Happy Christmas Trailer – Anna Kendrick & Joe Swanberg have festive issues

May 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although Happy Christmas doesn’t sound like anything particularly special on its face, the fact it stars Anna Kendrick has to give us hope.

The trailer for the movie is here, so we can all get a taste.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When Jenny (Anna Kendrick), a hard partying 20-something, moves in with Kelly (Melanie Lynskey), a budding novelist, her film director husband (Joe Swanberg) and their two-year-old son after a break up, the family’s idyllic life is shaken. Jenny begins a rocky relationship with their baby sitter-cum-pot dealer (Mark Webber), and she and a friend, Carson (Lena Dunham), bring Kelly to the realization that an evolution in her life, career and relationship is necessary for her happiness. A new comedy from the director of DRINKING BUDDIES.’

Despite the title although as you might expect, it arrives in the US on VOD on June 26th, and in cinemas on July 25th. [Read more…]

New Pics From Disney’s Animated Marvel Movie Big Hero 6

May 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

big-hero-6-pic1Many wondered how Disney would integrate Marvel when they bought the comic company. Largely they’ve left them to their own very successful devices, but one bit of synergy they did put into motion was a Disney animated movie based on Marvel’s Big Hero 6.

Now three new pics from the film have been released, which you can see above and below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“Big Hero 6” is a heartfelt comedy adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius—thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tamago, clean freak Wasabi No-Ginger, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion—a cutting-edge robot named Baymax—and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery.

Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action and all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Big Hero 6” is directed by Don Hall (“Winnie the Pooh”) and Chris Williams (“Bolt”), and produced by Roy Conli (“Tangled”). The film hits theaters in 3D on November 7, 2014. Juliette Lewis & Molly Ringwald Join Jem and the Holograms

May 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Juliette-LewisThe Jem and the Holograms adaptation is fast coming together with two new actresses signing up for the movie – Juliette Lewis and Molly Ringwald. They’ve come on late as the Universal and Hasbro movie is already shooting in LA. under the direction of Jon M. Chu.

Aubrey Peeples is playing Jerrica, a young orphan who becomes a rock star named Jem, with the help of some high-tech earrings and her best friends (Stefanie Scott (Kimber), Aurora Perrineau (Shana) and Hayley Kiyoko (Aja)). Ryan Guzman is set to be Rio, the Holograms’ manager and Jem’s love interest.

It’s not clear who Juliette Lewis or Molly Ringwald will play, although there’s some speculation they’ll be members of the evil Riot Girl band, which is led by Phyllis “Pizzazz” Gabor, a spoiled child living off her dad’s money and trying to upstage Jem every chance she gets.

It would be particularly fitting for Lewis, as she fronted her own band Juliette and the Licks until 2009, before going solo.

The film’s due out next year.

Lost River Teaser Trailer – Matt Smith gets muscly & Iain De Caestecker watches in Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut

May 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Matt Smith has been working out and this first teaser for Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut wants to prove it – after all, Smith spends a good chunk of it repeating ‘Look at my muscles’ over and over again.

It’s a little odd, slightly hyper-real, a bit ethereal and very intriguing, even if it doesn’t go that deep into the more fantastical elements of the movie.

The film has been described as being ‘Set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, BILLY, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while BONES, her eighteen-year-old son, discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive.’

Iain De Caestecker, who co-stars and is the other main presence in the trailer, told Empire last year, “There’s my character, Bones, his mother and his younger brother. There’s also a girl next door played by Saoirse Ronan, called Rat. It’s about this family living in a town called Lost River, which is perhaps a place that was once full of family and happiness and love, and is now this town that’s slowly descending into a place without any hope. This family is holding onto the foundations of their house and everything they think they need to hold onto.” [Read more…]

Boyfriends Michael Urie & Ryan Spahn Take On A Gay Comedy

May 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

michael-urie-ryan-spahnChicago theatre company About Face Theatre’s Pride Performance Series just got a little bit starrier, as The Advocate reports that Ugly Betty’s Michael Urie and his real-life boyfriend Ryan Spahn will kick things off with a reading of The Last Sunday in June by gay playwright Jonathan Tolins.

They will play ‘Tom and Michael [who] intend to spend the day planning their impending move from the Big Apple to the upstate town of Nyack, but their plans are rerouted as one friend after another drops by to view the parade from the window of their Christopher Street apartment. An afternoon originally designated for things domestic instead turns into a series of conversations about relationships, self-acceptance and the very meaning of what it is to be gay, eventually calling into question Tom and Michael’s relationship itself.’

The play first premiered back in 2003 at Off-Broadway’s Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, but this performance will take place at the Greenhouse Theater in Chicago on June 2nd. You can find out more here.

Urie is actually in the Windy City with his one-man show, Buyer & Cellar (which was also written by Tolins), which runs until June 15 at the Broadway Playhouse.

Hugh Dancy Up For Rupert Everett’s Oscar Wilde Biopic The Happy Prince

May 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hugh-dancyHugh Dancy may spend part of the year being a bit nuts in Hannibal, but now he’s got a plan for the autumn, as ScreenDaily reports that he’s signed on for Rupert Everett’s long-gestating Oscar Wilde biopic, The Happy Prince.

Everett has been planning the movie, which will also serve as his feature directorial debut, since 2012, but now he’s finally pulling it together and hopes to shoot this October.

The film is said to focus on Oscar’s final days. It will see Wilde considering his own failure through his trademark wit and irony. After his imprisonment for homosexuality, Wilde spent his days in self-imposed exile in France. He briefly reunited with his love, Lord Alfred Douglas, but was kept away from his children. Although he published The Ballad Of Reading Gaol, he did very little writing and his health began to fail (partly due to poverty). He died of cerebral meningitis at the age of 46.

ScreenDaily doesn’t say who Dancy will play, but Lord Alfred Douglas would be a smart bet.

Colin Firth, Edward Fox, Emily Watson and Tom Wilkinson are also onboard the movie, which plan a very multi-national shoot taking in Italy, Belgium, France and the UK.

Alfonso Cuaron In Talks For Harry Potter Spin-Off Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them

May 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Alfonso-CuaronFor many people the best of the Harry Potter movies is Prisoner Of Azkaban, partly because of the very human touches director Alfonso Cuaron brought to it. However he left Hogwarts after that movie, but now he’s may be returning to the Potter univeser, as Nikki Finke has tweeted:

‘I hear Alfonso Cuaron (‘Gravity’, ‘HP/Azkaban’) deep in talks to direct JK Rowling’s Harry Potter spinoff ‘Fantastic Beasts’. Perfect pick.’

Assuming Finke’s info is correct (which some are doubting, seeing as Cuaron is just coming off a Best Director Oscar for Gravity and could get anything he wanted off the ground), he would take on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, based on the textbook Harry uses at Hogwarts. Well, not the actual textbook, but it’s creation.

The film will follows the adventures of the book’s author Newt Scamander 70 years before the Harry Potter first arrives at Hogwarts, as he discovers the terrible beasties that feature in his book. The spin-off will introduce a new set of characters and creatures, although set in a Wizarding universe that will be familiar to HP fans.

JK Rowling herself has been writing the script, while Warner Bros. has set a November 18th, 2016 release date.

Batman & Superman Get Gay For One Another In A Funny New Parody Trailer

May 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

At the moment DC’s big 2016 superhero mash-up is going by the title Batman Vs. Superman, but in this funny new video from French YouTube comedy channel It’s Big!, it’s more like Batman ♥ Superman.

Yep Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne aren’t just hiding their superhero alter-egos, they’re hiding the fact they’re big old gays, and after they meet it’s going to be difficult for them to hold their feelings for one another inside!

And it’s not just those two either, as Robin’s a great big ‘mo too!

Let’s hope Zack Snyder is taking notes. And if Joss Whedon wants Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye and Captain America to get a bit drunk and explore their sexuality in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, we wouldn’t complain about that either. [Read more…]
