Jack O’Connell & Julia Roberts Up To Join George Clooney In Money Monster

November 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jack-oconnell-shirtlessJodie Foster is stepping behind the camera again for Money Monster and she’s building a great cast to do it. George Clooney has been attached for a while, and now THR reports that Julia Roberts and Jack O’Connell are in talks to join him.

The film is about Lee Gates, a TV personality whose insider trading tips have made him the money guru of Wall Street. However when Kyle, a viewer who lost all of his family’s money on a bad tip from Lee, holds Lee hostage on air, ratings soar as the entire country tunes in to this media frenzy to find out just how much a man’s life is worth.

O’Connell will be Kyle, while Robert will be the show’s producer, who must help uncover the truth behind a tangle of big money lies in order to keep Gates alive.

The near real-time drama is set to shoot sometime next year.

Jude Law Will Be Knights Of The Round Table’s Villain Opposite Charlie Hunnam’s Arthur

November 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jude-lawIt appears there’s going to be a bit of a Sherlock Holmes reunion, as Variety reports that Jude Law is likely to reunite with director Guy Ritchie for Knights Of The Round Table: King Arthur. However he won’t be on the good guy side this time, as he’s apparently up to play the villain.

There’s no news on exactly who Law will play. The hope is that this will be the first part of a six-film series, so Law could be in line to play a baddie just in this movie, or a threat that will be present throughout the franchise. If he’s the latter he will presumably be the traitor Mordred.

Charlie Hunnam is set to play Arthur, with Astrid Berges-Frisbey as Guinevere. Sadly while Idris Elba was previously attached to play Arthur’s mentor, he’s apparently no longer involved.

The plan is to shoot early next year, with a July 22nd, 2016 release planned.

Daniel Bruhl Joins Captain America: Civil War (& Possibly Doctor Strange) In A Villainous Role

November 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Daniel-BruhlIt’s always busy in the world of Marvel, and with Avengers 2 and Ant Man wrapped and now in post-production, they’re already hard at work on putting the pieces together for Captain America: Civil War. Now another has slotted into place with the company revealing they’ve added Daniel Bruhl (Rush, Inglourious Basterds).

There’s no news on exactly who he’ll play, although most sources suggest he’s take on a villainous role in the movie – even with that, there’s disagreement over whether he’ll be the main villain or not.

Some have also linked to announcement to the related rumour that the Doctor Strange villain will be introduced in Civil War, and that this is the role Bruhl has signed on to play. At the moment this seems like the most likely scenario.

Anthony and Joe Russo return to direct, with a May 6th, 2016 release set.

Luke Pasqualino Will Be A Male Prostitute In The Gay-Themed Retake, Which Needs Your Funding Help

November 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

luke-pasqualinoFans of British TV may recognise Luke Pasqualino from the likes of Skins, The Borgias and The Musketeers. He’s also appeared in Park Chan Wook’s Snowpiercer and the TV movie, Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome. However he’s now heading into American indie drama territory playing a male prostitute in the LGBT-themed Retake.

The news comes as the film launches a Kickstarter campaign to rise the final cash it needs to get in front of the camera, with a funding goal of $75,000.

Here’s the film’s synopsis: ‘A young male prostitute (played by Luke Pasqualino) is hired by Jonathan, a lonely middle-aged man, to be his companion on a road trip from San Francisco to the Grand Canyon.

‘Jonathan creates a role for the escort to play for the duration of the trip: “Brandon.” Eager to leave his own past behind, the escort accepts the role and they set off on their drive.  “Brandon” quickly comes to realize he’s playing a pivotal part of Jonathan’s desire to relive his past.

“‘Brandon” and Jonathan — two damaged souls driving to the Grand Canyon, one trying to remember his past; the other trying to forget. RETAKE is an exploration of love, loss, identity, and the delicate balance of moving toward an uncertain future.’

Nick Corporon, whose short film, Barbie Boy, played at over 40 film festivals worldwide and won multiple audience awards, will helm from his own script (working from a story by Justin Bailey, Nick Corporon, Collin Brazie, and Gareth Dutton). He comments, “Our challenge in casting Brandon was to find an actor who is not just incredibly talented but fearless. Luke has established himself as dynamic and bold performer. His vivid take on Brandon will surprise those who have been with him since Skins.”

Also cast in the movie is Kit Williamson as Scotty. Kit is known to many for creating and starring in  Eastsiders, the great gay-themed web series that made the leap to Logo TV. He’s also had a recurring role on Mad Men.

The hope is to shoot the movie in early 2015, but before that it needs to hits its crowdfunding goal. Take a look below at the fundraising video as well as Corporon’s movie Barbie boy, and if you like what you see, you can head over to Kickstarter for more info. [Read more…]

Is Brenton Thwaites Hinting That He’s Bisexual?

November 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

brenton-thwaitesHello, and welcome to today’s edition of the internet possibly reading too much into off the cuff comments a celebrity made. The current person up for speculation is 25-year-old Aussie Brenton Thwaites, who started out in Home & Away before moving onto roles in the likes of Oculus, The Giver and Maleficent, and will soon be seen in Son Of A Gun and Gods Of Egypt.

Now though there’s lots of people wondering whether he’s bisexual, due to an interview he gave to TheFix, where one fan question was about what he looks for in a partner.

Thwaites replied, “Male or female?”

When told “both”, his main response was that what he looks for is “very different”.

However if you were hoping to find out what you need to do to get on his good side, you’re out of luck as he doesn’t really elaborate beyond peanut butter being important.

You can watch the video here, with Thwaites talking about relationships about six and a half minutes in.

So is he gay, straight or bisexual? To be honest we probably know as much about that now as we did yesterday.

Zachary Quinto Defends His Comments About Gay Men’s Complacency Over AIDS & PrEP

November 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zachary-quintoWhile there have been an increasing number of celebs coming out in the last few years, generally they’ve stayed clear of talking about divisive subjects within the gay community (sure they were generally for marriage equality, but that was hardly contentious for their fans).

However now Zachary Quinto has stepped up to talk about gay men’s attitude to AIDS in the face of rising infection rates among young people and a decrease in condom use. Talking to Out, he says, “I think there’s a tremendous sense of complacency in the LGBT community. AIDS has lost the edge of horror it possessed when it swept through the world in the ’80s. Today’s generation sees it more as something to live with and something to be much less fearful of. And that comes with a sense of, dare I say, laziness.”

He also urges caution about the emergence of PrEP of the danger of people seeing it as a reason not to be as diligent about safer sex, adding “We need to be really vigilant and open about the fact that these drugs are not to be taken to increase our ability to have recreational sex. There’s an incredible underlying irresponsibility to that way of thinking… and we don’t yet know enough about this vein of medication to see where it’ll take us down the line.”

Quinto’s comments have attracted some criticism, with some feeling he’s blaming those who get infected, while others have suggested his comments are part of a hysteria around AIDS which belongs in the past (partly because of how it stigmatises those living with HIV and AIDS). However others have rallied to his defence, saying he’s addressing an important subject that is perhaps ignored too much, despite the fact HIV diagnoses are growing in many places, and that while PrEP has been painted in some corners as being one step from a vaccine, in reality the true facts about its effectiveness are still emerging.

Due to the controversy, Zachary has decided it would be a good idea to expand and explain exactly what he was trying to say in a piece published over at Huffpo. In that essay he says, ‘I am thrilled that the comments I made in my cover interview for OUT 100 have generated a spirited dialogue about HIV/AIDS – and the advent of a whole new class of preventative life saving medication. I am less thrilled that they were almost entirely misconstrued. Perhaps I could have been more articulate — but my comments were never meant to be incendiary or judgmental.

‘I am a staunch advocate for the rights and well-being of the LGBT community. I have deep compassion and empathy for people living with HIV/AIDS. I am assuredly not internally homophobic or poz-phobic or willfully ignorant regarding this issue. I am a well-adjusted and well-educated gay man. I have read and understand the way PrEP works, and at least the most basic science behind its practical applications – although I am always open to learning more… I did not intend to make generalizations about the LGBT community at large – or people living with HIV/AIDS or people in love with someone living with HIV/AIDS.

‘What troubles me – and what I was trying to speak to in my interview – is an attitude among (some of) the younger generation of gay men – that we can let our guard down against this still very real threat to our collective well-being. I have had numerous conversations in my travels with young gay people who see the threat of HIV as diminished to the point of near irrelevance. I have heard too many stories of young people taking PrEP as an insurance policy against their tendency toward unprotected non-monogamous sex. THAT is my only outrage…

‘I was simply trying to assert my belief that we need to be especially vigilant and accountable to ourselves and one another at this moment in our evolution. It is a tremendous advancement in the fight against the disease that scientists have developed this particular medication. But it’s still early — that’s all.’

New Fifty Shades Of Grey Trailer – Jamie Dornan seduces Dakota Johnson

November 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Fifty-Shades-QuadThe moment Universal bought the rights to Fifty Shades Of Grey, many wondered how they were going to turn the mommy porn book into a Hollywood studio movie. After all, the US ratings systems isn’t exactly known for having a reasonable attitude to sex on screen, especially with S&M thrown in.

Well, I think it’s fair to say that the sex will be toned down (Jamie Dornan even had a ‘no penis’ clause in his contract), and on the evidence of this trailer they’re going for style and sensuality – although I’m sure the sex won’t be completely absent, as the second half of the trailer suggests.

I was also a bit of a fan of this shot:

fifty-shades-trailer2-jamie-dornan-shirtless

Here’s the synopsis: ‘FIFTY SHADES OF GREY is the hotly anticipated film adaptation of the bestselling book that has become a global phenomenon. Since its release, the “Fifty Shades” trilogy has been translated in 52 languages worldwide and sold more than 90 million copies in e-book and print—making it one of the biggest and fastest-selling book series ever.

‘Stepping into the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, who have become iconic to millions of readers, are Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. Joining them in the cast are Luke Grimes as Christian’s brother, Elliot; Victor Rasuk as Anastasia’s close friend, José; and Jennifer Ehle as Anastasia’s mother, Carla. FIFTY SHADES OF GREY is being directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and produced by Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti alongside E. L. James, the creator of the series. The screenplay is by Kelly Marcel, with revisions by Patrick Marber and Mark Bomback.’

It’ll be in cinemas on Valentine’s 2015. [Read more…]

Escobar: Paradise Lost Trailer – Benicio Del Toro & Josh Hutcherson take on the drug kingpin

November 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

escobar-paradise-lostWhile he may not exactly have been the nicest guy in the world, Pablo Escobar is certainly a fascinating figure. He became a billionaire by getting drugs into the US and as a results was one of the world’s most wanted men. However his cash also meant it was difficult to touch him, as he could pay Colombian officials off and have anyone killed he wanted.

He was revered by many in the area he lived as a kind of Robin Hood figure, as he used large chunks of the cash he made to help the local area. Incidentally, he also built a zoo in the compound where he lived, and now there are hippos living wild there, as while the house has fallen into disrepair it’s proved impossible to move the semi-aquatic mammals.

Escobar: Paradise Lost looks at part of the drug kingpin’s story, following young surfer Nick (Josh Hutcherson) who thinks all his dreams have come true when he goes to visit his brother in Columbia. Against an idyllic backdrop of blue lagoons and white beaches he falls madly in love with a beautiful Colombian girl called Maria. It all seems perfect until he meets her uncle, one Pablo Escobar (Benicio Del Toro.

The film will be out in the US on January 16th, but there’s no UK date as yet. [Read more…]

Michelle MacLaren In Talks To Direct Wonder Woman

November 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

michelle-maclarenHollywood is general has a hideous record of giving major movies to female directors – even the first female Best Director Oscar winner, Kathryn Bigelow, didn’t find that success until she stepped away from Hollywood and went looking for films in the indie realm. Superhero movies are no exception, as while Thor: The Dark World was nearly helmed by Patty Jenkins, she was eventually replaced by a man, much to Natalie Portman’s annoyance.

However now it may finally happen, as Variety reports that Breaking Bad producer/director Michelle MacLaren is in talks to direct Wonder Woman for Warner Bros. As with many other directors who’ve been inducted into the world of Hollywood special effects tentpoles in the last couple of years, she’s also worked on Game Of Thrones.

There’s no news on the plot of the film, although Gal Gadot will play the role, with the character being introduced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Although there have been some suggestions the film will take us back to the characters origins, at the moment it’s impossible to say.

Assuming MacLaren gets the job, she’ll be shooting the movie next year, for release June 23rd, 2017.

Jai Courtney May Join Suicide Squad As Deadshot

November 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jai-CourtneyJai Courtney didn’t hit the big time with A Good Day To Die Hard as many expected, but he’s got another shot at the a-list next year playing Kyle Reese in Terminator: Genisys. Now he’s in the process of booking another major role, as Variety reports he’s in talks to star in Warner/DC’s Suicide Squad.

It’s suggested he’ll be Floyd Lawton, a.k.a. Deadshot, who will be one of the film’s array of supervillains, who have all been captured but are offered the chance for redemption by taking on a mission from which none of them are expected to return alive.

It’s previously been reported that Margot Robbie is being eyed to play Harley Quinn and Jared Leto for The Joker, it’s also suggested Tom Hardy and Will Smith may be involved, with Jesse Eisenberg possibly reprising his role as Lex Luthor from Batman v Superman.

David Ayer is set to direct, with an early 2015 shoot expected. An August 5th, 2016 release date has already been set.
