Scarlett Johansson at The Avengers LA Premiere

Scarlett Johansson

With Warner Bros and Disney in a race to get their live action versions of The Jungle Book into cinema, the latter is attempting to steal a march on the former by adding Scarlett Johansson and Lupita Nyong’o to join Idris Elba voicing CGI animals in the movie, according to THR.

Based on Rudyard Kipling’s novel, the film follows Mowgli, a young boy who is raised in the jungle by wolves, while making friend with bear Baloo and black panther Bagheera.

Scarlett Johansson is in early talks to voice Kaa, a python who eats other animals after hypnotizing them. Lupita Nyong’o is in final talks to voice Rakcha, a mother wolf who takes Mowgli in.

Idris Elba will be man-eating tiger Shere Khan, who believes that when Mowgli becomes a man he’ll bring destruction to the forest.

Jon Favreau is directing from screenplay by Justin Marks. Warner’s version meanwhile has Andy Serkis attached to direct from a script by Steve Kloves.

More New The Normal Heart Posters Arrive Featuring Taylor Kitsch, Jim Parsons & Julia Roberts

April 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

normal-heart-poster-quintetJust yesterday we featured two new posters for HBO’s upcoming The Normal Heart, which featured lead actors Mark Ruffalo and Matt Bomer.

Now they’ve been joined by three more, this time giving us Taylor Kitsch, Jim Parsons and Julia Roberts.

Based on Larry Kramer’s seminal play, The Normal Heart sees Mark Ruffalo as Ned Weeks, who in the early 80s is one of the first people to raise an alarm about a new disease that’s initially known as ‘Gay Cancer’, but which was later called HIV/AIDS. Matt Bomer is Felix Turner, a gay fashion journalist who becomes Ned’s lover.

Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons will be gay activist Tommy Boatwright, a role he previously took in a 2011 Broadway revival of the play. Julia Roberts is Emma Brookner, a doctor who is the only one of her peers in New York taking AIDS seriously. Jonathan Groff is playing an early victim of the disease called Craig, whose boyfriend, Taylor Kitsch, starts off as a closeted investment banker but eventually becomes an AIDS activist.

Larry Kramer’s play is considered one of the most important reactions to the early AIDS epidemic, written by someone who has on the front lines of the fight, such as co-founding Gay Men’s Health Crisis and ACT UP. Kramer later wrote a follow-up, The Destiny Of Me.

You can see all five Normal Heart posters below (click on them for larger versions). The film debuts in the US on May 25th and will hopefully reach the rest of the world soon afterwards.

X-Men’s Caleb Landry Jones Joins Roland Emmerich’s Gay Rights Drama Stonewall

April 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Caleb-Landry-JonesA couple of weeks ago Roland Emmerich’s Stonewall got its first star with War Horse and Railway Man’s Jeremy Irvine signing up for the movie. Now he’s got some company as Deadline reports X-Men: First Class star Caleb Landry Jones is in talks for the film.

The film will centre around Irvine’s Danny, a young man whose political awakening happens against the backdrop of the 1969 Stonewall Riots, which have since become a touchstone for the gay rights struggle.

Jones will play, ‘an eccentric gay street hustler named Orphan Annie who at first resists then warms up to Danny and later participates in the Stonewall uprising’.

Emmerich revealed a few weeks ago that he intends to start production on the movie in the next couple of months.

As well as First Class, Caleb Landry Jones has appeared in Antiviral, Contraband, Byzantium, No Country For Old Men and the upcoming Queen & Country.

Gabourey Sidibe Talks Playing A Lesbian In The Upcoming Life Partners

April 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gabourey-sidibe“I just really wanted to play a lesbian, which I guess is sort of nerdy. My best friend in the entire world is a lesbian and I just thought it would be fun.”

Those are the words of Oscar-nominated Precious and American Horror Story actress Gabourey Sidibe, who takes on a lesbian role in the movie Life Partners, which premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival this week.

She adds to Out, “Once I showed up in this role, I realized actually how playing a lesbian is not different. It’s all about the story, and it’s the same thing. It’s the same as playing a straight person. But I really did like it, because this character got to be a little bit of a pimp.”

Sidibe is currently starring alongside James Franco in the new Broadway production of Of Mice and Men. Life Partners will hopefully be released soon.

Which Guy Is James Franco Going To Bed With In A New Pic?

April 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-franco-keegan-allenPoor old James Franco. He so wants to be gay, but he just can’t get over the fact he prefers genitals that don’t dangle.

That doesn’t stop him doing ‘anything but’ though, which includes a new picture he’s posted on Instagram where he’s cuddled up with another guy.

So who is the hunk in the photo? Well as Franco says, “BED SELFIE WITH KEEGAN ALLEN!!!!! TIME TO GO NUTS!!!!”

Allen is the star of Pretty Little Liars, who’s been working with Franco on a biopic of Charles Bukowski. It appears they took the pics after Allen saw Franco in a new production of Of Mice And Men that James is starring in.

However, as the pic below from Allen’s Instagram shows, the duo weren’t quite as cosy and naked as the image above suggests.

Jodie Foster Married Her Partner Alexandra Hedison Over The Weekend

April 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

alexandra-hedison-jodie-fosterJodie Foster may now be officially ‘out’ but that doesn’t mean she’s suddenly going to be telling people what she’s up to in her private life ahead of time.

She’s managed to keep her nuptials a secret, as it’s only now a few days later that E! reports that Foster married her girlfriend Alexandra Hedison over the weekend.

The women started dating last summer, with news of their relationship surfacing in October 2013.

There are no details about the ceremony or where it took place – so don’t expect any big glossy magazine spreads featuring pics from the event.

Hedison previously dated Ellen Degeneres several years ago and is a successful photographer. She’s also an actress, which includes playing Dylan Moreland in three seasons of The L Word.

Foster officially came out at the 2013 Golden Globes, although her sexuality had been an open secret for many years.

First Official Jurassic World Set Pics Emerge & Bryce Dallas Howard Is Looking Good

April 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jurassic-world-set-pic1It’s the week for the big movies of 2015 to gear up their shoots. The first pics from the Avengers: Age Of Ultron set have arrived, Terminator: Genesis announced it has started filming and now EW debuts some official set photos from Jurassic World.

There might not be any dinos, but looking at the truck, they’re certainly around. We’re also liking Bryce Dallas Howard’s new hairdo.

Director Colin Trevorrow comments “Yesterday I was under a construction crane with Chris Pratt, covered with dirt, eyeballing the exact height of the dinosaur trying to kill him. We both cracked up laughing. Sometimes you just have to stop and let the joy take over.”

He also promises plenty of dino action, with related reports saying that as with the earlier films, they will be using at least come animatronic animals.

Sony & Mattel Plan A Barbie Live Action Movie

April 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

barbie-dollBarbie has appeared in plenty of straight-to-DVD CGI animated movies in the past few years, however now she’s stepping up into the live-action arena, with Sony Pictures and Mattel teaming up to make it happen, according to Variety.

Jenny Bicks has been hired to write the script, with Walter F. Parkes and Laurie McDonald producing.

The movie is on a major fast track, with the hope being to get production started by the end of this year, kicking off a potential franchise. It’s thought Mattel insisted on a quick turnaround after several previous attempts to get their properties onto the big screen got trapped in development hell.

Walter F. Parkes, Laurie McDonald and Jenny Bicks won over Mattel to secure the rights, using a pitch that finds Barbie using her personal and professional skills to improve the lives of others, somewhat like a modern-day Mary Poppins.

The story apparently allows the studio to find a young cast to play Barbie, Ken and her best friend, while putting major stars around them to play supporting characters. The hope is to create some new stars while allowing the studio to keep costs down, locking in a cast to appear in multiple features, in a similar way to what Marvel does with their superheroes.

A Flash Gordon Reboot Is Moving Forward At Fox With Star Trek 3 Writers Attached

April 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

flash-gordon-sam-jonesFor years there’s been talk of a new Flash Gordon movie, but it’s been trapped in development, partly because they couldn’t figure out how to make it work, and partly due to rights issues. However now THR reports that 20th Century Fox has picked up the screen rights to Flash Gordon, with Star Trek 3 writers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay attached.

The studio spent more than a year trying to agree a deal to get the rights from the Hearst Corporation, which owns Flash Gordon. But now they’re ready to move forward.

George Nolfi wrote the initial draft of the screenplay, which will now be reworked by Payne and McKay. The Flash Gordon comic strip was created by Alex Raymond in 1934, becoming a classic cinema serial starring Buster Crabbe in the 30s and 40s. It was turned into a movie Flash Gordon, which quickly became a camp cult classic.

In the original comics, Yale graduate and polo player Flash Gordon was kidnapped and taken to the planet Mongo, where he does battle with Ming the Merciless alongside friends Dale Arden and Hans Zarkov. The tone of this new version is said to be similar to J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek, full of “adventure and razor’s edge escapades, balanced by plenty of character work.”

Robert Downey Jr. & Mark Ruffalo Tweet Pics From The Avengers: Age Of Ultron Pics

April 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

avengers-2-set-photo1After several months of prep the cast of Avengers: Age of Ultron is now in the UK and the shoot is gearing up at Pinewood Studios. And just in case we didn’t believe it, Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo have taken to Twitter to post pics from the set.

Downey Jr’s pic (above) shows him with executive producer Jeremy Latcham, both of whom are being safety conscious in reflective vests. That may not be very Tony Stark, but the pose is.

Ruffalo meanwhile gives us Scarlet Johansson’s back, where she looks like she’s about to go in the boxing ring. And in another shot he teams up with Downey Jr. for a selfie.

Avengers: Age Of Ultron will be in cinemas May 1st, 2015.
