Entourage Movie Trailer – Kevin Connolly, Adrian Grenier & the boys are back

December 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

entourage-movie-trailerEver since Entourage ended on TV there’s been a lot of talk about a movie version, but it was – like the 24 film – one of those things that most people thought was unlikely to ever happen. However eventually everything was worked out and the entire main cast reunited to make the film.

Now the first teaser trailer has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“Entourage,” the much-anticipated big-screen version of the award-winning hit HBO series, reunites the show’s original cast, led by Kevin Connolly, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara and Jeremy Piven.

‘Movie star Vincent Chase (Grenier), together with his boys, Eric (Connolly), Turtle (Ferrara) and Johnny (Dillon), are back…and back in business with super agent-turned-studio head Ari Gold (Piven). Some of their ambitions have changed, but the bond between them remains strong as they navigate the capricious and often cutthroat world of Hollywood.

‘Also starring are Billy Bob Thornton and Haley Joel Osment as father and son, Larsen and Travis McCredle. Returning cast from the series also includes Perrey Reeves as Ari Gold’s wife; Emmanuelle Chriqui as Sloan; Rhys Coiro as Billy Walsh; Debi Mazar as Vince’s publicist, Shauna; Rex Lee as Lloyd; Constance Zimmer as Dana Gordon; and Nora Dunn as Dr. Marcus. Emily Ratajkowski appears as herself. Rounding out the cast are Alan Dale, who appeared in the series, rapper Scott Mescudi, and Rhonda Rousey.

‘“Entourage” creator Doug Ellin is directing the feature film from his own screenplay.’

It’s due in cinemas next June. [Read more…]

Exodus: God & Kings (Cinema Review)

December 23, 2014 By Stephen Sclater Leave a Comment

Starring: Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, John Turturro, Aaron Paul, Sigourney Weaver
Director: Ridley Scott
Running Time: 150 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: December 26th 2014

Ridley Scott is one of the most revered directors of our time. While he’s worked in all sorts of genres, he’s had particular success with ground-breaking classic sci-fi such as Alien, as well historical biographies or fiction, which often turn out to be masterpieces such as the multi award winning Gladiator. There is no doubt that Scott is one of cinema’s greatest storytellers.

This time Ridley Scott brings to our screen possibly the third greatest story ever told (after the birth of Jesus and Noah) – the Exodus of the Hebrews from Egypt. This Old Testament tale of Moses was immortalised by Charlton Heston in 1956’s The Ten Commandments, but who could possibly fill this famous pair of sandals this time? Well, none other than Batman himself – Christian Bale. [Read more…]

New Focus Trailer – Will Smith shows off his con man side

December 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

FOCUS-Poster1Will Smith is showing off a slightly different side in Focus. He’s previously been known to turn down roles if his character wasn’t an out-and-out good guy, but that’s certainly now the case here.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Will Smith stars as Nicky, a seasoned master of misdirection who becomes romantically involved with novice con artist Jess (Margot Robbie). As he’s teaching her the tricks of the trade, she gets too close for comfort and he abruptly breaks it off. Three years later, the former flame—now an accomplished femme fatale—shows up in Buenos Aires in the middle of the high-stakes racecar circuit. In the midst of Nicky’s latest, very dangerous scheme, she throws his plans for a loop… and the consummate con man off his game.’

It’s definitely something a bit different for Will. The film is due out in the UK on February 27th, 2015. [Read more…]

New In The Heart of the Sea Trailer – Chris Hemsworth and Ben Whishaw have a whale of a tale

December 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

in-the-heart-of-the-sea-pic1Next spring Chris Hemsworth has got two very different battles on his hands, one superhero powered one in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and another against a huge whale in In The Heart Of The Sea. A new trailer for the latter has now arrived, which you can watch below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Oscar winner Ron Howard (“A Beautiful Mind”) directs the action adventure “In the Heart of the Sea,” based on Nathaniel Philbrick’s best-selling book about the dramatic true journey of the Essex.

‘In the winter of 1820, the New England whaling ship Essex was assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and an almost human sense of vengeance. The real-life maritime disaster would inspire Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick. But that told only half the story. “In the Heart of the Sea” reveals the encounter’s harrowing aftermath, as the ship’s surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive. Braving storms, starvation, panic and despair, the men will call into question their deepest beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade, as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.

‘“In the Heart of the Sea” stars Chris Hemsworth (“The Avengers,” “Rush”) as the vessel’s veteran first mate Owen Chase; Benjamin Walker (“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”) as its inexperienced Captain, George Pollard; Cillian Murphy (“The Dark Knight Rises”) as second mate Matthew Joy; and Ben Whishaw (“Skyfall”) as novelist Herman Melville, whose inquiries into the event 30 years later helped bring the story to light.

‘Tom Holland (“The Impossible”) also stars as young seaman Tom Nickerson, and Brendan Gleeson (“Edge of Tomorrow”) as the same man, 30 years later. Spanish actor Jordi Mollà (“Riddick”) is the captain of another ship, the Archimedes, who tries to warn the Essex of what may lie ahead.’

Thankfully from the trailer it doesn’t look like this film will be as stunningly boring as Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. [Read more…]

Henry Cavill & Armie Hammer Are Looking Stylish In The First Man From U.N.C.L.E. Pic

December 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

man-from-uncle-preview-pic1The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is one of those movies that loked like it would never happen. A film version of the 60s TV show has been talked about for years, with the likes of Tom Cruise, Channing Tatum, Joel Edgerton, Bradley Cooper, and George Clooney all circling to star, and Matthew Vaughn, David Dobkin, and Steven Soderbergh slated to direct. But for various reasons they all moved on.

However then Guy Ritchie signed up to helm, with Henry Cavill as CIA agent Napoleon Solo and Armie Hammer as KGB agent Illya Kuryakin.

The movie went in front of the cameras a while ago but it’s only now we’re getting the first image, which shows, Cavill, Hammer and Alicia Vikander looking rather stylish.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘
Henry Cavill (“Man of Steel”) stars as Napoleon Solo opposite Armie Hammer (“The Social Network”) as Illya Kuryakin in director Guy Ritchie’s action adventure “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,” a fresh take on the hugely popular 1960s television series.

‘Set against the backdrop of the early 1960s, at the height of the Cold War, “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” centers on CIA agent Solo and KGB agent Kuryakin. Forced to put aside longstanding hostilities, the two team up on a joint mission to stop a mysterious international criminal organization, which is bent on destabilizing the fragile balance of power through the proliferation of nuclear weapons and technology. The duo’s only lead is the daughter of a vanished German scientist, who is the key to infiltrating the criminal organization, and they must race against time to find him and prevent a worldwide catastrophe.’

My Husband’s Not Gay Trailer – Looking at mormon guys who marry women despite same sex attractions

December 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

my-husbands-not-gayBack in the past before attitudes towards homosexuality started loosening in many countries, there were two choices for guys who knew they were mainly attracted to other men – become a ‘confirmed bachelor’ or marry a woman anyway. While the latter is now much rarer, in some circumstances it still happens and as the upcoming TLD special, ‘My Husband’s Not Gay’ shows, sometimes the women involved are well aware of their hubby’s predelictions.

The documentary follows four devout Mormon men, three of whom are married to women, but all of whom admit to being largely attracted to men rather than women.

The Salt Lake City residents are quite open about this, with one saying, “I’m attracted to my wife for sure… and I’m definitely attracted to men too”.

However another adds, “With our faith in God we believe we believe we can overcome anything.”

While many will feel there’s nothing to overcome, it’s certainly an interesting subject. The doc is due to air in the US in January. [Read more…]

Get Hard Trailer – Will Ferrell gets Kevin Hart to prepare him for life behind bars

December 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

get-hard-posterWhen millionaire hedge fund manager James King (Will Ferrell) is nailed for fraud and bound for a stretch in San Quentin, the judge gives him 30 days to get his affairs in order. Desperate, he turns to Darnell Lewis (Kevin Hart) to prep him for a life behind bars. But despite James’ one-percenter assumptions, Darnell is a hard-working small business owner who has never received a parking ticket, let alone been to prison.

Together, the two men do whatever it takes for James to “get hard” and, in the process, discover how wrong they were about a lot of things – including each other.

Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart join forces in the feature comedy “Get Hard,” also starring rapper Tip “T.I.” Harris, Alison Brie, and Craig T. Nelson.

The film is directed by Etan Cohen, making his feature directorial debut following a successful writing career, with credits including “Tropic Thunder.” The screenplay is by Jay Martel & Ian Roberts and Etan Cohen, story by Adam McKay and Jay Martel & Ian Roberts. Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Chris Henchy are the producers, with Ravi Mehta, Kevin Messick and Jessica Elbaum serving as executive producers.

The creative filmmaking team includes director of photography Tim Suhrstedt (“Little Miss Sunshine”); production designer Maher Ahmad (“The Hangover Part III”); editor Michael Sale (“We’re the Millers”); and costume designer Shay Cunliffe (“The Bourne Legacy”).

“Get Hard” is scheduled to open worldwide beginning Friday, March 27, 2015. [Read more…]

Kate Winslet Wanted For Steve Jobs Biopic Female Lead

December 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kate-winsletGetting the biopic of Steve Jobs together, with a script by Aaron Sorkin, is turning out to be a lot more difficult than you would imagine. There’s been a bit of a revolving door of directors and actors in the main role, and recently it also jumped studios from Sony to Universal.

However they’re still struggling to get it to work, with Danny Boyle currently set to direct, with Michael Fassbender as Jobs, Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak and Jeff Daniels as John Sculley.

There’s also been a few issues sorting out the female lead, with Jessica Chastain and Natalie Portman reportedly already having passed on the role. However Variety reports that the latest actress being sought for the part is Kate Winslet, although it’s not clear how close she is to signing on.

They’ll be hoping they can get it sorted soon though, as it’s known that Boyle wants to go into production as soon as possible.

Bryan Singer Abuse Accuser Is Facing Major Investment Fraud Charges

December 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Michael F. Egan & Jerry Herman

Michael F. Egan & lawyer Jerry Herman

Bryan Singer has had one hell of a year – with highs including scoring his biggest hit ever with X-Men: Days Of Future Past, but also gargantuan lows which involved being accused of forced rape and underage sex, with the main accuser being a man called Michael Egan, who said the events took place in the late 1990s when he was a 17 and living in LA.

In the months after the accusations against Singer and three other men were very publicly revealed – complete with press conferences and suggestions this was just the beginning of massive takedown of Hollywood pederasts – the whole thing collapsed, largely because of huge contradictions and problems with Egan’s testimony, where it became clear he probably wasn’t telling the truth. He’s currently facing lawsuits from some of those he accused alleging malicious prosecution.

Now Egan has even bigger problems as The Charlotte Observer reports (via Towleroad), that he’s being indicted on investment fraud charges in what appears to be a five-year long Ponzi Scheme that he ran.

The Observer reports: ‘In the indictment handed down in Charlotte this week, Egan is accused of a five-year financial scheme in which he attracted investors by lying about his assets – Egan claimed he owned percentages of well-known hotels and casinos in Las Vegas, among other claims – and his connections to banking executives and investment moguls.

‘He promised customers returns from investments in Halloween-theme attractions, television shows and land development. Instead, Egan used the capital to pay rent, buy groceries, underwrite medical bills and restaurant tabs, and take care of his pets, prosecutors say.

‘Egan hid his activity, investigators say, by creating account statements to reflect fraudulent balances.

‘The indictment charges him with securities fraud and wire fraud. He is to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge David Cayer on Jan. 13.’

If convicted he could face up to 40 years in prison and a fine of $5.25 million if convicted.

While it’s easy to see Egan purely as a liar and villain in all this, it should be remembered that it appears he really was subjected to sexual abuse as a teenager at the hands of men who were convicted of child sex offences around a decade ago (however, the specifics of his recent accusations have been somewhat discredited, and there’s no proof Singer was involved). Of course it’s impossible to say how much this effected him and whether if helped lead to what appears to be a pattern of increasingly risky criminal behaviour (assuming he did it, of course).
