Triple 9 Trailer – Chitwetel Ejiofor, Casey Affleck, Kate Winslet, Woody Harrelson & Aaron Paul star

November 11, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Triple-9---trailer-grab-1Triple 9, from The Road and Lawless director John Hillcoat certainly has a good cast, including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Casey Affleck, Kate Winslet, Woody Harrelson, Aaron Paul, Anthony Mackie, Norman Reedus, Gal Gadot and Clifton Collins Jr.

Now we get our first taste with a trailer, which you can watch below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When a crew of dirty cops is blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a virtually impossible heist, they realise the only way to pull it off is to manufacture a 999, police code for “officer down”. The chaos that ensues when a police officer is shot in the line of duty is just the diversion they’ll need to do the job, but whether they have the will to kill one of their own is an entirely different matter, triggering a breakneck, action packed finale tangled with double-crosses, greed and revenge.’

The film is due out in the UK on February 19th, 2016.

Gen Silent Trailer – Examining what happens when you’re old and gay in a new documentary

November 10, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gen-silentYesterday on the US network Logo, the documentary Gen Silent debuted, which looks at the rarely explored lives of older LGBT people.

They come from generations when being gay was illegal and many of whom fought for the rights of LGBT people to be able to live openly.

However those battles have sometimes left scars and now that they are aging (indeed some don’t come out until old age), they discover themselves in a world where the younger generations of LGBT aren’t interested in them, the support networks that exist for the elderly aren’t set up for them, and many saw their friends decimated by the AIDS crisis.

As a result, many are left lonely and isolated.

Stu Maddox told HuffPo, “The isolation was just… can’t describe it. We queer folk don’t have a patent on growing old alone but we definitely get a double dose of it because our support group is smaller. Even now, it’s more likely you have a brother or sister who has “issues” with you and won’t be there for you in the crunch, or that you lost a lot friends from AIDS in the 80s/90s, or maybe you just don’t want the married with children life. All of these things made me realize that it’s extra important to fill my life starting now with people who will really love me enough to wipe my bottom later on. Did I just say that? Yup. It’s true though.”

Take a look at the trailer for Gen Silent below.

Writer Ron Nyswaner Says That His Lesbian Drama Freeheld Was ‘De-gayed’

November 10, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ron-nyswanerRon Nyswaner may not be a household name but with his scripts for the likes of Girl’s Soldier and his Oscar-winning Philadelphia he’s an important figure in bringing LGBT stories to the mainstream. However while at the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Vanguard Awards on Saturday he was keen to point out that that the battle isn’t over, telling the audience that one of his recent gay-themed scripts ended up ‘de-gayed’.

That script was presumably for the recent Freeheld, which stars Ellen Page as Stacie Andree, who was denied the pension benefits of her longtime partner and New Jersey police detective Laurel Hester (Julianne Moore), when the latter became terminally ill. While Hester’s detective partner, Dane Wells (Michael Shannon), was conservative and initially surprised to learn of Hester’s sexual orientation, he stepped up to become the leader in the fight for Laurel’s rights to assign her benefits to Stacie. Steve Carell meanwhile plays the lawyer who helped take the case to court.

However the movie version wasn’t what Nyswaner had original intended, saying in his impassioned speech that, ‘For those of us who have that privilege I spoke of, earlier, of being artists — we have our challenges too. We must take care to protect our history and our culture. We must be careful — as we become mainstream — that we don’t forget we’re the descendants of outlaws and rebels. We must resist the tendency to be de-gayed.

‘One of my recent gay-themed projects had a lot of potential. But the producers became fearful. The gay characters were idealized. Their edges were smoothed out. The conflict between them was softened. Over my vigorous objections by the way, for the record.

‘The main characters were turned into Lesbians with lower case l.

‘Because God forbid someone might think we were making a movie about a couple of dykes. Out of fear, they were normalized. We must remember — and insist that others honor — our history and our very specific gay culture. We are the inheritors of a culture that was created from pain and invisibility. From being different.

‘And from that difference we created a powerful community that changed the world. Art about gay people has to recognize that power. The power of being different. We don’t have to be normalized to have all of our rights. And we don’t have to be normalized to be the main characters of film and TV shows. We can still be fags and dykes.

‘We need to have the courage to insist that our gay characters are created within the fullness of their humanity with all their flaws. Just like straight characters.

‘Tonight, I make this pledge to you. I’m done with fear. I will never work on something in which I don’t have some measure of artistic authority. I will create art in which gay characters are not normalized. Art that features LBGT characters who are fearless, powerful and scary motherf—ers. Maybe next year on ‘Homeland,’ Dar Adal will finally come out of the closet. Then, we’ll learn the true meaning of Special Ops.’

‘Didn’t You Know That All My Characters Are gay?’ Says Johnny Depp

November 10, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jack-sparrow-pirates-johnny-depp-slideJohnny Depp is still out promoting his latest movie, Black Mass, and that included a Q&A after an AFI screening, where he had a few things to say about his first time out as Jack Sparrow, including his fears that he was screwing it up as Jack Sparrow and was going to get fired,

The Guardian reports him as saying, “It trickled back to me somehow that, ‘Goddammit, Johnny Depp’s ruining the film! What is that thing? Is it drunk, is it gay?”

He then met on of the top studio brass who asked him, “‘What the fuck are you doing?’”

Depp then recounted, “When they asked if it was gay, I said: ‘Didn’t you know all my characters are gay?’”

To be honest with most actors it would seem like a joke, but many of Depp’s characters have been interpreted as being somewhere on the queer spectrum, from Willy Wonka to Tonto, so perhaps he’s not kidding at all.

It’s not the first time Depp has told the tale, but it is a good one.

November 10, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Finding-Dory-slideMany people old and young will be pleased to hear than next year we’re heading back under the sea with Pixar for Finding Dory, and back into the world of Marlin, Nemo and the forgetful Dory, who suddenly remembers something and sets off a new adventure.

Here’s the short synopsis: ‘Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Dory” reunites everyone’s favorite forgetful blue tang, Dory, with her friends Nemo and Marlin on a search for answers about her past. What can she remember? Who are her parents? And where did she learn to speak Whale?’

The first trailer has now arrived, which you can take a look at below. It certainly looks like it might recapture the magic that made Finding Nemo the highest grossing animated film ever at the time of its release.

James Bond & Jason Bourne Are In Love In A Fun New Vid

November 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

matt-damon-james-bondEver since the first Jason Bourne movie arrived there’s been a perception that it’s in competition with Bond, but as a new Funny Or Die video suggests, the truth is rather different – James and Jason are in love.

Yep, they might not be telling anyone (they are spies after all), but the two secret agents are harbouring a passion for one another that they can’t contain.

Now we know why 007 seems to glum in the likes of Skyfall and Spectre, as he’s without the love of his life.

It’s all done through some fun editing and effects, to create a video that’s well worth a watch. Take a look at the Funny Or Die vid below.

November 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Finding-Dory-posterPixar have certainly given up on their old maxim not to many make sequels, but so far that’s only been a good thing. It also means we’re going to get to return to the ocean for Finding Dory, which has just released its first poster, with a trailer promised for tomorrow.

Ellen DeGeneres and Albert Brooks reprise the roles of Dory and Marlin, with the plot following Dory after she has a vague memory that she can’t quite work out, but realises that her parents don’t know who she is. As a result she sets off to find the Monterey Marine Life Institute, taking Nemo and Marlin with her.

The movie will arrive in cinemas next summer.

Alice Through The Looking Glass Character Posters Emerge

November 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

alice-through-character-poster2-slideA few days ago the first trailer for the sequel, Alice Through The Looking Glass arrived, which has now been followed by these rather cool pics, which show us four returning characters alongside Sacha Baron Cohen’s villain new character, Time.

They’re all holding a device that is central to the plot, which you can find out a little more about in the synopsis:

‘In Disney’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” an all-new spectacular adventure featuring the unforgettable characters from Lewis Carroll’s beloved stories, Alice returns to the whimsical world of Underland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter. Directed by James Bobin, who brings his own unique vision to the spectacular world Tim Burton created on screen in 2010 with “Alice in Wonderland,” the film is written by Linda Woolverton based on characters created by Lewis Carroll and produced by Joe Roth, Suzanne Todd and Jennifer Todd and Tim Burton with John G. Scotti serving as executive producer.

‘“Alice Through the Looking Glass” reunites the all-star cast from the worldwide blockbuster phenomenon, including: Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska and Helena Bonham Carter along with the voices of Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen and Timothy Spall. We are also introduced to several new characters: Zanik Hightopp (Rhys Ifans), the Mad Hatter’s father and Time himself (Sacha Baron Cohen), a peculiar creature who is part human, part clock.

‘Alice Kingsleigh (Wasikowska) has spent the past few years following in her father’s footsteps and sailing the high seas. Upon her return to London, she comes across a magical looking glass and returns to the fantastical realm of Underland and her friends the White Rabbit (Sheen), Absolem (Rickman), the Cheshire Cat (Fry) and the Mad Hatter (Depp), who is not himself. The Hatter has lost his Muchness, so Mirana (Hathaway) sends Alice on a quest to borrow the Chronosphere, a metallic globe inside the chamber of the Grand Clock which powers all time. Returning to the past, she comes across friends – and enemies – at different points in their lives, and embarks on a perilous race to save the Hatter before time runs out. Presented in Digital 3D™, Real D 3D and IMAX® 3D, Disney’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass” opens in UK cinemas on May 27, 2016.’ [Read more…]

November 8, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Anthony Topham, Alex Hammons, Tia Kenny
Director: Mike Buonaiuto
Running Time: 29 mins
Certificate: NR
Release Date: November 3rd 2015

There aren’t too many gay-themed films out there that delve into the sci-fi arena, partly because they are often difficult to make on the sort of shoestring budget most gay movies have at their disposal. However Mike Buonaiuto’s Credence has set out to do just that, as well as to challenge stereotypical portrayals of LGBT people in general.

The half-hour film follows a gay couple and their child dealing with the imminent Armageddon. Having escaped disasters in London, they are now living in a remote cabin, awaiting a meteor that is going to destroy humanity. There is one glimmer of hope – a rescue plan to relocate a select band of people to another planet on a rocket. [Read more…]

Apropos Of Nothing: Alex Minsky Gets Naked For His New Calendar

November 7, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

alex-minsky-2016-calendar-cover-slideAlex Minsky has gained a legion of fans over the past couple of years as a heavily tattooed model who isn’t afraid to shed his clothes in front of the camera (even if the only time full frontal shots we’ve seen arrived it’s because they were leaked).

It’s not bad for a man who in 2009 was at death’s door after a roadside explosive hit his humvee in Afghanistan, resulting in the Marine going into a coma for 47 days and needing his right leg amputated. Since then he’s also had to deal with alcohol abuse and his brother dying from a drug overdose.

It’s quite a life the Purple Heart recipient has led, and even now his pics help change people’s perception of those with disabilities – while also making them dribble at his hot-ness.

Minksy is now releasing his 2016 calendar, which as you’d hope includes quite a few nearly nude pics for us to behold. You can take a look at a few of them below. Shot by Eric Schwabel, you can order a copy here.
