Brad Pitt’s Mom Is Against Gay Marriage!

July 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Brad Pitt is well known as one of the biggest proponents of LGBT equality in Hollywood, and previously stated he wouldn’t get married to Angelina Jolie until the right was extended to all couples (although more recently they decided to get hitched anyway). However it appears his mother may not share his sentiments.

Pitt’s mum, Jane, wrote a letter to her local Springfield, Missouri newspaper, the News Leader (which confirmed it was indeed her and not someone using her name), outlining her opposition to President Obama, including his support for equal marriage.

In trying to argue that Christians should vote for Mitt Romney, even though he’s a Mormon, she writes, “Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney’s opponent, Barack Hussein Obama – a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage.”

At least her son doesn’t share those sentiments.

‘Where The Bears Are’ Web Series Hitting In August

July 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Creating a web series is becoming an increasingly popular way for those looking to get their work to the public outside the controlling hand of big media. It’s even better for those working in low budget areas where getting financing and distribution by traditional methods can be incredibly tough.

That seems to be the philosophy behind Where The Bears Are, a gay mystery web series that’s due to hit the internet in August. Created by a group of film and TV veterans, they decided not to have the door of Hollywood continually slammed in their face while seeking funding. Instead they went out and did it all themselves, simply buying an HD camera and getting the job done.

From the creative team of Rick Copp (The Brady Bunch Movie) Joe Dietl (The Thin Pink Line) and Ben Zook (Jack and Jill), Where the Bears Are is a comedy mystery web series. Copp describes it as, “This is basically The Golden Girls meets Murder, She Wrote about three bears living together in Silver Lake in Los Angeles, who attempt to solve the murder of a party guest that turned up dead in their bathroom.”

The series consists of 26 four-minute episodes, with the mystery eventually reaching its climax in the desert outside of Palm Springs. Featuring guest appearances by Bruce Daniels, Tuc Watkins, Jackie Beat, and Shawn Pelofsky, the series is designed to appeal to both gay and straight audiences alike, and will premiere online August 1st, 2012 at wherethebearsare.tv.

July 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

X-Men director Bryan Singer has been busy working on Jack The Giant Killer, which is due out March 2013, but the gay helmer has also found time to produce H+ The Digital Series, a 48-part sci-fi show, offering over three hours of entertaining, which will be released online, starting August 8th.

H+ takes viewers on an episodic, apocalyptic journey into the future where consumers are rapidly installing a chip called H+ into their nervous systems that allows them to access the Internet 24 hours a day – by just thinking it. One day, a virus is released – causing a third of the world’s population to die instantly. The series deals with the massive political and human changes that take place, the fight for survival and the mystery to discover who is behind this atrocity.

The series is directed by Stewart Hendler (Sorority Row), and stars an acclaimed international cast that includes Alexis Denisof (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Amir Arison (Law & Order: SVU) and David Clayton Rogers (Jane By Design). Bryan Singer comments, “Our first venture into the digital space gives us the freedom to engage fans with new content that is immersive, interactive and is tailored to be enjoyed online, H+ The Digital Series on YouTube provides us with a strong two-way dialogue with our fans, creating a deeper and ongoing connection.”

Amazing Spider-man Confirmed As A Trilogy

July 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Several months ago Sony announced that they were already working on a sequel to The Amazing Spider-man, and now, with the reboot making mega-bucks around the globe, they’ve confirmed this will be the first part of a trilogy.

The movie was confirmed in a Facebook post, which says, ‘It’s finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first instalment in a movie trilogy that will explore how our fave hero’s journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents.’

That seems to be a response to those who wondered what happened to the ‘Untold Story’ promised in the marketing materials. It appears a much larger part of the plot was originally about Peter’s parents and also added the idea that Peter didn’t get superpowers only because of being bitten by a spider. Many of these ideas appeared prominently in trailers and clips, but were cut from the final movie. However the Facebook post suggests that at least some of these threads will return in the planned trilogy.

The Hobbit Movies Wrap Principal Photography

July 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Hobbit has been a bit of an epic shoot, but after 266 days in front of the camera, Peter Jackson has announced that production has wrapped. That doesn’t mean the work is over, as there’s a hell of a lot of editing and special effects work to be completed.

He also posted a set photo featuring himself behind a clapboard, which you can seen above, and posted the following message, “We made it! Shoot day 266 and the end of principal photography on The Hobbit. Thanks to our fantastic cast and crew for getting us this far, and to all of you for your support! Next stop, the cutting room. Oh, and Comic Con! Cheers, Peter J”

Now we just need to wait until December 26th for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, while There And Back Again will arrive a year later.

First Image Of Matt Damon In Elysium Surfaces

July 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Matt Damon is rocking the shaved head look and showing off his oversized gun (really, that thing is ridiculous) in the first image from Elysium, which The Playlist has scanned from the latest issue of EW. The movie is Neill Blomkamp’s long-awaited follow-up to District 9, and stars Damon alongside Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Wagner Moura, William Fichtner, Sonia Braga, and Diego Luna.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.’ The film’s currently due out March, 2013.

Teaser Poster For Oz The Great & Powerful Unveiled

July 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

As a non Sam Raimi Spider-man swings into cinemas, Disney has decided it’s time to reveal the first poster for the director’s latest effort, Oz The Great And Powerful, which follows the ‘Wizard’ (James Franco), before he made it to the Emerald City.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.’

The film is due out March 2013. (There are rumours the first footage may pop up online next week to coincide with Comic-Con, but we’ll have to wait and see if that happens).

My Night With Andrew Cunanan Short Film Trailer

July 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Here’s a short that could be interesting It’s based on the true story of a man who ended up becoming involved with Andrew Cunanan, the gay serial killer who went on a cross-country killing spree that ended with the murder of Gianni Versace and Cunanan’s suicide. A docudrama crime thriller based on real life events in San Francisco in 1997, where one young gay drunken man encounters Cunanan days before he would begin the spree that earned him the dubious honour of being the youngest serial killer on the FBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted list. Could one decision made during that encounter have prevented the murder of five men? This cautionary tale invites us to consider whether fate can be changed by exploring ‘What if…?’ The film has already screened at several festivals, and will be seen at more in the coming months. You can find out more about it at the film’s official site.
