie will follow them back in their university days, when they developed a bit of a rivalry – both want to be scarers, but while Mike is serious and studious, Sulley is a bit more freewheeling.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer. The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right.

‘Screaming with laughter and oozing with heart, Disney•Pixar’s “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”), produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”) and features music from future Rock-and-Roll-Hall-of-Fame–inductee and award winning composer Randy Newman (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Toy Story 3”). The film opens in UK. cinemas on July 12, 2013, and will be shown in Disney Digital 3D™ in select cinemas.’
