Juno Temple & Joe Anderson Have Horns

September 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Juno Temple (The Dark Knight Rises), Joe Anderson (The Crazies) and Kelli Garner (The Aviator) are the latest actors to board the supernatural fantasy/thriller Horns, according to Variety. They join the already cast Daniel Radcliffe and Max Minghella.

Based on the best-selling novel by Joe Hill, Horns is set to be directed by Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D) from a screenplay by Keith Bunin (In Treatment). The movie is a supernatural thriller that follows Ig Perrish (Radcliffe), the number one suspect for the violent rape and murder of his girlfriend, Merrin (Temple).

Hungover from a night of hard drinking, Ig awakens one morning to find horns starting to grow from his own head and soon realises their power drives people to confess their sins and give in to their most selfish and unspeakable impulses – an effective tool in his quest to discover the true circumstances of his late girlfriend’s tragedy and for exacting revenge on her killer.

The widely acclaimed book was on the New York Times best seller list for six weeks, and has become an international bestseller. Principal photography is slated to begin this fall.

Al Pacino Takes On Joe Paterno Biopic

September 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While Al Pacino often seems to be phoning it in these days, he’s now attached to role he may be able to really sink his teeth into, playing former Penn State University football coach Joe Paterno, based on Joe Posnanski’s biography, Paterno.

The book delve’s into the coach’s life before becoming PSU’s head football coach back in 1966, the influence he had over the school, and his eventual downfall after last year’s scandal that rocked the entire college football community. Jerry Sandusky, Penn State’s defensive coordinator, was revealed as a pedophile who sexually assaulted young boys for decades. Joe Paterno was fired after 46 years at the school, for his role in trying to cover up and ignore the scandal. He died in January at the age of 85.

At the moment the project could be developed for either a feature film or a TV movie, although it isn’t known if a screenwriter has been brought on board to adapt the non-fiction book. (Source: Deadline)

Song For Marion Trailer – Terence Stamp gets grumpy with Gemma Arterton

September 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ahead of its debut as the London Film Festival, the trailer for Song For Marion has arrived. The film is a London-set comedic drama about grumpy pensioner Arthur (Terence Stamp) who is reluctantly inspired by his beloved wife Marion (Vanessa Redgrave) to join a highly unconventional local choir. At odds with his son James (Christopher Eccleston), it is left to choir director Elizabeth (Gemma Arterton) to try and persuade Arthur that he can learn to embrace life. Arthur must confront the undercurrents of his own grumbling persona as he embarks on a hilarious, life-affirming journey of musical self discovery. It may not be the most exciting sounding premise, but the cast is great and the trailer certainly make it seem worth a look.

Vin Diesel May Be The Last Witch Hunter

September 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of years ago Lionsgate snapped up a pitch for The Last Witch Hunter, which had Timur Bekmambetov attached to direct and produce. Since then it’s been all-change, with Bekmambetov stepping down from the director’s chair and getting replaced by The Crazies helmer Breck Eisner.

Now The Wrap reports that Vin Diesel is in talks to star in the movie which, as the title suggests, is about ‘one of the last remaining witch hunters, who is charged with discouraging a group of witches and warlocks from reproducing.’

Cory Goodman came up with the story and is on scripting duties. There’s no deal in place yet for Diesel to star, but he’s in talks, and assuming all works out, this one will go on his list. There’s no news on when it might shoot though.

Ti West Takes On The Sacrament For Producer Eli Roth

September 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ti West has garnered a bit of a horror fanbase thanks to Cabin Fever 2, The House of the Devil and The Innkeepers (although West disowned Cabin Fever 2, due to the lack of control he had over it). Now he’s teaming up with the director of the original Cabin Fever, Eli Roth, for The Sacrament, according to Variety.

Roth will produce the movie with West down to direct. Unfortunately though, there’s no info on the plot or the cast, but the plan is to shoot it in Georgia later this year.

While West’s movies have found relatively small scale success, it seems this movie is being geared for a bigger audience, with Roth saying, ‘We want to make this Ti’s first mainstream movie, without sacrificing the quality and unflinching horror of the subject matter.’

Chris Evans & Michelle Monaghan Have A Many Splintered Thing

September 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Chris Evans may be gearing up to don the red, white and blue again for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which starts shooting in January, but he’s still looking to projects outside the Marvel universe, and has signed up for the ‘anti romantic-comedy’, A Many Splintered Thing.

Michelle Monaghan have has also signed up for the film, which Deadline describes as a being in the vein of Amelie and (500) Days of Summer. The story follows a young man (Evans) who falls in love with an engaged woman (Monaghan) while pretending to be a philanthropist at a charity dinner. Not letting her beau stand in his way and encouraged by his friends, the man feigns a platonic relationship in order to keep seeing her as he tries to conquer her heart.

Justin Reardon is set to direct based on the Black Listed script by Chris Shafer and Paul Vicknair. It isn’t clear when it might shoot.

Pike And Plummer Join Pegg In Hector & The Search For Happiness

September 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A while ago, Simon Pegg signed up to star in Hector & The Search For Happiness, for director Peter Chelsom. Now he’s got some co-stars as Variety reports that Rosamund Pike and Simon Pegg have signed up to appear in the movie.

The movie is an adaptation of Francis Lelord’s novel, which centres on a London psychiatrist, who goes on a global quest when his patients can’t find happiness. Pike will play the role of Clara, Hector’s long-term girlfriend, while Plummer is attached as Professor Coreman, a leading guru for Happiness Studies at UCLA.

Pike is also starring alongside Pegg in The World’s End, so hopefully the two of them get along well.

Michael Keaton Set to Direct Buttercup

September 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Actor Michael Keaton has signed up to direct his second feature film with the dramatic comedy Buttercup, according to Variety. The film follows his helming debut, the 2008 indie The Merry Gentleman.

The movie is about a woman who is forced to take care of her elderly father, after he is arrested yet again for drunken driving. She comes to terms with his issues, and slowly begins to trust the other men in her life. The title refers to her childhood nickname.

Keaton replaces Niki Caro at the helm. Jennifer Aniston and Alan Arkin were previously attached to star, although they are no longer involved. Casting is currently under way, although Keaton will have to fit that around the role he recently took in MGM’s RoboCop remake.

Bruce Willis Up For American Assassin

September 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Bruce Willis is in talks to join the cast of American Assassin for director Jeffrey Nachmanoff, according to Variety. The film will be adapted from the Vince Flynn novel of the same name, which centres on Mitch Rapp, a young man who joins the CIA after his girlfriend dies in a terrorist attack.

Bruce Willis will play a CIA agent who mentors Rapp. The book is the 11th in Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp series, although this story goes back to the beginning, showing how he first became involved with the covert agency.

Jeffrey Nachmanoff is directing from a screenplay by Mike Finch. We reported in February that he is taking over from Edward Zwick, who adapted the book with Marshall Herskovitz. Shooting is scheduled to begin in the autumn of 2013, so they’re certainly planning ahead by getting Willis now.
