Bradley Cooper & Christian Bale Go 1970s In The First Official American Hustle Pics

July 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

american-hustle-pic1David O. Russell returns to cinemas later this year with American Hustle, which reunites him with his Silver Linings Playbook star Bradley Cooper, along with his The Fighter actors Christian Bale and Amy Adams.

A few set pics of the actors get their 1970s on have popped up online, but now we can get our first official look at the movie with the images above and below, showing us all three actors, with Bale in particular being almost unrecognisable.

The movie is based on a true story and follows Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), a con artist who, along with his lover and accomplice Sydney (Amy Adams), are forced by an FBI agent (Bradley Cooper) to help with his ABSCAM conspiracy case in the 1970s. That ended with a US Senator and five Congressmen were convicted on corruption charges.

David O. Russell talked to USA Today about recreating the 1970s, saying, “That era was very much like our era now. The economy was not in a good place and people had to struggle to figure out how to reinvent themselves.”

He also spoke about shooting in Boston during the Boston Marathon bombings in April, which shut down production for a couple of days.”We were shooting in an outlying area that day,” he says. “Christian Bale’s wife was the first one to get through to him (on set). It was very surreal. It was very upsetting.”

Christian Bale Confirms The End Of His Batman Days

July 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dark-knight-rises-bd-cover-slide
While it seemed that The Dark Knight Rises marked the end of Christian Bale as Batman, many having been holding onto the slim hope that he’d have a change of heart and return for Justice League.

However Bale confirmed to EW that he is not returning to play Batman. When asked about his possible involvement in Justice League, the actor revealed that he hasn’t been approached to even consider joining Justice League.

He says, “We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy. Chris (Nolan) always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying ‘We’re about to make the third.’ We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well. I have no information, no knowledge about anything. I’ve literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that’s it. It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with.”

Back in March, there was a speculative rumour that Christopher Nolan was developing Justice League with Christian Bale returning as Batman. That story turned out to be false, with Warner Bros. executive Jeffrey Robinov revealing in April that the director’s Batman trilogy stands on its own.

At the moment it seems Man of Steel director Zack Snyder is going to helm Justice League, but that has not been confirmed.

Christian Bale Circling Moses Role In Exodus

March 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

christian-baleChristian Bale must be keen on getting biblical, as while he was once attached to play Noah for Darren Aronofsky but had to drop out, Deadline reports that he’s now circling the role of Moses in Ridley Scott’s Exodus.

The film is one of two separate Moses based movies doing the rounds in Hollywood, with two separate projects brewing at both 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. At the moment Fox’s Exodus is picking up more steam, although talks with Christian Bale are still in the early stages.

The studio wants to get the project off the ground quickly, with Ridley Scott directing from a screenplay by Steven Zaillian, who rewrote the original script by Bill Collage and Adam Cooper. No story details have been released, although the title suggests it will focus on the Israelites being led out of Egypt by Moses.

Warner Bros.’ Gods and Kings is having a few more problems though, as director Steven Spielberg has decided to part ways with the Biblical project. The studio has reached out to Ang Lee (Life of Pi) to take his place, but no deals have been reached yet. The script by Stuart Hazeldine and Michael Green has been described as a Braveheart-esque rendition of Moses’ story.

Christian Bale Returning As Batman For Justice League, With Chris Nolan Producing?

March 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dark-knight-rises-bd-review-slideUntil there’s anything even vaguely official, I’d take this one with a pinch of salt, but Latino Review reports that suggests Christopher Nolan has agreed to take on producer duties on the long-planned Justice League movie. They also suggest Christian Bale may return as Batman and Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman.

In recent months Justice League has been in trouble, with reports that Warner hated Will Beall’s script and that they would have to start again from scratch. Along with that issue, there have been suggestion the scope of the project is scaring many at DC. While they want to catch up to Marvel’s cinematic universe, they’re also aware that if Justice League turns out to be a disaster, it could severely harm several key characters’ chances on the big screen. Many believe that Justice League’s fate rests solely on whether this summer’s Man of Steel becomes a major hit.

With so many worries and uncertainties, one of the few things that would be likely to give everyone a bit of confidence would be getting Chris Nolan on-board in some capacity. If Latino Review is correct, he’s now agreed to do that, shepherding the project to the screen just as he did with Man of Steel.

This means that Christian Bale may return as Batman, even though he stated multiple times that The Dark Knight Rises would be his last turn as Bruce Wayne. That said, the actor did hint in a recent interview that if Christopher Nolan came to him with another Batman story, he might be interested in donning the cowl once again.

It is also being said that Man of Steel director Zack Snyder will produce Justice League alongside Christopher Nolan, and that he may possibly end up directing Justice League. The suggestion is that Christopher Nolan is going to be developing/shepherding all of Warner’s superhero projects from now on, in a similar way to what Mark Millar is doing at Fox, and Joss Whedon at Marvel. Nothing has been confirmed by the studio, so consider this information a slightly dubious rumor for now.

Christian Bale Will Scale Everest In A Film Based On A Tragic True Story

February 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

christian-baleChristian Bale is hoping to go mountaineering, as Deadline reports that The Dark Knight Rises star is in talks to take the lead role in the true life drama Everest, for Working Title Films and Universal Pictures.

The movie is based on an infamous incident in 1996, and will follow two separate groups who tried to reach the summit of Mount Everest, but the whole thing ended in tragedy. Christian Bale is set to play Rob Hall, the leader of a New Zealand group of climbers, four of whom never returned from the mountain.

Baltasar Kormákur (Contraband) is set to direct, with Justin Isbell on scripting dutires.

This isn’t the only Everest project doing the rounds, as Sony is developing a movie about George Mallory, who may have been the first to reach the mountain’s summit in 1924, but who never made it back to reveal if he had made it to the top or not. Tom Hardy is set to star in that one – it’s Bane vs Batman once more, but they’re climbing Everest this time.

Jennifer Lawrence Set To Reteam With David O Russell On Abscam Movie

February 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence

Director David O Russell used to have a reputation for being difficult to work with, but he must have calmed down as he’s busy lining up a new movie full of faces who’ve worked with him before. The latest to join is Jennifer Lawrence, who scored her second Oscar nomination for O Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook.

The movie will also reunite her with fellow Silver Linings thesp, Bradley Cooper, along with The Fighter’s Christian Bale and Amy Adams, as well as O Russell newbie, Louis CK.

The film, formerly known as American Bullshit is based on the true story of an FBI sting operation known as Abscam, which uncovered a vast network of corruption along the East Coast. The story centers on con artist Melvin Weinberg (Christian Bale) a criminal who is forced to work with the FBI to unravel what’s going on. Lawrence is set to play Bale’s wife (we’ll ignore the 16-year age difference, as Hollywood is obsessed with pairing young woman with significantly older men).

David O. Russell is directing from a screenplay by Eric Singer (The International). It’s not known when it will start shooting. (Source: Deadline)

Running Time: 164 mins

The Dark Knight Rises had a lot to live up to after the superb second instalment in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy. While it may not be quite as good as The Dark Knight, the film is a fitting conclusion to the series, tying up the thematic ends and ramping up the spectacle and excitement.

It’s seven years after the events of The Dark Knight and Bruce Wayne is living as a virtual recluse in his mansion. Batman is no longer needed and Wayne is a physical wreck.
