New Ant-Man Poster Makes The Paul Rudd’s Little Hero Big

May 31, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ant-Man-Poster1With Avengers: Age Of Ultron having already grossed $1.3 billion, Marvel/Disney is already having a great year, and they’ll be hoping for another hit in a couple of months with Ant-Man. Now a new poster has arrived, which you can take a look at above.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man.” Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

‘Marvel’s “Ant-Man” stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Darren Cross aka Yellowjacket, Bobby Cannavale as Paxton, Michael Peña as Luis, Judy Greer as Maggie, Tip “Ti” Harris as Dave, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Wood Harris as Gale, Jordi Mollà as Castillo and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym. Directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s “Ant-Man” delivers a high-stakes, tension-filled adventure on July 17, 2015.’

Channing Tatum May Have Two Kisses for Maddy

May 31, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Channing-TatumChanning Tatum is certainly keen to be master of his own destiny, having produced several of his recent movies and putting several more into development. Now he’s added a new one, Two Kisses for Maddy, which he will produce and which is being put together as a possible starring vehicle.

As Variety reports, the film ‘is based on Matthew Logelin’s memoir “Two Kisses for Maddy: A Memoir of Loss and Love,” which centers on his marriage, the death of his wife 27 hours after she gave birth to their daughter and his experiences of raising his daughter as a single parent.’

Dana Stevens has been hired to write the screenplay.

Interestingly it almost became a Lifetime TV movie of the week a couple of years ago, but may now be getting a bit of an a-list upgrade.

Patricia Highsmith’s (Possibly Bisexual) Tom Ripley Heads For The Small Screen

May 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

talented-mr-ripleyAlthough many of us will remember Anthony Minghella’s The Talented Mr. Ripley, starring Matt Damon, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow, there have actually been a couple of other films based on Patricia Highsmith’s Tom Ripley in the past decade or so, including Ripley’s Game, starring John Malkovich, and Ripley Under Ground, with Barry Pepper.

Now there’s another take on the possibly gay of bisexual character in the works, as THR reports that Television 360, Endemol Shine Studios and publisher Diogenes are teaming up to turn the five-book series in a TV show. It’s early days though as before shopping it around to potential partners, they want to package it up with a writer or major filmmaker, as well as finding someone to play the title role.

Ripley is a true antihero – suave and charming, but also a con artist and serial killer – who is a very dangerous man to be around if you have something he wants. While it’s never explictly stated in the book that he is gay or bisexual, it is broadly hinted at and many have assumed that he is. For example there is his obsession with Dickie Greenleaf in The Talented Mr. Ripley (which was made unabashedly homoerotic in the 1999 film), and his lack of sexual desire for his wife, while many have read a gay subtext between Ripley and Frank Pierson in The Boy Who Followed Ripley. It’s not known whether this side of Tom Ripley will make it through to the TV show.

It should be added that Highsmith herself said she didn’t think Ripley was gay, instead suggesting that he wasn’t particularly sexual at all, but that he appreciated other men’s look (and certainly envied them). Of course the author wasn’t afraid of homosexuality, as in 1952 she wrote the lesbian-themed romance The Price Of Salt (under a pseudonym). Indeed it’s the fact that a film version of The Price Of Salt did so well at Cannes (which stars Cate Blanchett and goes by the title Carol), that makes this a particularly sensible time to try and bring Ripley to the small screen.

Wild Horses Trailer – Does James Franco only play gay characters now?

May 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

wild-horses-james-francoI think we need to start a petition, as with his numerous LGBT roles James Franco is taking work away from good, honest, real gay people. Straight people coming over here and taking our jobs, it’s just not right!

Seriously though, no movie star before him has done as much as Franco to explore gay characters and stories as Franco has, as both an actor and a director. Now he’s back with another one, where he’s playing gay, but it’s the legendary Robert Duvall behind the camera.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Texas Ranger Samantha Payne (Luciana Duvall) reopens a 15-year-old Missing Persons case, uncovering clues linking a local boy’s death to wealthy family man, Scott Briggs (Robert Duvall). Samantha will stop at nothing to discover the truth even if it means risking her own life.

‘With the unexpected return of his estranged gay son Ben (Franco), Briggs must find a way to either silence the law for good, or come to terms with the hidden relationship between Ben and the boy that he tried to end years ago.’

The film, which sounds like it mightbe well worth watching, is due out in the US on June 5th. It’s not Franco’s only gay film this year, as he’s also got I Am Michael coming out, in which he plays a man who turns from LGBT activist to ex-gay poster child.

American Ultra Red Band Trailer – Jesse Eisenberg & Kirsten Stewart get into some stoner action

May 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

american-ultra-jesse-eisenberg-posterBy all accounts American Ultra is a bit of an unusual movie – part Cheech & Chong and part action thriller – which reteams Adventureland co-stars Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“’American Ultra’ is a fast-paced action comedy about Mike (Eisenberg), a seemingly hapless and unmotivated stoner whose small-town life with his live-in girlfriend, Phoebe (Stewart), is suddenly turned upside down. Unbeknownst to him, Mike is actually a highly trained, lethal sleeper agent. In the blink of an eye, as his secret past comes back to haunt him, Mike is thrust into the middle of a deadly government operation and is forced to summon his inner action-hero in order to survive.”

The movie is due out in both the US and UK in August. [Read more…]

Chris Pine Up For Wonder Woman Love Interest Role

May 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

chris-pineI’m hoping this doesn’t mean that despite supposedly being about a female superhero, DC is really going to make it just as much about a guy, but Variety reports that Chris Pine is in talks to join Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman.

If he does sign on, he’ll play Wonder Woman’s love interest, Steve Trevor, who, in the comic, crash lands on the Amazons’ home island of Paradise during World War II. Wonder Woman falls for him after she nurses him back to health, and then when he returns to America she follows him – becoming Diana Prince, who in true comic fashion, Steve doesn’t realise is the same person as the hero, Wonder Woman.

Things are likely to be altered for the movie, not least bringing things up to date and tying it into DC’s universe, especially as Wonder Woman will make her first appearance in next year’s Batman Vs. Superman.

It gives Pine the potential of being part of two franchises. While it’s possible he may only be in one DC movie, it may also set his up for a key role in Justice League, as in one of Steve Trevor’s comic incarnations he is one of the main liaisons between the US government, the UN and the heroes, working alongside Amanda Waller. That character will already be part of the DC film universe as Violet Davis is playing her in Suicide Squad.

Wonder Woman is due out June 2017.

Tatum O’Neal Says That At The Moment She’s ‘Dating Mostly Women’

May 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tatum-o-nealWhen she was 10, Tatum O’Neal became the youngest person ever to win a competitive acting Oscar when she picked up the Best Supporting Actress gong for Paper Moon. After that she married John McEnroe, had some heavily publicised issues with drugs and addiction, but has also continued to act.

With her new movie, She’s Funny That Way, opening in the US soon, she’s been chatting with People in a candid interview, where she touches on her sexuality, saying “I like women. I definitely have been dating mostly women recently.”

However she doesn’t want to put a label on whether she’s gay, straight of bisexual, simply saying “I’m not one or the other.”

She adds, “I think women are the most amazing creatures on earth. They’re gentle, and also more intelligent than the men that I’ve met recently. I don’t have a steady right now, but I look forward to it.”

Netflix Decides They Want More Grace & Frankie

May 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

grace-and-frankie-poster1-slideIt’s only been online a couple of weeks, but Netflix must be feeling they’ve got a hit on their hands with Grace & Frankie, as they’ve already ordered a second season, according to Variety.

It’s not too surprising it’s been a success, as it was co-created by Friends’ Marta Kauffman and stars the impressive quartet of Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston. Who wouldn’t want to take a look at that, even if you didn’t know what it was about?

Grace & Frankie is about old friends turned enemies, who suddenly find common ground again when their husbands leave them and run off with one another.

Kauffman comments on getting a follow-up season, “Let me say, it’s so awesome to do a show on Netflix. “Because two and a half weeks after we launched, Miley Cyrus does a tweet about your show, and they call and say, ‘We’d like to do a season two.’ So yes, there is a season two. We have Ted [Sarandos] and Miley to thank.”

Season 2 will hit Netflix in 2016.

Point Break Trailer – Luke Bracey and Edgar Ramirez star in the remake

May 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

POINT-BREAK-POSTERThe jury is still out on whether there’s any point in remaking Point Break, but we can now get a taste of the film as the trailer has arrived, which you can take a look at below.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘A young FBI agent, Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey), infiltrates a cunning team of thrill-seeking elite athletes – led by the charismatic Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez). The athletes are suspected of carrying out a spate of crimes in extremely unusual ways.

Deep undercover, and with his life in imminent danger, Utah strives to prove they are the architects of this string of inconceivable crimes.

The film is replete with the most daring athleticism ever seen in a motion picture. These action adventure feats are performed by elite athletes representing the world’s best in class in big-wave surfing, wingsuit flying, sheer-face snowboarding, free rock climbing, and high-speed motorcycling.’

Ericson Core directs, with a January 8th UK release date set. [Read more…]

A Walk In The Woods Trailer – Robert Redford and Nick Nolte go hiking

May 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

a-walk-in-the-woods-film-posterRobert Redford’s quest to get Bill Bryson’s wonderful memoir A Walk In The Woods on the screen has been going on for so long that it was originally envisioned as a way to get him to reteam with Paul Newman (and seeing as the screen legend died in 2008, it really has been a long time).

Now though Redford has managed it, starring alongside Nick Nolte, Mary Steenburgen, Kristen Schaal and Emma Thompson, with Ken Kwapis directing.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In this new comedy adventure, celebrated travel writer, Bill Bryson (Redford), instead of retiring to enjoy his loving and beautiful wife (Emma Thompson), and large and happy family, challenges himself to hike the Appalachian Trail – 2,200 miles of America’s most unspoiled, spectacular and rugged countryside from Georgia to Maine. The peace and tranquility he hopes to find, though, is anything but, once he agrees to being accompanied by the only person he can find willing to join him on the trek – his long lost and former friend Katz (Nolte), a down-on-his-luck serial philanderer who, after a lifetime of relying on his charm and wits to keep one step ahead of the law – sees the trip as a way to sneak out of paying some debts and sneak into one last adventure before its too late. The trouble is, the two have a completely different definition of the word “adventure”. Now they’re about to find out that when you push yourself to the edge, the real fun begins. A Walk in the Woods also co-stars Nick Offerman (22 Jump Street), Kristen Schaal (“The Last Man on Earth”) and Mary Steenburgen (Last Vegas).’

It’s a great book and will hopefully make just as good a film.

The film’s due out in September. [Read more…]
