Johnny Depp In Talks To Star In The Secret Life Of Houdini

May 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

johnny-deppIn the past few years there have been several movies about Harry Houdini in the works, but they’ve all been stuck in development hell. Now one of them is moving forwards as THR reports that Johnny Depp is in talks to play the title role in The Secret Life Of Houdini.

The movie has had numerous directors since it was first mooted in 2009, such as Jeff Nathanson, Gary Ross and Joe Wright, but it’s now got Dean Parisot (Red) set to helm.

The film ‘which is said to be in the vein of Indiana Jones, recasts Houdini as not just a master escape artist but an investigator of the world of the occult’.

The Secret Life Of Houdini is based on a book written by William Kalush and Larry Sloman, with a script by Noah Oppenheim, which claims that world-famous magician Harry Houdini also led a double life as a British spy. The book also goes deep into his world of magic and mystery, as well as how his legacy was later threatened by a group of fanatical Spiritualists led by esteemed British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Depp’s involvement seems dependent on when the fifth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie will shoot. Johnny is currently shooting Black Mass and then moves onto Through The Looking Glass. Lionsgate would want want Houdini to come next, kicking off its shoot in November, but that would mean Pirates can’t get underway until 2015.

New Guardians Of The Galaxy Trailer – Chris Pratt and co. get into a massive space opera

May 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Post by Guardians of the Galaxy.

As promised, Marvel has released a new trailer for Guardians Of The Galaxy, and it’s looking good. Thankfully along with the vast amounts of special effects, it seems like the film will have a sense of humour.

And if you’re wondering what Rocket Raccoon and Groot sound like, this is the trailer for you.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

‘Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which first appeared in comic books in Marvel Super-Heroes, Issue #18 (Jan. 1969). James Gunn is the director of the film with Kevin Feige producing, and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jeremy Latcham, Alan Fine and Stan Lee serve as executive producers. The story is by Nicole Perlman and James Gunn, with screenplay by James Gunn. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” releases in UK cinemas on August 1, 2014.’ [Read more…]

Interstellar Trailer – Matthew McConaughey is heading into space for Christopher Nolan

May 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

So far the promotion of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar has been pretty low key, as while the loose plot details we’ve had have suggested a big space adventure, the marketing has been pretty earthbound.

That’s true of the beginning of this trailer – but things aren’t going very well for the planet. So it’s time to send Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway into space!

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Directed and co-written by Christopher Nolan (“Inception,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy), the production will travel the globe and utilize a mixture of 35mm anamorphic and IMAX film photography to bring to the screen a script based on the combination of an original idea by Nolan and an existing script by Jonathan Nolan, originally developed for Paramount Pictures and producer Lynda Obst. The new script chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.

‘“Interstellar” features a prestigious cast that includes Matthew McCaughey (“Magic Mike,” “Mud”), Academy Award® winner Anne Hathaway (“Les Miserables,” “The Dark Knight Rises”), Academy Award® nominee Jessica Chastain (“Zero Dark Thirty,” “The Tree of Life”), Bill Irwin (“Rachel Getting Married,” TV’s “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”), Academy Award® nominee John Lithgow (“Terms of Endearment,” “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”), Academy Award® nominee Casey Affleck (“The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Gone Baby Gone”), David Gyasi (“Cloud Atlas”), Wes Bentley (“The Hunger Games”), Mackenzie Foy (“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Parts 1 and 2”), Timothée Chalamet (TV’s “Homeland”), Topher Grace (“Spider-Man 3”), David Oyelowo (“Jack Reacher,” “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”), Academy Award® winner Ellen Burstyn (“The Last Picture Show,” “The Exorcist”), and Academy Award® winner Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy).’

The film’s due out in November. [Read more…]

The Flash Extended Trailer – Grant Gustin goes fast (and shirtless)

May 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yj0l7iGKh8g

One of the most anticipated shows starting this autumn on TV is The Flash, starring Grant Gustin as the classic DC Comics character. We’ve already met his alter-ego Barry Allen in Arrow, but now we can have our first taste of the actual show with an extended five-minute trailer.

In Arrow we saw Allen have an accident that mixed lightning with science, but since then he’s been in a coma. However when he wakes up he realises that he’s the fastest man in the world, and becomes the superhero – The Flash.

You’ll also be pleased to see that while it may be more fantastical than Arrow, it hasn’t dispensed with getting the guys to take their shirts off (and after all, isn’t that the most important thing?).

Take a look at the trailer above and look out for the show this autumn. [Read more…]

First Look At Addison Timlin, Jeremy Irvine & Harrison Gilbertson In Fallen

May 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fallen-pic1While in the last few years young adult adaptations have proven a more miss than hit affair, the fact they often don’t cost a huge amount to make but have potentially massive rewards means Hollywood is still very keen on them.

One that’s coming sometime in 2015 is Fallen, which features a very attractive cast including Addison Timlin, Jeremy Irvine & Harrison Gilbertson – and now we get our first look at them with the pic above. It certainly doesn’t seem to be shying away from potential Twilight comparisons.

The film is based on Lauren Kate’s young adult supernatural fantasy novel about an alienated teen girl, Luce Price (Timlin), who is drawn to the mysterious and aloof Daniel Grigori (Irvine) from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in Savannah, Georgia. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch their every move.

Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce, she can’t let go and has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret. As secrets unfurl, it becomes clear Daniel may not be what he appears, and there could be a reason he seems so familiar. Harrison Gilbertson plays Cameron ‘Cam’ Briel, a bad boy who also has a dark secret.

Scott Hicks (The Lucky One) is directing from a screenplay co-written by author Lauren Kate, Nichole Millard and Kathryn Price. It isn’t clear when it will shoot.

And just in case you were wondering if Jeremy Irvine really was looking that hot, I’ve included a close-up below. [Read more…]

Glee’s Chris Colfer To Play Gay Writer Noel Coward, With Ian McKellen Starring Too

May 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

chris-colferIt’s going to be a gay old time on the set of Noel this summer, with Chris Colfer and Ian McKellen teaming up for a biopic of the legendary Noel Coward. Vanessa Redgrave and Jonathan Pryce will also star, according to Screen Daily.

The film will follow Coward’s early life and inspirations, which led him to become the famously flamboyant raconteur and writer behind plays like Blithe Spirit, Private Lives and Hayfever, scripts such as Brief Encounter and songs like Mad Dogs And Englishmen. He was also an actor, perhaps most famously playing Mr. Bridger in The Italian Job.

Coward was gay, although as with most people of his era (he lived from 1899 to 1973) this was never mentioned while he was alive, although it was obvious and even Noel himself once observed ‘There are still a few old ladies in Worthing who don’t know.’ He also encouraged his secretary to write a frank biography which was to be published after he died.

This will be set before all that, although are no exact details on what period of his life the movie will cover. Colfer takes the role of Coward (let’s hope he’s been practicing his posh English actor, as Noel had a very distinctive voice), but it’s now known who McKellen, Redgrave and Pryce will be.

Martin Sherman wrote the script, who has a good pedigree with gay-themed project, having written Bent. Joe Stephenson (Chicken) will direct.

Channing Tatum Is Confirmed As Gambit In X-Men: Apocalypse

May 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

channing-tatum-vanity-fair2-thumbA couple of months ago Channing Tatum suggested he’d really like to play Gambit in the X-Men universe. Well it turns out he was just musing about something that would never happen, as producer Lauren Shuler Donner has confirmed the actor will take on the role in X-Men: Apocalypse.

That’s bad news for Taylor Kitsch, who played Remy LeBeau, aka Gambit, in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, especially as at the time Wolverine was seen as a ways to introduce the character for a possible standalone movie.

Producer Lauren Shuler Donner let the news slip to Total Film, saying, “Well you know he’s a rogue, Channing. He’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau, and he can handle the action, we all know that. He’s got a really good heart, because I know him personally, I did a movie with him. So I think he’ll be great, he’ll be great for Gambit, and he’s a southerner too, he’s not from New Orleans but he is a southerner and he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans.

Director Bryan Singer had previously suggested Apocalypse will feature both Gambit and Nightcrawler, although it’s not known whether Alan Cumming will be back in the latter role. However there won’t be as many of the cast from the original film trilogy as in Days Of Future Past, with Apocalypse concentrating slightly more on the First Class mutants. The movie is due out in 2016.
