Mission: Impossible 5 Eyes Christopher McQuarrie To Direct

November 15, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When it was first announced, it sounded like Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol would be Tom Cruise’s last outing as Ethan Hunt, with the film handing over to a new team. However after it raked in just under $700 million worldwide and became Cruise’s action biggest hit ever, he’s been keen to do another one.

Now it seems Paramount is looking for a director, with Deadline reporting that writer-director Christopher McQuarrie is currently the top choice. Cruise and McQuarrie have a relationship that started with the 2008 historical drama Valkyrie, which Christopher McQuarrie wrote. Since then Tom has shot the upcoming Jack Reacher, which McQuarrie wrote and directed. The filmmaker has also provided uncredited rewrites for Tom Cruise movie such such as All You Need Is Kill and Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, so he really does seem a bit of a fave for the star.

Tom Cruise is producing the sequel alongside J.J. Abrams, but nothing will be fully official until Paramount and Skydance bring writers on board to craft the screenplay. There’s no timeframe known on when we might be able to expect the movie.

Benicio Del Toro Heads For Paradise Lost As Pablo Escobar

November 15, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I apologise to anyone who thought the above headline meant Alex Proyas’ awesome sounding take on John Milton’s Paradise Lost had been resurrected (that film still quite dead), as this is a very different movie, all about drug dealing.

Variety reports Benicio Del Toro is in final negotiations to play Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar in the true story drama Paradise Lost. This movie is about Nick, a young surfer who is visiting his brother in Colombia. He falls in love with a local girl named Maria, with all the elements in place for a classic romance. However, things take a dangerous turn when he finds out that Maria is the niece of notorious drug kingpin Pablo Escobar.

Italian actor Andrea Di Stefano (Life of Pi) wrote the screenplay and will make his directorial debut, with Dimitri Rassam set to produce. Production will begin next March in Panama.

Channing Tatum Is People’s Sexiest Man Alive 2012

November 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Channing Tatum

In what is perhaps the least surprising news this week, the hotly tipped Channing Tatum has been named People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive, taking over from last year’s winner ,Bradley Cooper (who was a more controversial pick, as many thought it ought to have gone to Ryan Gosling).

With Tatum having made us laugh in 21 Jump Street, gotten all romantic in The Vow and then made everybody very hot and bothered by bumping and grinding in his underwear in Magic Mike, it’s little surprise he topped the list. In fact, just Magic Mike would have been enough, but he really has had an exceptional year, scoring three hit movies, loads of fans and showing us more of his body than most actors would dare.

Channing commented, “My first thought was, ‘Y’all are messing with me.’ I told Jenna [his wife] after we’d been in the bathtub washing our dogs because they’d gotten skunked.

“She was like, ‘What?’

“Yeah, she calls me [the Sexiest Man Alive] now.”

He also reveals that he’s now thinking about starting a family, who’ll certainly get some good genes.

And to see more of Channing, check out our gallery of the guys from Magic Mike and of Tatum himself.

Help Complete Real Heroes, Where Avengers Meets Big Brother

November 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There are plenty of people around who are looking for funding for their movies, and the likes of Kickstarter and IndieGoGo are becoming increasingly popular ways to get that cash, particularly for gay filmmakers who may be shut out of more traditional funding sources. One man who’s doing just that is Kevin Hartman’s, who’s following up his very gay movie You Should Meet My Son with Real Heroes.

The film have already been shot, but now Hartman is looking for $35,000 on Kickstarter to help fund the post-production expenses. So what’s it all about? Well, it sees superheroes being put in a reality TV house together. Here’s the synopsis: ‘This is the story of B-string superheroes hoping to hit the big time. The guys you’ve never heard of. The ones who go out every night fighting crime and hoping that someone will notice. The ones who are desperate enough to go on a reality show.

‘This is the story of a Sable, a single mom trying to juggle crime fighting, a moody teenage daughter, and a waitressing job. Of Big Shot, a macho marksman who can’t get over the breakup with his former sidekick. Of Malibu Action Girl, a spoiled rich kid determined to prove that she’s more than the sum of daddy’s expensive weapons. Of Water Warrior, a hunky hero trying to sleep his way to the top. Of Rick & Josh, former teen superheroes trying to put their past behind them. Of Psychic Sam and the Vixen and many more.

‘This is a look behind the mask, at the real lives of superheroes.’

Hartman hopes to use the cash to complete editing, colour correction, sound mixing, and music, as well as adding possible special effects. There’s even the possibility of a series of short film based on the characters.

And of course with this being Kickstarter, there are numerous rewards available depending on how much you pledge. So head over and take a look, or go to the film’s website.

Red Lodge Trailer – Take a look at the gay-themed Christmas film

November 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If you want to make you festive season a little more gay, perhaps you could get hold of a copy of Red Lodge, which is now available in the US through the likes of Amazon & Circa 87. With Xmas just over a month away, we thought it was a good time to take a look at the trailer for the festive film.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Jordan proposes to his boyfriend Dave. The offer of marriage is accepted, and then quickly rejected – all in the days leading up to Christmas…with the family. Jordan must process his emotions during the happiest (if most distracting) time of the year. Adding to the distraction is his distant, adopted younger sister, her bio-technical engineering boyfriend, and his over-the-top, opinionated (and often inebriated) aunt. Jordan hasn’t broken up with his boyfriend. They simply haven’t discussed the issues between them.’

It looks like it could be a fun film, with humour and a bit of a social message behind it.

Apropos Of Nothing: 1995 Gay Guinness Ad Goes Viral

November 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Nowadays having gay people in adverts is rare but certainly not unheard of (for example Lloyds TSB has recently been trumpeting the addition of a gay couple to their ads featuring weird looking CGI people), but back in 1995 it was seen as so controversial that a Guinness ad featuring two gay men wasn’t just pulled before it aired, but the company even went so far as to deny it ever existed.

Now the ad has gone viral, giving us a look at what could have been. The commercial has been seen by thousands since a report on it went live recently on Ad Respect, which looked at why it was banned. They say, ‘Artfully shot with the help of maverick California-based British producer Tony Kaye, the UK tabloid press widely reported the planned ad before it aired, to much scandal. Pubs and consumers were shocked that the traditional brand would air a gay ad.

‘Fearing greater backlash by straight consumers, the TV spot was ultimately dropped by Guinness. Later, the company tried to deny that this spot even existed.“There was a desire by the agency and Guinness to have a certain ambiguity about it,” Kaye told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. in 1997 about the ad he created. “So that when you watch the spot, you said, ‘Well are these guys gay or not?’ These guys are gay — the storytelling, to me, needed him to give the other guy a little peck on the cheek.”

‘When asked why the company would deny the existence of the ad he shot, Kaye offered, “Most of them have the vision of a dead rat. I think it was charming and it was very funny and would sell a hell of a lot of beer.”

It’s certainly a rather sweet ad and it’s a shame it never aired, although in 1995 it would have definitely been a surprise to many to see two men give each other a peck on the cheek in an advert. It doesn’t hurt either that both men ad very good looking. Take a look at it above.

Man Withdraws Underage Sex Claim Against Elmo Puppeteer Kevin Clash

November 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of days ago the somewhat surprisingly news came out that an unnamed 23-year-old man had claimed that he’d had an illegal underage sexual relationship when he was 16 with Kevin Clash, the man who’s voiced and been the puppeteer of Elmo for nearly 30 years.

Now the man has withdrawn those allegation, vindicating Clash’s claims that while he had indeed been intimate with the man, it had been perfectly legal (it hadn’t publicly been known before that Kevin is gay). When the allegation was made, Clash said that he was ‘deeply saddened that he [the accuser] is trying to make it into something it was not.’

The man’s lawyer has now released a statement to the LA Times, saying their client ‘now wants it to be known that his sexual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult consensual relationship. He will have no further comment on the matter.’

When the allegations came to light, Clash revealed he was taking a leave of absence from Sesame Street in order to try and clear him name. He’s been able to do that perhaps faster than he was expecting, but it’s not known when he might be going back to work. His only comment on being cleared has been to People, who he told, ‘I am relieved that this painful allegation has been put to rest. I will not discuss it further.’

The producers of the TV sounded supportive of Kevin when the claims were made, so hopefully he’ll be back to playing Elmo soon.

Oz The Great & Powerful Full Trailer – Sam Raimi’s flick is looking incredibly fantastical

November 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

As we were promised when the full banner poster for Oz the Great And Powerful was revealed yesterday, a new full trailer for the movie has now been released. It’s certainly wants to suggest this is going to be a fantastical, incredible looking movie, and as many have said, there’s more than a hint that Disney would like us to think of this as the new Alice In Wonderland.

It also interesting that they’ve kept the far distance looking oddly flat, which is presumably a nod to the pretty but painted on backgrounds of the classic 1939 Wizard Of Oz. However what’s more difficult to tell is whether the story is strong enough to compete with the visuals, and also whether the human characters can be fully integrated into a world that’s so reliant on special effects. We’ll have to keep out fingers crossed.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.’

It’s due out March 8th 2013.

The Canyons Teaser Trailer – Lindsay Lohan & James Deen ham it up

November 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When you see the acting in this new teaser trailer, you may be wondering what sort of dreadful rubbish this is, but the hamminess is very deliberate, with the vlack & white photography giving this a hint that this a take on cheesy 1950s b-movie noir melodrama, but with a more modern take on sex and relationships.

As the trailer points out, it was partly funded by Kickstarter, but while that’s a platform that usually reserved for unknown filmmakers, this one if directed by Paul Schrader (screenwriter of Taxi Driver),with a script by American Psycho’s Brett Easton Ellis. They went to Kickstarter as they were afraid of the type of censorship traditional funding normally demands.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The Canyons is a contemporary L.A. noir from director Paul Schrader, writer Bret Easton Ellis, and producer Braxton Pope about the dangers of sexual obsession and ambition, both personally and professionally, among a group of young people in their 20′s and how one chance meeting connected to the past unravels all of their lives, resulting in deceit, paranoia, cruel mind games and ultimately violence.’

Lindsay Lohan stars opposite James Deen – a man who made his name in hardcore porn but is now going legit.

The Host Trailer & Poster – Take a look at the Stephenie Meyer adaptation

November 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Twilight comes to an end this week with the release of Breaking Dawn Part 2, and so it’s a good time to launch the full length trailer for the next Stephenie Meyer adaptation, The Host, which is due to hit UK cinemas March 2013.

In The Host, our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. Most of humanity has succumbed, including Soarise Ronan’s main character, Melanie Stryder. However while normally the human is completely subdued by their host, in Melanie’s case, her personality flashes through, intriguing her Host, known as Wanda, and setting them off on a quest to find the last free humans. Ronan, Jake Abel, Max Irons and William Hurt star in the movie.

It’s difficult to see this taking over the world the way Twlight has, but it does look like it might be entertaining.
