Adam Driver & Michael Palin Up For Terry Gilliam’s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote

May 17, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

adam-driverYou’ve got to hope that when/if it’s going to be made, Terry Gilliam’s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is going to be good. The film has been so beset by disasters that it spawned a feature-length documentary about it, 2002’s Lost In La Mancha.

Now though it’s back on track, with Screen Daily reporting that Adam Driver and Michael Palin are now set to star in the movie. Driver is taking over the role that was originally going to be played by Johnny Depp, with the likes of Ewan McGregor and Jack O’Connell attached to it over the years. Michael Palin meanwhile will play the title role.

In case you don’t know the story, after several years of trying to get it off the ground, the movie finally went into production in 2000, with Johnny Depp and Jean Rochefort starring. However very quickly a combination of factors, ranging from Rochefort getting seriously ill to a storm wrecking the sets, meant to the whole thing had to be called off.

Over the years Gilliam has tried on numerous occasions to get it off the ground again, but a range of issues, mainly surrounding financing, means it’s never happened. He’ll be hoping for more luck this time around, to the this revisionist version of Cervantes’ classic tale.

A new synopsis lets us know that: ‘There was a time when Toby was a young film student full of ideals. So he decided to shoot a film adapted from the story of Don Quixote in a pretty Spanish village.

‘But those days are gone and now Toby is an arrogant publicist, libidinous and jaded. Money and glitter have corrupted him, and while he is in Spain where he finishes filming an ad, he has to juggle with his boss’s wife – Jacqui – a calamitous weather, and his own ego. This is when a mysterious gypsy comes to find him with an old copy of his student film: Toby is upset and decides to go in search of a little village where he had made his first work a long time ago. He discovers with horror that his little film has had terrible effects on this quiet place. Angelica, the girl full of innocence, became a high-class call girl; and the old man who played Don Quixote lost his mind, convinced in his delusion of being the real “Knight of the Sorrowful Countenance.”

‘A series of incidents lead to a fire that threatens to destroy the village. Wanted by the police, Toby is “saved” by the old fool who takes him for his faithful squire Sancho, and drives on the roads in search of his perfect wife, Dulcinea.

‘During this journey, Toby will face demons, real and imaginary, modern and medieval. Damsels will be saved, jousts will be completed, and giants will be killed!

Reality and fantasy merge in this strange journey, until a spooky ending.’

The current plan is to start shooting in September.

Midnight Special Trailer – Michael Shannon & Joel Edgerton protect a child with special powers

November 19, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

midnight-special-pic1-slideAfter indie hits Mud and Take Shelter, director Jeff Nichols heads in a slightly more mainstream direction with Midnight Special.

Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst and Adam Driver star in the movie, which follows a ‘A father and son who go on the run after the dad learns his child possesses special powers’.

The new trailer seems to want to keep things rather mysterious, while giving off a slightly Amblin vibe (which seems to be what Nichols was going for, as he’s compared his film to the likes of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. and Starman),

The movie will be in UK cinemas next April. [Read more…]

While We’re Young Trailer – Ben Stiller & Naomi Watts try to keep their youth

December 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While-Were-Young-pic1Noah Baumbach (Frances Ha, Squid And The Whale) is back with While We’re Young, which reteamed him with his Greenberg star Ben Stiller, alongside Naomi Watts, Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried, for a look at a 40-something couple trying to keep hold of their youth.

Stiller and Watts are the couple, plodding along in early middle-aged life when they meets Driver and Seyfried’s hipster young couple. Their ennui – Stiller’s character has spent 10 years editing a single documentary – is upended and they suddenly feel energised, but of course recapturing your youth isn’t that simple.

A March 27th, 2015 US release is set and it’ll be out in the UK a week later. [Read more…]

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer – Back to a galaxy far, far away

November 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

star-wars-force-awakens-pic4-slideWhile there was a brief moment where it looked liked you’d have to go to one of a few select cinemas to see the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, it’s not being that picky, as the teaser has been posted online and you can watch it below.

It’s a lot of fun, doing a great job of seeming like something new and fresh, while also being firmly set in the Star Wars universe and trading in a bit of nostalgia. And interestingly, while Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia will return, the trailer doesn’t show anything of them, with the main classic ‘character’ being the Millennium Falcon.

The film will hit cinemas December 2015, but expect the hype to go mental long before then.

Jason Bateman & Tina Fey Have A Lot Of Family In A This I Where I Leave You Poster

July 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

this-is-where-i-leave-you-posterA few weeks ago we got a trailer for Shawn Levy’s dark comedy This Is Where I Leave You, and now it’s been followed up by a poster showing off the film’s large cast, which includes Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Adam Driver, Rose Byrne, Corey Stoll, Kathryn Hahn, Connie Britton, Timothy Olyphant, Dax Shepard and Jane Fonda.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When their father passes away, four grown siblings, bruised and banged up by their respective adult lives, are forced to return to their childhood home and live under the same roof together for a week, along with their over-sharing mother and an assortment of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. Confronting their history and the frayed states of their relationships among the people who know and love them best, they ultimately reconnect in hysterical and emotionally affecting ways amid the chaos, humor, heartache and redemption that only families can provide— driving us insane even as they remind us of our truest, and often best, selves.

The film will hit cinemas this September.

This Is Where I Leave You Trailer – Shawn Levy does something different with Tina Fey & Jason Bateman

May 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Shawn Levy is best known for helming comedies and big family-friendly films such as Night At The Museum, The Internship and Real Steel. However he’s going more towards dramatic dark comedy with This Is Where I Leave You.

He’s certainly teamed up with a great cast to do it, including Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Adam Driver, Rose Byrne, Corey Stoll, Kathryn Hahn, Connie Britton, Timothy Olyphant, Dax Shepard and Jane Fonda.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When their father passes away, four grown siblings, bruised and banged up by their respective adult lives, are forced to return to their childhood home and live under the same roof together for a week, along with their over-sharing mother and an assortment of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. The Star Wars Episode VII Cast Is Announced, Including John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis & Domhnall Gleeson

April 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

star-wars-episode-vii-script-readingJJ Abrams has been keeping very quiet about the cast for Star Wars Episode VII, but with the shoot starting to gear up and the likes of Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill & Carrie Fisher seen in London, many presumed we’d find out who would be in the film on Star Wars Day, May 4th.

However it’s come sooner that that with Lucasfilm & Disney issuing the following release: ‘The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

‘Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker in the new film.

‘Director J.J. Abrams says, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

‘Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.’

There’s no news on who the new cast will play, although it’s believed Attack The Block’s Boyega will be a Jedi apprentice, while Girls’ Adam Driver is one of the main villains. It’s a fair bet that Andy Serkis will be playing a motion capture character, but it’s less clear what Inside Llewyn Davis’ Oscar Isaac, About Time’s Domhnall Gleeson or relative newcomer Daisy Ridley will be doing.

Along with the release came the pick above from a cast script reading.
