Gay Short Film Showcase: The Beginning – A young man comes out to his father before prom

July 4, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-beginningQuite often the short films we post highlight the negative aspects of LGBT life. While that is vitally important, it’s also nice to sometimes have one that’s just rather sweet. That’s certainly true of The Beginning.

In the film, a father is sorting a boutonniere for his ‘ladykiller’ son, Davis, to wear to prom. However, Davis is pretty nervous because he’s got something to tell his dad – his prom date isn’t a woman, it’s a guy. How does the Dad react? Well, the fact this was made for Hallmark should give you a clue.

The short was written by Steven Tagle and directed by Melanie McGraw to help promote Feeln, Hallmark’s feelgood streaming service (available in the US). If you know a short film we ought to be posting, tell us by getting in touch via our contact page. The Legend Of Tarzan Already Has A Gay Porn Parody

July 3, 2016 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

tarzan-parody-slideMen.com’s latest strategy simply seems to be to look through the upcoming movie release slate and then make some porn based on it, while calling it a parody. It may be a little cheesy, but it works.

Following the likes of Star Wars, X-Men and Batman v Superman, they have set their sights on The Legend Of Tarzan (which technically they don’t even have to call a parody, as the character of Tarzan is in the public domain). They, Lord Greystoke has gone gay. Poor old Jane.

This time the man raised by apes takes on the form of porn star Diego Sans, with the whole thing shot in Costa Rica to give it a more authentic jungle vibe. Apparently it will ‘tap into our primal fantasies about raw masculinity gone wild’, at least according to Men.com it will.

They also state, ‘It is also a story about being from two worlds and not fitting in. Tarzan’s sense of being an outsider resonates with the queer community. We at Men wanted to create an authentic experience so we sent our production team and performers deep into the Costa Rican rainforest to bring the Tarzan experience to our fans.’

Actually, I think it’s probably but just about sex, but I would have to watch it to properly judge. Take a look at the safe for work trailer and poster below. [Read more…]

Brexit Causes Lesbian Web Series Different For Girls To Be Put On Hold

July 3, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Different-for-girls-book-coverEver since Britain voted to leave the EU, there’s been a lot of talk about the possible effects, not least for the entertainment industry and investment in film, TV and web projects in the UK. Now it seems one of its first casualties is the lesbian-themed web series, Different For Girls.

Pink News reports that plans to make the series – based on Jacquie Lawrence’s novel – have been put on hold. The reason is that due to the uncertainty surrounding the UK economy following Brexit, much of the funding for the series has been pulled.

While the show had done a successful crowdfunding campaign, that was only due to cover 25% of the costs, with the rest coming from more traditional routes. However, the money has now been pulled, leaving Different For Girls in limbo, and forced to abandon its plans to shoot next month.

The show was due to follow a group of lesbian and bisexual women in West London, with Sophie Ward (Heartbeat), Rachel Shelley (The L Word), and Heather Peace (Lip Service, Waterloo Road) set to star. It hoped to be an antidote to TV’s tendency to ignore realistic lesbian stories, and also to kill off LGBT characters, particularly as numerous lesbian characters have met their maker in 2016.

Hopefully the series will find new funding, but for now Brexit means we will have to wait.

Gay Short Film Showcase: Por Un Beso – Powerful Spanish short looks at the violence of homophobia

July 3, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

por-un-besoIn the last few years many countries have enacted new rights for LGBT people, but it’s certainly not a battle we’ve won, especially in terms preventing fringes of society from hating anyone who isn’t straight. Many people in same sex couples will know the trepidation that can accompany public displays of affection, not knowing if you’re going to get harassed or beaten up.

The Spanish short Por Un Beso takes a powerful look at this, following two men in Madrid who meet and fall in love. However, the openness with which they share their happiness ultimately has tragic consequences.

It pack a lot into only a few minutes, making its point with great power. If you know a short film we ought to be posting, tell us by getting in touch via our contact page. And check out more gay short films and web series here. [Read more…]

Wonderkid Trailer – Take a look at the short film tackling homophobia in soccer

June 30, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wonderkid-slideWonderkid got a big boost during its crowdfunding campaign last October when Ian McKellen stepped up to support the film, helping ensure it reached its targets. Now the trailer for the short film has arrived, which you can take a look at below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘WONDERKID a film by Rhys Chapman, which tackles one of football’s biggest issues – homophobia. Starring Chris Mason, the film depicts the inner turmoil of a gay professional footballer. The film is part of a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about the lack of openly gay professionals in the sport.’

Chapman comments, “With everything going on in the world currently this is a really important time for sexuality and gender issues. We have created an inspiring character who knows he is gay, accepts he is gay and wants to come out, but it is his profession that is holding him back.

“If enough people see this film, it can make a huge difference in football. Anyone that watches this film will understand that everyone deserves to live their life free from fear. They will see that it is a simple solution and all that is required to make footballers feel safe enough to come out is the acceptance of the general public and it is down to us to send the message.”

Wonderkid will premiere at the Leicester Square Odeon in August before getting an online release later this year. [Read more…]

Go Go Boy Interrupted: S2 Ep 13 – Danny finally gets to go on a first date with his dream guy

June 30, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

go-go-boy-interrupted-s2-ep13Each episode of Go Go Boy Interrupted may be fairly short, but we’re certainly getting plenty of them in Season 2. We’re now up to Episode 13, and after mooning over him for several eps, he’s finally going on a date with Keith.

However, things don’t turn out as he hoped, and while the show often satisfies itself with entertaining silliness, this time it sets out to tug on the heartstrings a little. Of course, that doesn’t mean it gives up on the humour, or indeed Danny’s slightly clueless approach to the world.

Sully Trailer – Tom Hanks is the Hero On The Hudson for Clint Eastwood

June 30, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sully-poster-slideCaptain Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger is famous for something that took less than 10 minutes – crash landing the airplane he was piloting into New York’s Hudson, an miraculously saving all the passengers. That might not sound like enough for an entire movie, but there will be plenty more to it in Clint Eastwood’s Sully, which has just released its first trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Oscar-winning director Clint Eastwood (“American Sniper,” “Million Dollar Baby”) comes drama “Sully: Miracle On The Hudson”, starring Oscar winner Tom Hanks (“Bridge of Spies,” “Forrest Gump”) as Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger.

‘On January 15, 2009, the world witnessed the “Miracle on the Hudson” when Captain “Sully” Sullenberger glided his disabled plane onto the frigid waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. However, even as Sully was being heralded by the public and the media for his unprecedented feat of aviation skill, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and his career.

‘“Sully” also stars Aaron Eckhart (“Olympus Has Fallen,” “The Dark Knight”) as Sully’s co-pilot, Jeff Skiles, and Oscar nominee Laura Linney (“The Savages,” “Kinsey,” Showtime’s “The Big C”) as Sully’s wife, Lorraine Sullenberger.’

Alexander Skarsgard Shares Some Tips For ‘Incredible’ On-Screen Gay Sex

June 29, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

legend-of-tarzan3-slideIf you starred in True Blood, it was pretty much certain you were going to end up in a gay sex scene at some point. As a result the cast and crew got pretty good at it, to the point where the sadly straight Alexander Skarsgard has been sharing some tips on how to look good shagging a guy on-screen.

Talking to Pride Source, he called his two gay sex scenes on the show as ‘incredible’, adding that to do it well, “You just have to embrace it.”

Talking of the first of those scenes, with Theo Alexander, who played Talbot Angelis, “I just said, ’Look at the scene. It’s this nemesis and he comes in and then it gets seductive and you think they’re gonna make love and it gets into that and then suddenly my character stabs him in the back and he explodes. In two minutes, look at this emotional rollercoaster we’re taking the audience on. If we commit to this, it’s going to be an amazing scene and we’re going to be very happy with it forever. If we hold back, that’s when it gets awkward.’”

He adds of True Blood as a whole, “A lot of the storylines are metaphors for the strife people in the LGBT community experience. But it’s done in a very subtle way where people who have never met anyone who’s gay or who have prejudice toward that community would still embrace the show and would still come up (to me) and be super excited about it.”

Skargard also talked about the respect he has for Drag Queens after dressing up to go to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, saying, “Oh my god; walking around in those heels, in that super itchy, hot wig and the fake nails, I felt like Edward Scissorhands. I couldn’t even grab a drink. Once we got to the after party at the gay club, I just kicked my heels off and walked around barefoot because I was just dying. So, I have tremendous respect for all the drag queens out there. I got a little taste of what it takes to look that fabulous.”
