Kristen Stewart Signs Up For Ang Lee’s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk

April 3, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Kristen-StewartKristen Stewart’s career hasn’t exactly taken off outside the Twilight Saga, but joining up with a director with Ang Lee’s pedigree she’ll be hoping Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk will be a success.

TheWrap reports she’ll join Steve Martin, Garrett Hedlund, and Joe Alwyn in the adaptation of Ben Fountain’s novel, about 19-year-old soldier Billy Lynn and his squad, who survive an Iraq battle that is captured by embedded news cameras, causing them to become celebrated as heroes.

They are brought home by the US administration for a promotional tour that culminates at the halftime show of a Thanksgiving Day football game in Texas, before they are returned to the war. Almost the entire movie takes place during the game, with flashes away to other events.

Stewart will be Billy’s beloved older sister, Kathryn.

Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) wrote the script, which is due to start shooting later this month. It’s not clear yet when it will be in cinemas.

Anna Kendrick Joins Zac Efron In Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates

April 3, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

anna-kendrickIt looks like there’s going to be a mini Pitch Perfect reunion on the set of Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, as Kendrick will reteam with Adam Devine on the movie, which also has Zac Efron set to star.

THR reports on Kedrick signing up, saying “wild child with a romantic heart”, who answers Devine and Efron’s hard-partying and immature brothers’ ad asking for dates to a wedding (as if Efron couldn’t ask just about anyone with a pulse to accompany him). Kendrick answers the advert and gets paired up with Efron.

However while the brothers hoped their dates would keep them on the straight and narrow, it turns out the women like to party even harder than the men.

Jake Szymanski is directing from a screenplay by Brendan O’Brien and Andrew J. Cohen (Neighbors), with a July 2016 release set.

Gay Short Film Showcase: Non-Love-Song – The difficulty of expressing yourself between two young men

April 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

non-love-songNon-Love-Song is ‘A short film about two high school best friends on their last day of the summer before heading apart for college.’

One of them obviously has something he wants to say and get off his chest, but isn’t sure how the other person will react. The interesting thing is that it’s possible to read it as one of the guys being genuinely in love with the other but unable to say anything, or alternatively about both of them wanting to say how much they value the other’s friendship but notions of masculinity and how the other person will take that (especially if one of them is gay) make it difficult.

Either way, it’s quite effective. The film screened at more than 45 festival screenings including SXSW, Cinequest, Chicago International Film Festival, and Tel Aviv International LGBT Film Festival where it was named Best International Short Film.

Take a look at the film below.

Scott Eastwood Says He Likes A Bit Of Gay Fan Attention & Supports Gay Marriage

April 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

scott-eastwood2After a couple of years looking like he’s on the verge or really breaking through in the likes of Texas Chainsaw 3D and Fury, sexy (and very often shirtless) Scott Eastwood will be hoping 2015 is his year, as he’s taking the lead in the Nicholas Evans adaptation The Longest Ride and also has Snowden, Diablo and Mercury Plains coming out. He’s also just booked a small role in Suicide Squad.

Talking to Pridesource ahead of the release of The Longest Ride, the conversation unsurprisingly got around to what he thinks about his gay fans, to which Scott says, “I love it. I don’t discriminate against any fans. Fans are fans, and gay men are great. I support gay marriage and the whole bit. I think everybody should be able to be with who they want to be with. My dad [Clint Eastwood] is the same way. He’s a total Libertarian – everyone leave everyone alone. Everyone live their own private life. And why does everyone gotta be all up in arms about it?”

When reminded about Clint saying, ‘I don’t give a fuck about who wants to get married to anybody else! Why not?!’, Scott adds, “I’d give the same fucking quote – that’s perfect. I’m a firm believer that everyone’s human. We’re only on this planet for a short period of time, and we should all just be as kind as we can to other people because, in life, all you really have is how you affect people, in a negative way or a positive way.”

As for whether we’ll be seeing him in a gay role, perhaps a Brokeback remake, he says, “Oh my gosh – that’s funny! [Laughs] To me, it’s all about the script and the director. I’m very director-driven and material-oriented, so if it’s a great script and a great director, then yeah.”

Straight Outta Compton Trailer – Plus posters for the NWA biopic

April 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

straight-outta-compton-poster1We will all be able to find out more about the history of that hippity hop the kids are into these days, as Straight Outta Compton, a biopic of genre pioneers NWA is on its way and now we’ve got a set of posters and a trailer.

And can I say that O’Shea Jackson Jr. looks impressively like the person he plays, Ice Cube.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.

‘Starring O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E, Straight Outta Compton is directed by F. Gary Gray (Friday, Set It Off, The Italian Job). The drama is produced by original N.W.A. members Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, who are joined by fellow producers Matt Alvarez and Tomica Woods-Wright. Will Packer serves as executive producer of the film alongside Gray.’

It’ll be out in the UK on August 14th. [Read more…]

Stephen Amell Up For Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 As Casey Jones

April 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

stephen-amell-shirtlessArrow’s Stephen Amell has just got something to keep him busy over his show’s summer break, as Variety reports that he’s signed up to ensure Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is a little bit hunkier than it might otherwise have been. He’ll be playing a character many thought should have been in the first movie, Casey Jones.

It won’t be too much of a stretch for him, as again he’ll be playing a vigilante, but instead of a hood and a bow, he’ll have a hockey mask and a baseball bat. Assuming they stick with the how the character was in the comics, he’ll end up helping the turtles as well as being a bit of a love interest for April O’Neill.

There are no details about the story, but Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec are once again writing the script, with Earth To Echo’s Dave Green directing.

The movie will start shooting in a couple of months, for release June 2016.

Mark Wahlberg Will Lead Boston Bombing Drama Patriot’s Day

April 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mark-wahlbergProud Bostonian Mark Wahlberg is going home for a movie that’s bound to have a bit of resonance for him, as Patriot’s Day is all about the Boston Marathon Bombings. Deadline reports Wahlberg will produce and star, and also mentions that it will be in a race to screens against Boston Strong, starring Casey Affleck.

However they are slightly different film, as while Boston Strong concentrates on the effect the bombings had on the city in the week between the event and the capture of the bombers, Patriot’s Day is based around Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis (Mark Wahlberg) and his account of what happened during the hunt for the murderers, with the movie also using research and footage shot on the scene by news magazine programme 60 Minutes.

It’s suggested it will be made as an ‘intense thriller’ looking at the investigation into the bombing and the manhunt for Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s.

It’s a bit of corporate synergy, as 60 Minutes is a CBS programme, while the film will be backed by CBS Films.

Both movies hope to shoot this year for a 2016 release.

Supernatural Trailer – Things get sexy in futuristic Thailand in the gay-themed flick

March 31, 2015 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

supernatural-tla-slideNow this looks like it might be an interesting and unusual one, which could be well worth a look. While not Thailand’s first gay-themed movie it would appear this one goes further than any of them have before.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Science fiction about a future Thailand. Futuristic, experimental, homo-erotic and with elements of a political essay. With a richness of themes and impressions that wouldn’t get past the censor in Thailand. The maker doesn’t mince his words and isn’t afraid to look reality in the eye.

‘In a futurist world, the Thai kingdom has been transformed by ‘The Leader’ into ‘the Realm of people who have done good deeds and earned merits’. It’s a nice place to be, even though the inhabitants are plagued by an indefinable nostalgia. In the old days, people could at least touch each other. Although the Realm has reached version 2.0, technical possibilities remain limited. This wondrous story of the future is interwoven with stories set in the present and past. According to Pansittivorakul, known for his independently-produced and taboo-breaking documentaries on homosexuality and politics, his first feature is science fiction, yet it is about today’s Thailand. For instance he criticizes the need for religion and superstition. But in the end, this very idiosyncratic, homo-erotically charged essay is above all about time: ‘Time influences everything. The past has to do with the present, and the present is linked to the future.’’

TLA plans to release the movie later this year. It’s currently screening at festivals. [Read more…]

First Look At Netflix’s Gay-Themed Grace & Frankie Starring Jane Fonda & Lily Tomlin

March 31, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

grace-and-frankie-pic1How would to longtime female friends react if their husbands ran off with one another in their autumn years? That’s the central premise of Grace & Frankie, Netflix’s new show which features the illustrious central cast of Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston.

Now the first image from the show have arrived, along with a commentary from Fonda and Tomlin about what they show us.

Here’s the one for the picture above:
Jane: After our husbands’ big reveal, Grace and Frankie bond at a beach house. This specific scene takes place the morning after Lily’s character Frankie spikes my tea with peyote.
Lily: They did a great job by mixing seaweed into my hairdo.
Jane: More like a hair don’t. It suits you, though. Nice and salty.

Here’s the synopsis and then take a look at a few more pics below that: ‘Grace and Frankie stars Jane Fonda (“Grace”) and Lily Tomlin (“Frankie”) as a pair of frenemies whose lives are turned upside down – and permanently intertwined – when their husbands leave them for each other. From executive producers Marta Kaufmann (“Friends”) and Howard Morris (“Home Improvement”), the funny and fearless series takes on aging with gusto, as Grace and Frankie face starting over in their 70s in a 21st Century world, from facelifts to Facebook, joint pain to joint rolling and blind dates to night blindness. The comedic drama also stars Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston, along with Brooklyn Decker, Ethan Embry, Baron Vaughn and June Diane Raphael.’ [Read more…]
