Danny Dyer Going Hard Man Once More In Assassin

July 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

danny-dyer-shirtlessDanny Dyer seems to amount to about half of the British film industry, making an endless stream of movies, most of which see him acting hard as nails and using the word ‘numpty’ a lot. Now he’s got a new one, as THR reports that he’ll star in Assassin, from director J.K. Amalou.

The film has a plot you’d expect from the actor, as he’ll play ‘a professional contract killer who compromises himself when he realizes that his latest victim is the estranged father of the girl he has fallen in love with.’

One day I really hope I get to write a story saying he’s gonna play a softly spoken, cerebral, physics professor involved in a gentle romance, because I’d love to see whether he could even vaguely pull it off. It’s unlikely to happen though, as it seems the actor has teamed with producer Jonathan Southcott (following Vendetta) to essentially turn Dyer into a brand, ensuring audiences know exactly what sort of gritty action Brit flick they’re getting is Danny’s name is attached.

Filming on Assassin starts next month.

Things Get Homoerotic In Steven Grand’s All-American Boy Music Video

July 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s Independence Day, which seems a good time to post a music video called All-American Boy by rather hot singer Steve Grand. The whole thing is pretty homoerotic, with Grand’s bromance with a friend growing to a point where he hopes it will lead to something more, but the other person may not feel completely the same way.

It may be a music video, but many gay people will be able to relate to having feelings for a ‘straight’ boy, who flirts and shows affection in private, but who suddenly changes as soon as other people are around.

It’s a pretty good song too and the video is fairly sexy (although if you’re shocked by the sight of a butt, don’t click play above!). [Read more…]

The Boys Of Lawson Strip Naked For The Latest Issue Of Cosmo

July 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It seems to be becoming a bit of a rite of passage that on your way to stardom, men have to have a naked photoshoot, but with their junk artfully covered, Austin Powers star.

The latest to do that are the boys of rock-pop band Lawson, with Andy Brown, Ryan Fletcher, Joel Peat and Adam Pitts showing off their toned and worryingly hairless bodies for a Cosmo centrefold. They’re certainly looking hot.

As well as the image, you can take a look at a vid below, taken from the photoshoot, with plenty more from the band. The issue of Cosmopolitan magazine featuring the boys is on sale today. [Read more…]

Lovelace Trailer – Amanda Seyfried turns porn legend

July 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Lovelace got a slightly mixed reception when it debuted at Sundance, but it certainly tells an interesting tale and has a great cast, including Amanda Seyfried, Peter Sarsgaard, Juno Temple, Sharon Stone, Chris Noth, Adam Brody, Hank Azaria, Wes Bentley, James Franco and Chloe Sevigny.

Now a new trailer and a UK quad poster have arrived, ahead on the film’s August release.

The film is a biopic of Linda Lovelace, who’s a fascinating figure far beyond the titilation of being the star of one of the best known porn films in history – Deep Throat. Initially appearing in hardcore (and even bestiality) movies, at first Lovelace seemed to revel in her status. However during her divorce from Chuck Traynor in the late 70s, she claimed that he was violent and had forced her into pornography at gunpoint (with some evidence to back her up).

While there have been some disagreements as to the extent Lovelace was a willing participant in her porn career, there seems little doubt that her marriage to Traynor was viscious and cruel. She then became an anti-pornography champion, speaking at public events and testifying at government hearings on pornography. However she later said she felt used by the anti-pornography movement, which got a lot mileage out of having Lovelace as a convert, but which never helped her out. She died in a car accident in 2002.

William H Macy, Virginia Madsen & Peter Facinelli On For Walter

July 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

William-H-MacyWe don’t see as much of William H Macy on the big screen as we used to, as he has to spend a lot of his year making the US version of Shameless. However he’s found time to slot in Walter, which Anna Mastro is directing, based on a 2010 short film of the same name, according to Deadline.

Virginia Madsen, Peter Facinelli, Andrew J West and Justin Kirk have also signed up to join Neve Campbell, Leven Rambin and Milo Ventimiglia in the movie. West will take the same role he did in the short, as ‘a young man who believes that he is actually the son of God.

‘As such, the eternal destiny of everyone he encounters is his responsibility – which is a lot to manage along with his job at a movie theater, his loving but neurotic mother, and his growing but unspoken affection for his co-worker. Life becomes even more complicated when a mysterious figure appears who forces Walter to examine the true meaning of life.’

There’s no news on who the other actors will play, but the movie starts shooting soon.

Brendan Gleeson & Sam Keeley Go In The Heart Of The Sea

July 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

brendan-gleesonIn The Heart Of The Sea is a project that certainly sounds like it could be interesting, even if it’s going to be a challenge to make. It already has Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker and Cillian Murphy attached to star, and now Variety reports that Brendan Gleeson and Sam Keeley have signed up too.

Charles Leavitt wrote the script, adapted from Nathanial Philbrick’s non-fiction book of the same name, which is based on the true events that inspired Herman Melville to write Moby Dick. The story revolves around a Nantucket whaling ship that was destroyed by a sperm whale in 1820.

Only eight crew members were rescued alive, after being lost at sea for 90 days – by which point they’d turned to cannibalism. Walker will play first-time Captain, Pollard, with Hemsworth as his first mate, Owen Chase, and Murphy as the second mate.

Gleeson has signed up to be an older version of one of the ship’s crew, suggesting the movie will use a framing device where someone is recounting the terrible tale – perhaps to Herman Melville. Keeley meanwhile will be one of the crew onboard as the terror unfolds.

Ron Howard is set to direct, with Warner Bros backing the movie. The hope is to shoot the movie this September in order the fit into Hemsworth’s busy schedule.

Director Colin Trevorrow Promises Jurassic Park IV Will Honour the Original

July 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Colin-TrevorrowA couple of months ago, director Colin Tervorrow was scouting locations for Jurassic Park IV, with plans to shoot imminently for a 2014 release. However Universal decided the timeframe was just too short, so the project was delayed and now won’t be coming until 2015.

Trevorrow is keen to let us know that the project is still on track though, as he’s been talking to SchmoesKnow about having original Jurassic Park director Steven Spielberg on board as an executive producer. He says, “It’s incredible to have Steven, who’s done this for decades and has such an incredible filmic knowledge and just understands the language of the story in a way that for us is very refreshing. It’s not like getting notes from a studio executive, it’s really just trying to crack this and make it the best it can be.”

When asked if it was a reboot, he explained that he knows how much the original trilogy means to the fans.”We don’t want to create a new scoop here, but we definitely want to honor what came before us,” he says. “We are very aware of how much a certain generation especially cares about this movie and we talk about it all the time and really the conversation is: It’s not about us, it’s not about our careers, it’s – how do we make something that can stand with the first one?”

Nothing has been confirmed about the story, but the latest rumours suggest that the plot is set on Isla Nublar, the site of the original Jurassic Park (the sequels were on a different island). The suggestion is that it’s now opened as an amusement park, featuring live, tame dinosaurs. Inevitably things go wrong when a new dinosaur finds a way to cause chaos on the island.

Ashton Kutcher Gets Colourful In A New Jobs Poster

July 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jobs-poster1
Jobs got a bit of a mixed reaction when it debuted earlier this year at Sundance, with some saying it was interesting and well acted, while others found it a bit of a dull journeyman effort. The distributor when delayed it from a planned spring opening, with some saying they may have been doing some tinkering in the editing room.

Now a colourful new poster for the movie has emerged, with Ashton Kutcher doing a good job of looking like Steve Jobs.

The film is about Apple co-founder Jobs, following him ‘from the enthusiasm and self-discovery of his youth through his darkest days, brightest triumphs, and the ultimate power of his drive, his passions, and his undying will to change everything we thought possible. Dark, honest, and uncompromising, Jobs plunges into the depths of Steve Jobs’ character, uncovering his driving motivations, his gifts, his flaws, his failures, and his ultimate successes.’

It hits US cinemas on August 16th. No UK date is set yet.

Roland Emmerich Pledges Up To $250,000 Towards Equal Marriage Fight

July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

roland-emmerich-slide
Until relatively recently, 2012 and Independence Day director Roland Emmerich didn’t mention the fact that he was gay very much. However, since getting involved more with the Gay and Lesbian Center in Los Angeles he’s been more vocal.

Now THR reports that he pledged to match up to $250,000 in donations to the Human Rights Campaign before Midnight, to help the fight for equal marriage. The offer came as HRC tries to highlight the fact that while the Supreme Court struck down key parts of DOMA and re-legalised same sex marriage in California, there’s still a major fight to get equal marriage to other states, particularly those with entrenched conservative voters, many of which have amendments in their constitutions specifically banning gay marriage.

Emmerich told THR, “HRC won’t stop until discrimination against LGBT Americans is eliminated… With last week’s Supreme Court rulings, they proved it can be done, but we still have a long way to go in establishing equal rights for everyone. I support them every step of the way.”

Chad Griffin, the president of the HRC, added that the rulings, ”Have brought us two enormous steps closer toward unfastening the stranglehold that discrimination has on our nation’s laws… With all of the media attention on our historic wins at the Supreme Court, we can’t afford to lose sight of the new reality: There are two tiers of equality in this country, where some LGBT Americans have protections and access to equal rights and others simply do not.

“Our streets will never be completely safe for a gay couple as long as most states bar them from something as basic as marriage. Our schools will never be completely safe for a transgender student until our laws protect their unimpeachable right to live and work without fear of being evicted or fired.”

It’s certainly better news what we had for Roland earlier this week, when his movie White House Down flopped at the cinema, despite starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx. Perhaps a few gay Americans can go watch the film over the July 4th holiday to help him out.
