Queerpocalypse Comedy Short – What happens after the end for two queer friends?

September 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

queerpocalyse-second-cityThere have been plenty jokes made about men and women having to deal with what to do after the apocalypse, with the future of the human race resting on their shoulders. However there’s no guarantee that if there were only two people left it would be even share the same sexuality.

With their funny new video, the Second City Network looks at the effects of the Queerpocalypse, when ‘the human race is extinct except for a couple of queers.’

What are they going to do? And is it going to be the end of humankind?

Second City is of course the famed improvisational comedy troupe that started in Chicago and spawned the likes of Harold Ramis, Alan Arkin, John Belushi, Bill Murray, Jane Lynch, Mike Myers and Steve Carell. [Read more…]

Arabic Network Decides Daniel Radcliffe Is A ‘Disgraceful’ Homosexual

September 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Daniel-RadcliffeA few months ago Daniel Radcliffe said words to the effect that you must be doing something if people are speculating about your sexuality. However I doubt even he would have thought he’d be included on a list where the Middle East Broadcasting Center (MBC) decided to ‘name and shame’ him on a homophobic list of gay people.

Radcliffe is straight – although a staunch gay ally – but he’s not the only inaccuracy on the stunningly shoddily researched piece.

Here is a translation of that list of celebrities who ‘shocked the world with their announcement of their sexuality’, via Gay Star News:

  • Ricky Martin: “One of the first who announced their sexuality.”

Cameron Diaz: “Stated that she prefers making love to women even though she was in a relationship with Justin Timberlake. She doesn’t mind making love to a man but prefers having a long-term relationship with a woman.”

Jodie Foster: “Got married to her partner, the photographer Alexandra Hedison, lately.”

Daniel Radcliffe: “Harry Potter’s actor, announced his sexuality.”

Lindsay Lohan: “Has previously announced her homosexuality. She was engaged to Samantha Ronson and they were planning to get married but they broke up before marriage.”

Ellen DeGeneres: ‘The star and famous TV presenter preferred to get married to her partner Portia De Rossi and they have been living together for a couple of years.”

Elton John: “The global musician has not just announced his sexuality, but got married and wore a wedding dress from his boyfriend David Furnish and had kids using surrogacy.”

Neil Patrick Harris: “His boyfriend and him had twins the same way as Elton.”

It won’t surprise many of you that Cameron Diaz never said she preferred being in long-term relationships with women (although she has said she’s bisexual), while Lohan isn’t exclusively homosexual, and Ricky Martin didn’t come out officially until 2010. And while Elton John has worn dresses to parties, he didn’t put one on for either his civil partnership or his wedding to David Furnish.

MBC is a free-to-air satellite broadcasting company located in Dubai, which reaches around 150 million Arabic speakers in various countries around the world.

The network has previously seemed relatively neutral on gay issues, although it seems this is evidence of a more negative approach, which comes at a time of increasingly hardline actions against LGBTI people in several Arabic-speaking nations.

New Kingsman: The Secret Service Trailer – Fresh look at Colin Firth in Matthew Vaughn’s film

September 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kingsman-the-secret-service-slideMatthew Vaughn has had great success taking properties with plenty of potential but which aren’t necessarily that well known to the masses – such as Stardust and Kick-Ass – and he’ll be hoping to do the same with Kingsman: The Secret Service, which like Kick-Ass is based on a comic by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons.

Now a new trailer has arrived which you can watch below.

The film tells the story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.

Colin Firth (The King’s Speech), Samuel L. Jackson (Captain America: The First Avenger), Taron Egerton (The Smoke, Lewis) and Michael Caine (The Dark Knight Rises) star. It’s due out in the UK on January 29th, 2015. [Read more…]

September 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Aaron-Paul-slideMiramax is pulling together a cast of hot young actors for The 9th Life of Louis Drax. Jamie Dornan was cast a couple of weeks ago, and now he’s been joined by Aaron Paul, according to THR.

The is based on Liz Jensen’s best-selling novel of the same title which begins on Louis Drax’s 9th birthday, when he suffers a near-fatal fall. In order to reveal the strange circumstances surrounding the young boy’s accident – Dr. Allan Pascal (Jamie Dornan) is ‘drawn into a thrilling mystery, testing the boundaries of fantasy and reality.’

Paul will play the father of the young boy, who becomes the initial subject of the investigation into the accident.

Alexandre Aja is directing from a screenplay by Max Minghella (who took on the project following the death of his father, English Patient director Anthony Minghella, who’d previously been developing the movie).

Filming will kick off next month in Canada.

Liam Neeson Is Back & Getting Angry In The First Taken 3 Pics

September 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

taken-3-pic1Bryan Mills is coming back with Taken 3, officially known as Tak3n, and now the first pictures from the movie has arrived, which suggests he’s not going to have calmed down and spend the entire running time knitting.

USA Today has the pics – which feature Neeson, Maggie Grace and Taken newbie Forest Whitaker – and also offers some of our first info on the plot.

This time around Mills is framed for murder, with Neeson saying, “I have to go on the run, I’ll put it that way, from the not-so-lawful types and the lawful authorities. Bryan Mills served his country faithfully, but now even they are after him. They must not like me. This time, no more traveling. If my daughter was ‘taken’ again on a trip, Bryan Mills would have to be certifiably locked up for bad parenting.”

He adds, “Bryan Mills wants to fight quick, using the dirtiest moves possible to finish. It’s not like, ‘Put your fists up, fellow!’ Why fight like that when you can kick someone in the kneecap and be done with it?”

Its’ the first Taken film for Forest Whitaker, who plays a law enforcement agent in pursuit of Mills. he comments,”People are attracted to quiet heroes. Liam’s presence has that. He gives people a sense of comfort and security. And he’s an excellent actor… There’s no big fight between us, which I would have loved. That will have to wait until Taken 4.”

We’re unlikely to get that further sequel though, with Neeson saying, “It’s a rollicking good story. But I think this is the end. If I feel audiences saying, ‘Come on, he’s 62, enough is enough,’ I’m very sensitive to that and if I pick up that vibe it will all stop. And I’ll start playing dads or grandfathers,. But I keep myself pretty fit and my knees are still great. And it’s fun.”

Take a look at the kids above and below. [Read more…]

Stephen Fry’s New Memoir, More Fool Me, Due Out This Friday

September 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

more-fool-me-stephen-fry-front-cover-slideStephen Fry sits alongside the likes of Ian McKellen as one of the most beloved people in the pantheon of famous gay men and women. Now the polymath is letting us back into his life again as his latest memoir, More Fool Me, is due to be published in the UK on September 26th.

In 1997 he brought us Moab Is My Washpot, which covered the first 20 years of his life. Then in 2010 we got the The Fry Chronicles, which looked at his early success in the 1980s. More Fool Me takes us into one of the most tumultuous times in his life. As the 80s drew to a close, he discovered a most enjoyable way to burn the candle at both ends, and took to excess like a duck to water.

Writing and recording by day, and haunting a never ending series of celebrity parties, drinking dens, and poker games by night, in a ludicrous and impressive act of bravado, he fooled all those except the very closest to him, some of whom were most enjoyably engaged in the same dance. He was – to all intents and purposes – a high functioning addict. Blazing brightly and partying wildly as the 80s turned to the 90s, AIDS became an epidemic and politics turned really nasty, he was so busy, so distracted by the high life, that he could hardly see the inevitable, headlong tumble that must surely follow…

Containing raw, electric extracts from his diaries of the time, More Fool Me looks at a man driven to create and to entertain – revealing a side to himself he has long kept hidden.

Alongside the release of the book, Picturehouse Entertainment and Penguin Books are broadcasting Stephen Fry’s one man show at the Royal Festival Hall via satellite in high definition to over 280 cinemas in the UK on the 1st October at 7.30pm. The event will also be broadcast globally to over 130 cinemas across Australia, New Zealand, Canada, German, Denmark, Austria, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, and Norway (although not all these countries will get it on October 1st). It will be the biggest global book launch event ever staged. You can watch the trailer for the event below.

Fans are also being invited to follow & tweet @MoreFoolFry on #FryDay 26th September (you can also follow his own account @StephenFry), which will feature exclusive content, quotes and witticisms on Twitter – drawing on everything from a Bit of Fry & Laurie, QI, to Blackadder. That #Fryday will see aslo Stephen answering fan questions in a global Apple iBooks Twitter Q&A – This will kick off at 2pm Friday 26 September the first of it’s kind to mark the release of a book in the UK. Get involved & follow @iBooks. [Read more…]

Sequel To Del Shores’ Gay-Themed Cult Classic Sordid Lives Announced, With Bonnie Bedelia & Leslie Jordan Set To Return

September 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

very-sordid-wedding-announcement-picWhen Sordid Lives was released in 2000 even creator Del Shores probably never believed the life the film version of his 1996 play would take on. The movie quickly became a cult classic, and in 2008 even spawned a short-lived TV show.

Now it’s coming back to life once again with the announcement that a sequel is being prepared, called A Very Sordid Wedding. It also suggests the cast have fond memories of being involved with it, as after being in both the film and TV show, Bonnie Bedelia, Leslie Jordan and Caroline Rhea are all set to return.

Also returning are Newell Alexander (August: Osage County), David Steen (Django Unchained), Sarah Hunley, Rosemary Alexander, Ann Walker, David Cowgill and Kirk Geiger.

The sequel picks up 16 years after the events of the first film. As the original film explored the journey of coming out in a small, conservative Texas town, the sequel dives into the impact of the advancement of same-sex marriage into that same community of now beloved characters.

Once again Del Shores will write and direct, and he needs your help, as he’s launched an Indiegogo fundraising campaign to assemble the project and secure investor financing.

In 2000, Sordid Lives stormed the film festival circuit winning multiple Best Feature awards, Best Soundtrack, Best Actor and 13 Audience Awards.  In 2001, the film opened to mixed reviews, but word-of-mouth drove audiences to the film and it ran for over a year in theatres in Ft. Lauderdale, Provincetown and Dallas and still holds the record for the longest running film in Palm Springs, with 96 weeks at the Camelot Theatres.

The film was released on DVD in 2003, selling over 300,000 units worldwide and has just been re-released in the US by Wolfe Video as a DVD/Blu-ray combo pack with new cast interviews. The oft-quoted Sordid Lives has become a staple in gay culture at video bars.

Shores comments, “Through the years, I have been overwhelmed by the number of people who have shared how much they relate to my Sordid Lives family, and how many gay men and women used it to come out to their conservative families through the humor of the film.  I never felt, like much of the Sordid Lives fan base, that I was done with the denizens of Winters, Texas.  I’m excited for this next chapter exploring the advancement of equality to finish the story of these characters that so many people have grown to love.  The fans have begged and pleaded for it, and we are co-dependent people pleasers. So here we go.”

Take a look at a message from Shores and the cast below, and if you want to help out, head over to IndieGoGo. [Read more…]

Apropos Of Nothing: Orthodox Priests Return With A Sexy New 2015 Calendar

September 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

orthodox-calendar-2015For the last couple of years Romania has been bringing us a bit of a treat – a calendar full of scantily clad ‘Orthodox Priests’ – put out in support of LGBT rights. Now it’s returning for its third installment and to get us excited the cover and a preview video have been released.

It won’t come as much of a shock to discover that the notoriously homophobic orthodox branch of Christianity hasn’t had a change of heart and that these aren’t real priests. Instead they’re young men from what’s described as an ‘orthodox background’, who pose for the calendar.

This year’s edition, called ‘S.A.L.I.G.I.A., apparently pays tribute to social tolerance, ‘illustrating the ancient sins forgotten by a declining Church obsessed with demonising the LGBT community’. And for the first time it’s coming in two flavours, a mildly titillating scantily clad version and an even more risqué ‘explicit’ edition. There’ll also be a ‘making of…’ DVD you can get a preview of below. You can order your copy here. [Read more…]

First Look At Genndy Tartakovsky’s CGI Popeye Movie

September 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

popeye-animation-testIt’s not too surprising that Sony decided it would be a good idea to make a 3D CG Popeye movie, but how the character would look was another question. Now we get to take a look with a featurette that ends with a look at Genndy Tartakovsky’s Animation Test for the movie.

There are a few changes from the classic cartoons, not least that Popeye has been scrubbed up with his tattoos removed and his ever-present pipe has been taken away too.

We still have to wait a while for the final movie though, as it’s not due out until 2016.

Genndy Tartakovsky made his name working on programmes like Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack and Star Wars: Clone Wars, and made his feature debut with Hotel Transylvania. [Read more…]
