Sandra Bullock Looks Panicked In A New Gravity Poster

August 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gravity-poster3Yesterday George Clooney got his close-up with his own Gravity poster and now the woman who is virtually his only co-star, Sandra Bullock, has got one too. She’s certainly looking worried, but it’s little surprised considering she spends a good chunk of the film lost in space.

The movie sees George Clooney and Sandra Bullock getting into immense amounts of trouble when their shuttle is hit by debris from a satellite the Russians have been trying to decommission. Bullock is sent flying off into space, with seemingly no way to get back to Earth – especially as there are communication troubles.

It’s just premiered at the Venice Film Festival and will be in cinemas this October.

Kathleen Turner Up To Join Jim Carrey & Jeff Daniels In Dumb & Dumber To

August 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kathleen-turnerDumb & Dumber To is one of those ‘I’ll believe it when I see it’ movies, as it’s been talked about for so long it’s difficult to believe it’s actually going to happen. However it’s survived being dropped by New Line (it’ll now be funded independently, with Universal distributing), and a lawsuit from one of the producers of the original movie, and now it’s started casting people to join Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey.

Variety reports that Kathleen Turner is in talks to join the movie, but unfortunately there are details of who Turner will be playing. But then, little is known about the movie, other than that Carrey and Daniels are returning to play Harry and Lloyd in the follow-up to the 1994 comedy.

The Farrelly brothers are also back to direct, with plans to start shooting fairly so it can be released next year, exactly 20 years after the first film.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Victors Get A Banner

August 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Hunger-Games-Catching-Fire-Victors-Banner
The marketing for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is ratcheting up before the film’s November release. The latest is a banner showing off a selection of the victors of previous Hunger Games, who are forced back into the arena.

You can click on the pic above for a larger version, or head over to ComicBookMovie for a more interactive version.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

‘THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE is directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy that has over 50 million copies in print in the U.S. alone. THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE opens on November 22, 2013.’

Robert Redford Gets Drenched In A Stormy All Is Lost Poster

August 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

All-Is-Lost-poster1
Robert Redford may not make as many movies as he once did, but he’s pretty much getting the screen all to himself in the upcoming All Is Lost. Now a new poster for the movie has debuted, which you can see above.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Deep into a solo voyage in the Indian Ocean, an unnamed man (Redford) wakes to find his 39-foot yacht taking on water after a collision with a shipping container left floating on the high seas. With his navigation equipment and radio disabled, the man sails unknowingly into the path of a violent storm. Despite his success in patching the breached hull, his mariner’s intuition and a strength that belies his age, the man barely survives the tempest. Using only a sextant and nautical maps to chart his progress, he is forced to rely on ocean currents to carry him into a shipping lane in hopes of hailing a passing vessel. But with the sun unrelenting, sharks circling and his meager supplies dwindling, the ever-resourceful sailor soon finds himself staring his mortality in the face.’

It’s out in the US in October and November 29th in the UK.

Vincent Cassel Replaces Philip Seymour Hoffman In Child 44

August 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

vincent-casselChild 44 is mid-production, but circumstances has resulted in a last minute addition to the cast, with Vincent Cassel stepping into a role that Philip Seymour Hoffman has departed. Deadline reports the news but doesn’t say exactly why Hoffman left. Let’s hope it’s not due to a relapse of the substance abuse issues he sought help for earlier this year.

Based on Tom Rob Smith’s novel, with Safe House helmer Daniel Espinosa directing, the Soviet Union set thriller is about a military police officer named Leo Demidov (Tom Hardy) who has to investigate a string of brutal child murders that took place during the Stalin era. As he begins to dig further and further into the case, he realises that his government is keeping a sharp eye on every move he makes, and refuses to admit that the killings are actually happening.

Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman, Joel Kinnaman, Jason Clarke and Paddy Considine also star. It’ll be in cinemas next year.

Secret-Life-of-Walter-Mitty-Teaser-One-Sheet
There’s already a bit of Oscar buzz surrounding The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty, with some saying it’s going to launch Ben Stiller up into the top rung of directors. While that’s yet to be seen, a new, rather cool, poster has debuted, which you can see above.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Ben Stiller directs and stars in THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, James Thurber’s classic story of a day-dreamer who escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job along with that of his co-worker (Kristen Wiig) are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.’

It’ll be in cinemas this Christmas. You can see the gorgeous trailer here.

Richard Gere Heads For The Indie Drama Franny

August 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Richard-GereRichard Gere has slowed down the pace of the number of films he makes, and it’s only now that he’s planning his first starring role since last year’s Arbitrage (let’s forget his cameo in Movie 43, which even he didn’t want to do), as ScreenDaily reports he’s signed up for the indie drama Fanny.

Gere will play ‘a fun-loving philanthropist who works his way into the lives of a newlywed couple to recapture the life he once had.’

Andrew Renzi’s will make his directing debut with the film, working from a script he wrote himself. The film will be looking for buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival, with shooting planned to commence in October.

Full Kill Your Darlings Trailer – Daniel Radcliffe falls into a strange beat-generation world

August 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

A few weeks ago a brief 30-second trailer snippet for Kill Your Darlings emerged, followed yesterday by a minute-long clip. Now a full trailer has popped up online, giving us our best look yet at the movie. However like many mainstream promos for films that take in gay-themes, it only hints at the homo underpinnings of the story.

Based on a true story, Kill Your Darlings charts how a murder helped shape the lives of a group of young men who went on to become the beat generation. Chronicle star DeHaan plays Lucien Carr, the man who introduced Howl writer Allen Ginsberg (Radcliffe) to the likes of William S. Burroughs (Ben Foster) and Jack Kerouac (Jack Huston).

During these early, hedonistic days, a man called David Kammerer (Michael C. Hall) fell for Carr, with his infatuation becoming increasingly obsessive and unhinged – the gay Ginsberg once discovered Kammerer trying to murder Jack Kerouac’s cat. It eventually resulted in Carr stabbing Kammerer to death him and going to prison for his murder. The violent event is said to have indelibly changed all the people involved and etched its way into the published works of the Beat writers.

At the film’s Sundance debut, there was much talk about Radcliffe’s gay sex scene in the movie, so don’t worry, the film will be a lot gayer than the trailer. The film’s out in the US on October 18th, with a November 8th UK date set. [Read more…]

Child Of God Teaser Trailer – James Franco takes on Cormac McCarthy

August 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

James Franco has directed a few film, but they’ve generally been so indie you could be forgiven for never having seen one. Now he’s taken on one that may get a slightly larger audience, taking on Cormac McCarthy’s Child Of God. Now the first teaser trailer has arrived.

Here’s TIFF’s synopsis: ‘Lester Ballard (Scott Haze, spitting and scratching at himself) is an abandoned soul, unable to fit into the established social order. As he increasingly withdraws into his own mind, he turns to violence and, ultimately, necrophilic relationships, looking for solace in a world that continually rejects him. The town sheriff (indelibly portrayed by Jim Parrack), both sympathetic to and fearful of the man, slowly closes the net around him — but a mob of townfolk have ideas of their own. Here the frame of the film turns, exposing a society where politesse is only a fingernail scratch away from pure hate and greed. ‘

The novel deals a lot with sexual deviancy including necrophilia and paedophilia, which doesn’t exactly sounds a barrel of laughs, but perhaps Franco can make it work. The film will make its world premiere this Saturday at the 70th annual Venice Film Festival, and it will also screen at TIFF next month. [Read more…]
