Juan Antonio Bayona May Direct Jurassic World 2

January 20, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Juan-Antonio-Bayona

A few days ago it was revealed that director Juan Antonio Bayona had left the sequel to World War Z, apparently due to other commitments. Now we may know what that commitment is, although it’s something new rather than a prior obligation, as Deadline reports that he is now the frontrunner to helm Jurassic World 2.

While Colin Trevorrow was initially going to return to helm the Jurassic World follow up, he’s since taken the job of helming Star Wars: Episode IX and has laso made The Book Of Henry. With Universal eying a June 22, 2018 release date for the dino pic, they need to find a replacement helmer fairly soon. Although no deal is in place with Bayona, it appears he’s now favourite for the role.

The director made his directorial debut with the excellent The Orphanage in 2007, followed by The Impossible in 2012. His next film, A Monster Calls, is set out later this year.

Alexis Arquette Rants Against ‘Gay’ Jada Pinkett Smith & Her ‘Beard’ Will Smith

January 19, 2016 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

alexis-arquetteI think the lesson we can learn today is not to do something that trans actress Alexis Arquette isn’t impressed with. She’s taken to Facebook to rail against Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith who she suggests are gay, closeted, and are being hypocrital. Jada recently announced that she would not be attending the Academy Awards next month due to the lack of racial diversity in the nominations – all 20 acting noms went to white people, while several high profile films such as Straight Outta Compton also missed out.

However, Alexis isn’t having any of it, writing ‘When Jada comes out as Gay and her beard husband admits his first marriage ended when she walked in to him butt servicing his Sugar Daddy Benny Medina ..then I will listen to them. Will threw a fit on the set of Six degrees of seperation when he was required by the scene to kiss Anthony Rapp. He persuaded the director to shoot the back of his head in frame. Blocking the non existant lip lock entirely.Fuck him.Gays have enemies. They lurk in gilded closets.Outing is healthy. You are either with or against us.You decide.Today.’

Whether Alexis has particular inside knowledge or is just speculating we don’t know, but it’s certainly not the first time rumours have swirled around Jada and Will and whether their marriage is more about convenience (personally I tend to think not, but that’s just me). What do you think?

Her Story: Season 1 – Taking a look at the lives of two trans women in Los Angeles

January 19, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

her-story-ep2Her Story has been getting a fair amount of buzz ahead of the public debut of its six episode first season. Now it’s all been released online, so we can get a look the nuanced story of queer and trans lives, told by predominantly LGBT people.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Her Story is about two trans women in Los Angeles who have given up on love, when suddenly chance encounters give them hope. Violet is drawn to Allie, a reporter who approaches her for an interview, while career-driven Paige meets James, the first man she’s considered opening up to in years. Will they risk letting what they are stand in the way of being loved for who they are?

‘Trans women in the media have long been punchlines, killers, indications of urban grit, pathetic tragedies, and dangerous sirens. Rarely have they been complex characters who laugh, struggle, and grow, who share strength in sisterhood, who seek and find love. Her Story depicts the unique, complicated, and very human women we see in queer communities, and explores how these women navigate the intersections of label identity and love.

‘Co-written by Jen Richards and Laura Zak, directed by Sydney Freehand (Drunktown’s Finest), with cinematography by Bérénice Eveno, and produced by Katherine Fisher/Speed of Joy Productions, Her Story features predominantly LGBTQ women, on and off-screen. With this project we have the opportunity to positively shift cultural perceptions of trans and queer women. We invite you to join us in helping to make visible the lives of women who too often are made invisible.’

Bad Neighbours 2 Trailer – Seth Rogen & Zac Efron are back, and neither can keep their shirts on

January 19, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zac-efron-seth-rogen-neighbors-2-slideI’m pretty much convinced that if Zac Efron sees a script he likes, he tells his agent that he’ll make it, but only if they put in more opportunities to take his shirt off and show off his physique. But it seem that with Neighbours 2 (known as Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising in the us), Seth Rogen also wanted to ensure he could get his shirt off to, as you’ll see in the film’s first trailer.

Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘Returning stars Seth Rogen, Zac Efron and Rose Byrne are joined by Chloë Grace Moretz for BAD NEIGHBOURS 2, the follow-up to 2014’s most popular original comedy.  Nicholas Stoller again directs in a film that follows what happens when the will of parenthood goes against the bonds of sisterhood.’

The movie will be in UK cinemas May 6th. You can take a look at the trailer below.

Sing Street Trailer – Once director Jon Carney returns with another Irish musical tale

January 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sing-steet-pic1-slideDirector Jon Carney charmed many with the wonderful musical film Once, which has since been turned into an incredibly popular stage show. Now he’s bringing us another Irish tale infused with music, Sing Street, which has just released a new trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘SING STREET takes us back to 1980s Dublin where an economic recession forces Conor out of his comfortable private school and into survival mode at the inner-city public school where the kids are rough and the teachers are rougher. He finds a glimmer of hope in the mysterious and über-cool Raphina, and with the aim of winning her heart he invites her to star in his band’s music videos. She agrees, and now Conor must deliver what he’s promised – calling himself “Cosmo” and immersing himself in the vibrant rock music trends of the ‘80s, he forms a band with a few lads, and the group pours their hearts into writing lyrics and shooting videos. Combining Carney’s trademark warmth and humor with a punk rock edge, and featuring a memorable soundtrack with hits from The Cure, Duran Duran, The Police, and Genesis, SING STREET is an electrifying coming-of-age film that will resonate with music fans across the board.’

The cast includes the likes of Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Lucy Boynton, Jack Reynor, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Aidan Gillen. It’ll be in Irish cinemas on March 18th, before heading to UK screens on April 22nd. Take a look at the trailer below.

The Suicide Squad Get Graffiti Character Logo Posters

January 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

suicide-squad-cast-photo2-slideIt seems 2016 may be the year when popular franchises try something different, such as the X-Men spin-off Deadpool, which is so crazy it’s just been banned in China, and Rogue One, which promises to be a different kind of Star Wars story. There’s also Warner/DC’s Suicide Squad, which looks like it might be fun and does supposedly tie into the comic book universe they’re creating with the likes of Batman v Superman, but is likely to be rather different in tone.

To help us see this may not be a typical comic book flick, a set of graffiti-style character posters have been released, which you can take a look at below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An all-star roster of actors has joined new action adventure Suicide Squad, bringing DC Comics’ super villain team to the big screen under the direction of David Ayer (“Fury”). The film will star two-time Oscar nominee Will Smith (“The Pursuit of Happyness,” “Ali,” “Focus”) as Deadshot; Joel Kinnaman (“Run All Night”, “Robocop”) as Rick Flagg; Margot Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Focus,” upcoming the “Tarzan” movie) as Harley Quinn; Oscar winner Jared Leto (“Dallas Buyers Club,” “Alexander”) as the Joker; Jai Courtney (“Divergent,” “The Water Diviner”) as Boomerang; and Cara Delevingne (“Anna Karenina,” upcoming “Pan”) as Enchantress.

‘Ayer is also writing the script for Suicide Squad, which is being produced by Charles Roven (“The Dark Knight” trilogy, upcoming “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”) and Richard Suckle (“American Hustle”).  Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Colin Wilson and Geoff Johns are serving as executive producers.’ The film will be in cinemas in August, but you can take a look at the new posters below.

Steve Coogan & John C. Reilly Set For Laurel & Hardy Biopic

January 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

steve-coogan

It’s difficult to think of two actors who’d seem a good fit for a biopic of legendary silent movie comics Laurel & Hardy. However, THR reports the people behind a movie about the men have found two people who would seem to be perfect – Steve Coogan & John C. Reilly.

According to the trader paper, Stan & Ollie is ‘described as an “emotional tribute to two of the funniest men in movie history” and focuses on their real-life tour of the variety halls of the U.K. as aging stars in 1953. The now-famous tour would see the double act set out “with their golden era as the kings of Hollywood comedy now behind them.” But despite initially disappointing attendances, the shows would soon become hits, with Laurel and Hardy reconnecting with fans, old and new, while rediscovering how much they mean to each other as they come to terms with the end of their careers.’

That said, Stan Laurel never fully did come to terms with the end of his career, as it’s said he continued to write Laurel & Hardy skits and scripts even after Oliver Hardy died.

The project will reunite Coogan with his Philomena co-writer Jeff Pope, while Jon S. Baird (Filth) will direct. It’s not clear when the movie will shoot.
