Randall Miller directs this drama that takes fans inside the famed CBGB punk rock club in New York City. The film is a biopic of Hilly Kristal (Alan Rickman), who wanted to start a club for country, bluegrass and blues (the CBGB of the club’s name) but found it difficult to get acts, and so ended up allowing the likes of The Ramones and Blondie to play, helping give punk a foothold in America.

Twilight’s Ashley Greene Heads For CBGB

June 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The increasingly massive cast of CBGB has got one of its final pieces, with Twilight actress Ashley Greene taking on one of the leads, playing Lisa Kristal, according to Variety, in the movie about the famed New York club that helped give birth to punk in the US.

Lisa Kristal, Hilly’s daughter, was often in conflict with her father, and ended up taking over from his as the club’s business manager. A law-school graduate, Lisa was able to help keep the club afloat until it closed its doors for the final time in 2008.

Along with Rickman and Greene, Joel David Moore, Julian Acosta and Steven Schub will play three of the Ramones; Malin Akerman is Debbie Harry; Mickey Sumner is Patti Smith; Rupert Grint will be Dead Boys guitarist Cheetah Chrome; and Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins is Iggy Pop. It’s quite a cast, with a few more roles of musicians who played the club still to be cast. Shooting begins later this month, with Randall Miller directing.

The Apparition Trailer – Ashley Greene & Sebastian Stan get haunted

May 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s horror time again with the trailer for The Apparition. When frightening events start to occur in their home, young couple Kelly (Ashley Greene) and Ben (Sebastian Stan) discover they are being haunted by a presence that was accidentally conjured during a university parapsychology experiment. The horrifying apparition feeds on their fear and torments them no matter where they try to run. Their last hope is an expert in the supernatural (Tom Felton), but even with his help they may already be too late to save themselves from this terrifying force…

Okay, but how can Tom ‘Draco Mafoy’ Felton be an expert in the supernatural? He’s only about 12! it’s due out in August.

LOL Trailer – Let’s all dribble over how cute Douglas Booth is

April 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Last Song suggested Miley Cyrus might have a decent post-Hannah Montana movie career, and her next attempt to keep her career on a high arrives on June 1st with LOL. Here’s the synopsis: ‘In a world connected by YouTube, iTunes, and Facebook, Lola (Cyrus) and her friends navigate the peer pressures of high school romance and friendship while dodging their sometimes overbearing and confused parents. When Lola’s mom, Anne (Demi Moore), “accidentally” reads her teenage daughter’s racy journal, she realises just how wide their communication gap has grown. Through hilarious and heartfelt moments between mother and daughter, LOL is a fresh coming-of-age story for modern times.’ However this new trailer sells it more as a straightforward teen romance between Cyrus and the impossibly handsome Douglas Booth.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 (Blu-ray)

March 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene, Peter Facinelli
Director: Bill Condon
Running Time: 117 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: March 12th, 2012

It’s become almost de rigueur to slag off the Twilight movies, with the usual tack being to criticise the films for not fitting into the horror/action/thriller tropes that fanboys feel movies about vampires ought to fulfil. Behind that is a rather unpleasant sense that the anger at the franchise stems from fury that someone has dared make a fantasy movie that isn’t designed for the geeks who like to should loudly on the internet. Perhaps worst of all is that these angry young men don’t even seem to appreciate that 90% of the major movies are made for them, so the vitriol they pour at Twilight, simply because it’s popular but not for them, is actually quite ridiculous. Uncle David (DVD)

November 29, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: David Hoyle, Ashley Greene
Director: David Hoyle, Mike Nicholls, Gary Reich
Running Time: 95 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: December 5th, 2011

It’s not often that a film can elicit two completely different reactions from me, but Uncle David managed it. If you asked for my knee-jerk feeling, I’d have to say I hated it. While watching it I found it slow, tedious, rather annoying and more than a little pretentious. Despite this, the movie has stuck in my head and kept me thinking about it for days afterwards.

The plot is relatively simple. David (David Hoyle) is a middle-aged man living with his young lover, Ashley (Ashley Greene), in a chalet in a remote, windy, British seaside town. While their life seems rather basic and deprived, David lives in a world of his own philosophical making, endlessly lecturing the receptive Ashley about his ideas on life, and how nearly everybody in the world is buying into what he believes is a corrupt and corrupting system.
