New Three Stooges Trailer – Pratfall madness

March 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It took a while for the Farrelly Brothers to get their Three Stooges movie off the ground, and this trailer suggests why, as it’s a risky mix of biopic and zany comedy, and brings the Stooges right up into the modern day. You’ll have to take a look below to see if you feel stooge type comedy works when it’s about iPhones, but Sean Hayes, Will Sasso and Chris Diamantopoulis sure look like they’re having fun. It really makes you wonder what it would have been like when Larry, Curly & Moe were set to be played by Jim Carrey, Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro. It hits cinemas May 4th.

Great New Prometheus Wallpapers Online

March 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Two new Prometheus wallpapers have debuted via a viral campaign at ProjectPromethueus.com. One shows the spaceship Prometheus itself, while the other appears to be from the loading bay of the Prometheus once it’s landed. They’re both very cool pics and suggest that Ridley Scott hasn’t lost his touch with creating wonderful looking sci-fi.

Martin Campbell Will Take The Dive

March 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With his love of everything underwater, James Cameron has long wanted to make The Dive, but with Avatar sequels taking up all his time for the next few years, he’s handed the reins on the movie to Casino Royale and Green Lantern director Martin Campbell, according to Deadline.

J. Michael Straczynski is writing the script, which tells the tragic love story of freediver Francisco Ferraras and his wife Audrey Mestre. It follows two pre-eminent free-divers who, with only a single breath of air in their lungs, plunge to unimaginable depths before swimming back to the surface. Sadly though, Audrey Mestre died during an attempt to better her own world record.

Cameron will still produce the film with his Lightstorm team, which will presumably use the 3D cameras he developed for Avatar.

Abigail Breslin Joins Halle Berry In The Hive

March 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Believe it or not, but Oscar-nominee Abigail Breslin is nearly 16-years-old (yep, Little Miss Sunshine was nearly seven years ago now!). However she’s still one of the best young actresses around and she’s now boarded the thriller, The Hive, joining Halle Berry who signed up for Brad Anderson’s movie earlier this month.

The film is about an emergency call centre operator who is forced to confront a killer from her past in order to save a young girl’s life. Halle Berry is playing the 911 operator while Breslin will be the endangered girl. The project is based on an original idea by writers Richard D’Ovidio, Nicole D’Ovidio, and Jon Bokencamp.

Director Brad Anderson commented on the latest casting, “Abigail is always wonderful playing vulnerable characters so I feel really lucky to have her for this role.” (Source: Variety)

New Version Of 1984 In The Works

March 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although 1984 was 26 years ago now, the themes of George Orwell’s classic novel are as prescient as ever, and as a result Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment is planning a new film version of the book, according to THR.

The novel takes place in a dystopian society that’s in a perpetual state of war. Winston Smith works for a government branch called the Ministry of Truth, where he alters facts and histories but secretly harbors desires of rebellion (as well as hoping for a forbidden love affair). The project is still in early development and it isn’t known what changes might be made, not least if the title and year will be altered.

The book was last made into a movie in 1984 itself, starring John Hurt, Richard Burton and Suzanna Hamilton.

Toni Collette & Danny Huston Join Making of Psycho

March 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Just yesterday, we reported that Jessica Biel had joined the cast of Sacha Gervasi’s Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, and now Variety reports that Toni Collette, Danny Huston, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Michael Wincott are in talks as well.

As the title suggests, the movie is about famed director Alfred Hitchcock (Anthony Hopkins) as he struggles to create his 1960 horror classic Psycho, which despite his stature in movie world, was a tough project he got little support for before its release. Helen Mirren is also onboard as Hitchcock’s wife, Alma, while Scarlet Johansson and James D’Arcy will be Psycho stars Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins.

Toni Collette will play Peggy Robertson, the director’s longtime assistant, while Danny Huston is portraying Whitfield Cook, a friend of the Hitchcock’s wife. Michael Stuhlbarg will play Alfred’s agent, the legendary Lew Wasserman, while Michael Wincott will be Ed Gein, the famed killer whose exploits Psycho is partially based on.

Production is due to begin in the next few months.

Brett Ratner Directing Midnight Run 2

March 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Maybe Midnight Run is considered a bit more of a classic in the US, or perhaps Robert De Niro just likes it, but whatever the reason, for the past couple of years an extremely belated sequel has been in the works. The latest news is that Brett Ratner is in talks to helm Midnight Run 2, according to Deadline.

The studio has also hired the writing team of David Elliot and Paul Lovett (Four Brothers) to rewrite the script, taking over from Timothy Dowling wrote the original draft. Robert De Niro will return as bounty hunter Jack Walsh from Midnight Run. However it isn’t known exactly what he’ll get up to this time around, or if the original’s other main star, Charles Grodin, will return as Jonathan Mardukas. Back in 2010 Grodin was said to be considering a return to acting so he could play ‘The Duke’ once more, but it’s not know if he will come out of retirement for the gig.

It’s not known either when it might shoot (or indeed why they’re bothering with a Midnight Run sequel in the first place, as the 1988 flick wasn’t all that good to begin with).

Paramount Revisiting Huck & Tom, But Adding The Supernatural

March 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If America has any truly hallowed literary creations it’s Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. However Hollywood doesn’t feel they ought to be preserved in aspic, and it seems they want to Sherlock Holmes them right up for a short attention span 21st Century audience. Paramount Pictures has acquired writer Andy Burg’s spec screenplay, Huck and Tom, which puts a new spin on the classic Mark Twain characters.

The storyline is being kept largely under wraps, although THR says the script focuses on Huck and Tom as adults, and it is said there will be supernatural aspects as well. I’m sure you’ll agree that what this quintessential piece of Americana needed was some supernatural elements. The project is being likened to Snow White and the Huntsman, which puts a fresh spin on the classic Snow White fairy tale.

The characters first appeared in Mark Twain’s 1876 novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and have been a number of TV and film adaptations over the years, although it doesn’t sound like any of them will be quite like this.

Jake Kasdan Is Making A Sex Tape

March 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jake Kasdan had a big success last year with Bad Teacher, and now it appear his next move will be to make a sex tape with Jason Segel, and possibly Reese Witherspoon too. Variety reports Kasdan has signed on to helm Sex Tape, taking over from Nick Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marchall), who was previously attached to direct, before bowing out due to scheduling conflicts.

The movie is about a married couple who decide to spice up their love life by making a sex tape. Unfortunately for them, they discover the next morning that the tape has gone missing and so go on a mad dash to recover it.

Last October offers went out to Jason Segel and Reese Witherspoon to star. Variety confirms that Jason Segel is attached to star, although Reese Witherspoon isn’t mentioned, so it’s possible she may no longer be involved. The project is said to be a high priority at Sony, although it isn’t known when production may begin.

David O’Russell Attached To American Bullsh*t

March 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It sometimes feels pointless reporting on the movies David O’Russell says he’s going to direct, as he comes and goes from an almost ridiculous amount of films. However Variety reports that he’s just attached himself to American Bullshit for Sony Pictures and Atlas Entertainment.

Eric Singer (The International) wrote the screenplay, which centres on a con artist who goes to work for the FBI to bust open a wide-ranging conspiracy case, which reaches from Washington D.C. to Atlantic City.

It isn’t known when production may begin on American Bullshit, which will almost certainly get a name change at some point, as it’s tough to imagine a studio release the film with the title intact. David O. Russell is currently in post-production on his latest project, The Silver Linings Playbook, which is set for release this autumn. It’s not know what movie he’ll make after that, but American Bullshit is now in the mix.
