Chloe Moretz Or Haley Bennett May Be Carrie

March 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

MGM is busy mining its back catalogue for properties to remake and one it’s keen on giving a do-over is Stephen King’s Carrie, with Boys Don’t Cry helmer Kimberly Peirce attached to direct. Now the director and studio are closing in on a young actress for the lead role, with Vulture reporting that Chloe Moretz and Haley Bennett (who’s little known now but will be seen alongside Ryan Gosling in Terrence Malick’s Lawless) are the top contenders.

It is rather odd that the top candidates for a role like this are so far apart in age, as Chloe Moretz is 15-years-old and Haley Bennett is 24. Other actresses such as Dakota Fanning, Emily Browning, Bella Heathcote and Lily Collins have read for Carrie, while The Descendants star Shailene Woodley was reportedly offered the title role outright, but she passed. It now appears it’s down to Moretz and Bennett though.

Kimberly Peirce has also shown interest in Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore to play Carrie’s crazed mother, although it doesn’t seem any offers have been made yet. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is writing the script, which will reportedly stay more faithful to author Stephen King’s original novel. It isn’t known when production may begin on Carrie, but it’s a bit of a priority for MGM.

Nine Great New Dark Shadows Character Posters

March 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s not too long now until Dark Shadows hits cinemas on May 11th. A trailer and a poster arrived a couple of days ago, and now nine rather cool character posters have debuted, which are incredibly brightly coloured to give it the late-60s/early-70s vibe the film is going for (which is the era the supernatural soap it’s based on aired on US TV).

In the film, Johnny Depp plays Barnabas Collins, who was turned into a vampire by a witch (Eva Green) in the 18th Century and then buried alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to old home, Collinwood Manor, to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Jonny Lee Miller, Jackie Earle Haley, Chloe Moretz and Gulliver McGrath also star.

Dark Shadows Trailer

March 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s odd that it’s taken so long, but a trailer for Dark Shadows is finally here. Based on a 1960s supernatural US soap opera, the film reunites Tim Burton and Johnny Depp for a film that from this trailer looks like it’ll be deliberately silly but fun, and it seem like it’ll be the most Burton-looking movie we’ve seen in a while, with plenty of gothic flourishes. In the film, Johnny Depp plays Barnabas Collins, who was turned into a vampire by a witch in the 18th Century and then buried alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Jonny Lee Miller, Jackie Earle Haley, Chloe Moretz and Gulliver McGrath also star. The film’s out May 11th.

Chloe Moretz & Rupert Grint Join The Drummer

March 15, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The biopic of Dennis Wilson, The Drummer, gets a little closer to the screen, with Variety reporting that Chloe Moretz and Rupert Grint have signed up to star alongside the already cast Aaron Eckhart and Vera Farmiga.

Eckhart will play The Beach Boys drummer Wilson, with the film focusing on the last six years of his life. Dennis is generally seen as the dark horse of the Beach Boys, but the last few years of his life saw him stepping into the limelight and releasing a solo album, Pacific Ocean Blue, in 1977 (Eckhart will apparently record his own versions of songs from that record, and classically trained pianist Farmiga is set to make her own music as well, as Fleetwood Mac singer Christine McVie, who was romantically involved with Dennis).

However he was also battling with drug and alcohol problems and eventually drowned whilst swimming drunk. Chloe Moretz will play Brian Wilson’s daughter, Jennifer, while Rupert Grint is playing Stan Shapiro, a mail room intern at William Morris who befriends Dennis Wilson.

Randall Miller (Bottle Shock) is directing with production scheduled to begin June 15th.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Gets Stuck Into The Rut

January 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jeffrey Dean Morgan, whose star has certainly risen in the past couple of years, is set to join young actress Chloe Moretz (whose been attached since 2010) in director Karyn Kusama’s (Jennifer’s Body) indie drama The Rut, according to Variety.

Described as a cross between Winter’s Bone and Sean Penn’s Into the Wild, the story follows a young girl who sets out into the wild by herself to hunt deer, hoping to win the approval of her father. It’s a very American story as you can’t imagine many British parents being impressed if their kids wandered off by themselves to kill an animal (indeed for most it’d be time to call the shrinks in).

It’ll be a while until we see The Rut though, as it isn’t set to start shooting until this October.
