Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Final Trailer – What is the Caped Crusader’s problem?

February 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

batman-v-superman-face-off-slideIt appears that Warner Bros. has decided that to really rev us up for next month’s release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we ought to know a bit more about Ben Affleck’s take on the Caped Crusader. As a result the new trailer focuses on him, while not forgetting that the Man Of Steel is pretty important to.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.’

The movie is due out next month. Take a look at the new trailer below.

Equals Teaser Trailer – Nicholas Hoult & Kristen Stewart have an outlawed dystopian romance

February 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

equals-nicholas-houltOne day it would be nice to have a movie that was utopian rather than dystopian, where the future is actually a good place and science has helped us all out. But I suppose there’s more drama in suggesting things have gone wrong. In Equals at least romance survives, even if it’s not meant to.

In the film, Nicholas Hoult and Kristen Stewart live in a gloomy, sterile world, where emotion has been outlawed. However, the human spirit won’t take that lying down, and some people get a disease known as ‘Switched On Syndrome’, where they begin to have feelings. As a result, Hoult and Stewart start to fall in love.

Guy Pearce, Jacki Weaver, Bel Powley, Kate Lyn Sheil, and Claudia Kim also start, with a summer release expected.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Red Band Trailer – Tina Fey heads for Afghanistan

February 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot-poster1-slideWar and comedy may not seem like easy bedfellows, but Tina Fey is giving it a go with Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. The film, previously known as Taliban Shuffle, is based on a true story of a reporter getting out of their depth in Afghanistan.

Inspired by Kim Barker’s memoir, the film follows her after she first arrived in Kabul as a journalist in 2002. At the time she barely owned a passport, spoke only English and had little idea how to do the ‘Taliban Shuffle’ between Afghanistan and Pakistan. However, her stories about Islamic militants and shaky reconstruction were soon overshadowed by the bigger news in Iraq. But as she delved deeper into Pakistan and Afghanistan, her love for the hapless countries grew, along with her fear for their future stability. Martin Freeman and Margot Robbie co-star.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot  due out in the UK March 4th 2016. Take a look at the new trailer below.

Hardcore Henry Trailer – Action cinema goes completely first person shooter

February 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hardcore-henry-slideLast September we posted a very violent trailer for a movie called Hardcore, which was creating a bit of a buzz at SXSW due to the fact the entire thing is film like a first person shooter. Since then the film has had a slight title change – to Hardcore Henry – but other than that looks as mental as it did before.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Strap in. Hardcore Henry is an original film that was shot completely from the hero’s perspective. You remember nothing. Mainly because you’ve just been brought back from the dead by your wife (Haley Bennett). She tells you that your name is Henry. Five minutes later, you are being shot at, your wife has been kidnapped, and you should probably go get her back. Who’s got her? His name’s Akan (Danila Kozlovsky); he’s a powerful warlord with an army of mercenaries, and a plan for world domination. You’re also in an unfamiliar city of Moscow, and everyone wants you dead. Everyone except for a mysterious British man called Jimmy (Sharlto Copley). He may be on your side, but you aren’t sure. If you can survive the insanity, and solve the mystery, you might just discover your purpose and the truth behind your identity. Good luck, Henry. You’re likely going to need it…’

Take a look at the new trailer below. It’ll be in cinemas in April.

Kate Winslet May Find Collateral Beauty Alongside Will Smith

February 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kate-winslet

The cast for the the Will Smith movie Collateral Beauty is coming together fast, as just a couple of day after it was revealed Keira Knightley was in talks for the movie, Variety says Kate Winslet has started negotiations to appear in the movie.

The film is about a New York advertising executive (Smith) who experiences a deep personal tragedy. When his colleagues devise an unconventional plan to break him out of his depression, the plan works, but not in a way that anyone imagined. The likes of Helen Mirren, Ed Norton, Michael Pena and Naomie Harris are also attached to star.

Alongside the more conventional elements, there are also actors playing walking embodiments of Love, Time, and Death. It’s not known who Winslet will play, but with Knightley set to be Love, there’s a decent chance she’ll be either Time or Death.

The movie starts shooting in the next couple of weeks in New York City, with David Frankel directing from a script by Allan Loeb. A December 2016 US release is already set, which suggests they’re already thinking this may be an awards contender.

Four Moons (Cuatro Lunas) Trailer – Going from young to old in the gay-themed short film collection

February 10, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cuatro-Lunas-four-moons-slideSergio Tovar Velarde’s Four Moons got a lot of interest on the LGBT film festival circuit when it first did the rounds in 2014, thanks to its idea of bringing together four gay-themed films, each of which deals with a different stage of life. It’s taken a while, but now it’s on its way to DVD and VoD in the UK.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Four stories about love and self-acceptance: An eleven year-old boy struggles to keep secret the attraction he feels towards his male cousin. Two former childhood friends reunite and start a relationship that gets complicated due to one of them’s fear of getting caught. A gay long lasting relationship is in jeopardy when a third man comes along. An old family man is obsessed with a young male prostitute and tries to raise the money to afford the experience.’

The movie will be released in the UK via TLA Releasing on April 25th. Take a look at the trailer below.

Henry Gamble’s Birthday Party Trailer – Coming to terms with being a gay teen never gets any easier

February 10, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Henry-Gamble's-Birthday-Party-slideWhile there aren’t as many coming out movies as there used to be, it’s certainly not a genre that has gone away, and if they’re done well, they can still be entertaining and worthwhile. Henry Gamble’s Birthday Party is a new addition to the canon, which from the trailer suggests it’s less about the teen coming to accept he’s gay, and more about the reactions and thoughts of those around him.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From writer-director Stephen Cone (The Wise Kids) comes this wonderful and complex new coming out drama featuring a breakout performance from newcomer Cole Doman. Keep an eye out for Henry Gamble’s Birthday Party coming soon to DVD and VOD.’

It’ll be on in the US via Wolfe Video this summer. Take a look at the cute trailer below.

Peter de Rome Trailer – Into the life of the grandfather of gay porn

February 10, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

peter-de-romeFans of arty rudeness may already know the name Peter Rome, not least from the BFI release a couple of years ago of The Erotic Films Of Peter De Rome, which brought together many of the movies from the 1960s, which had helped get him the unnofficial title of being the Grandfather Of Gay Porn. Full of hardcore sex, they also offered a view into a bygone gay world and a rather interesting take on bringing sex to the screen.

However, who was Peter De Rome? A documentary, made shortly before the filmmaker died in June 2014, sets out to find out about him and about where his films came from.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Peter’s story spans eight decades of the “gay experience” both in the USA and UK with first-hand experiences from World War II to Stonewall and beyond. The film PETER DE ROME charts his remarkable journey from cinematic outlaw to celebrated film icon with contributions from collaborators and some of those he has influenced. The film uses extensive extracts from Peter’s varied and often explicit work, from his early 8mm experiments in the 1960s to his extraordinary feature films to create a portrait of a true original.’

The documentary will be available on DVD in the UK on March 14th.

Rogue One’s Chris Weitz To Write Supreme Court Gay Marriage Fight Movie 21 Years to Midnight

February 10, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

chris-weitz

A couple of weeks after last June’s historic US Supreme Court ruling in the case of Obergefell v. Hodges – which extended the right to marry to same sex couples across America – Fox 2000 announced that they had purchased the right to Jim Obergefell’s life and intended to make a movie about it. That film has now taken a step forward, with Variety reporting that Chris Weitz has been hired to write the script for the movie, which is currently called 21 Years To Midnight.

Weitz first came to prominence (alongside his brother), for writing and directing American Pie, but since then he’s helmed the likes of About A Boy, The Golden Compass and The Twilight Saga: New Moon, as well as writing Antz, Cinderella and the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

The movie will follows Obergefell’s story, which most famously saw him him marry John Arthur in Maryland (where same sex marriage was legal) in 2013, three months before his death. However the the state of Ohio, where he lived, refused to list Obergefell as Arthur’s spouse on the death certificate, and so he sued. The fight went via various appeals courts, who disagreed over whether denying same sex couples the right to marry was unconstituional. Eventually is was reviewed by the Supreme Court, who gave a landmark ruling on the issue.

Its not clear whether Weitz will also direct the movie, but it seems likely. It’s also not knows when it might shoot.

Daniel Radcliffe Is Headed Into The Jungle For A New Thriller

February 10, 2016 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

daniel-racliffe-vanity-fair1-slide

Since Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe has certainly been charting his own course, seemingly picking project he’s interested in rather than simply finding projects that are going to be enormous at the box office. It looks like he’s doing it again, as THR reports he’s signed up to star in Jungle.

Based on Yossi Ghinsberg’s memoir, Radcliffe will play ‘a young adventurer who went into the Amazon with two friends and a guide in what turned out to be a dangerous and deadly expedition’. Ghinsberg and his friend headed off into an unchartered area of Bolivia with a man who promised them adventure and gold, however things quickly went wrong, with Yossi ending up being lost for three weeks in the middle of nowhere, not even knowing which way civilisation was.

Kevin Bacon was previously attached to the film, but he isn’t mentioned in the latest report.

Greg McLean (Wolf Creek) will direct, based on a script by Justin Monjo. The movie will start shooting in Australia later this year.

Natalie Portman & Nicholas Hoult Up For Xavier Dolan’s Death and Life of John F. Donovan

February 10, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Nicholas-Hoult

Back in 2014 Jessica Chastain, Kathy Bates, Susan Sarandon and Kit Harington all signed up to star in the first English-language film from queer Canadian writer/actor/director Xavier Dolan. It’s taken longer to get it going than originally planned (largely because he slotted in the upcoming It’s Only the End of the World beforehand), but Dolan has managed to hang on to his cast, along with previously announced actors such as Michael Gambon, Bella Thorne, Chris Zylka and Emily Hampshire.

However, he’s decided that isn’t an impressive enough ensemble, as Variety reports that Natalie Portman, Nicholas Hoult and Thandie Newton have joined The Death and Life of John F. Donovan. The film is about an American TV star (Harington) with everything working out for him who has a secretive correspondence with an 11 year old in London. When a gossip columnist (Jessica Chastain) makes the whole thing look indecent, his life is turned upside-down.

It’s not clear who the newly announced actors will play, but it is known that Kathy Bates is set to be the actor’s high-powered manager, while Sarandon will play his mother.

Film rights are currently being sold at the Berlin film festival, with plans to shoot later this year.
