Earlier today we reported that Shia LaBeouf definitely won’t be back for anymore Transformers action, and now we’re wondering whether that’s because he’s got paranoid about looking tiny next to his enormous robotic co-stars. The only reason to think this is that he’s now attached to a project where he gets to be the huge one.
According to Variety LaBeouf is now onboard the love story A Giant (working title), which Gil Kenan (Monster House) will direct from a script he wrote. The film follows a girl who is broke and running from a series of bad relationships, who moves back home to reconnect with her brother. Instead she forms a relationship with a 20-foot-tall man-child who lives next door, who’ll be played by Shia LaBeouf.
Perhaps it’ll be less bizarre than it sounds when it gets to the screen, although it doesn basically sound like LaBeouf wants to be the Transformers this time around. A Giant has no studio home at the moment, although Universal is seen as a strong possibility.

That’s happened again, as despite Bay saying Dark of The Moon was most definitely his last Transformers movie, Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner has revealed that the toy company is in “active discussions” with Paramount Pictures for Transfomers 4, and that executive producer Steven Spielberg and director Michael Bay are involved in the talks.

There’s been a lot of interest in directing The Twilight Zone. Deadline reports 20th Century Fox has acquired Michael Vukadinovich’s spec screenplay, The Three Misfortunes of Geppetto, with Real Steel and Night At The Museum helmer Shawn Levy set to direct.
He’s currently shooting One Shot with Tom Cruise, but writer/director Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Way Of The Gun) already has his eye on the future, as Deadline reports he has a follow-up planned with Rubicon. It’s designed as a full-on multi-platform project, which will be turned into a movie, a graphic novel, and a video game.
Just in case you were wondering whether the idea of them making a sequel to Top Gun was a crazy dream you had about a year ago comes news, via Variety, that Paramount has hired screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz to write Top Gun 2. The duo have had a pretty good year, having worked on the scripts for both X-Men: First Class and Thor, and now they’ll get to take on the classic 80s flick.
This weekend it was a race between Footloose and Real Steel as to which would top the US box office. On Friday it looked like Footloose was pulling ahead, but with that movie slightly running out of steam as the weekend went on and Real Steel benefitting from family audiences on Saturday and Sunday, it was the robot boxing film that won out with $16.3 million.
