Grand Piano Trailer – Elijah Wood had better not stop playing!

December 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Grand Piano is a rather intriguing proposition – not least that it’s been described as ‘Speed at a piano’.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Forced into early retirement because of crippling stage fright, Wood is a piano virtuoso who returns to the stage where the recital turns deadly and he is forced to literally play for his life in the tense and twisted psychological thriller.’ Apparently if he doesn’t give the performance of a lifetime, someone will kill him and his wife.

Agora’s Eugenio Mira directs, with a release set for early next year. [Read more…]

First Six Minutes Of Maniac Online – Elijah Wood turns killer in the violent remake

December 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

As Maniac is a remake of a 1980 video nasty horror, you wouldn’t think Cannes would be the best place to premiere it, but last May it was audiences at the French festival who got the first look at the Frank Khalfoun (P2) directed movie. It’ll reach UK screens on March 15th, but if you fancy taking a look at Elijah Wood as a mannequin store owner killer, the first six minutes of the film are now online.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.

‘A 21st century Jack the Ripper set in present-day LA, MANIAC is a re-boot of the cult film considered by many to be the most suspenseful slasher movie ever made – an intimate, visually daring, psychologically complex and profoundly horrific trip into the downward spiralling nightmare of a killer and his victims.’

Great Hobbit 13-Minute Featurette Arrives

December 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s less than a week until The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits cinemas. There’s a huge amount of anticipation and for those who can’t get enough on the film, there’s a great new 13-minute featurette, which includes plenty of new footage from the movie, as well as some interesting behind-the-scenes info on the making of the movie.

The movie has been getting slightly mixed notices – no one’s said it’s bad, but that perhaps it doesn’t quite hit the ridiculously high bar set by Lord Of The Ring, although it will be difficult to fully judge it until we’ve seen all three movies. We’ll all get to see what we think on December 13th.

Lord Of The Rings – Extended Editions (Blu-ray)

Starring: Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Sean Astin, Viggo Mortensen, Orlando Bloom
Director: Peter Jackson
Running Time: 726 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: December 3rd 2012

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 11 years since Lord Of The Rings: Fellowship Of The Ring first appeared in cinemas and blew audiences with its incredible depiction of Tolkien’s Middle Earth. Before the first film was released, many had thought New Line was insane spending several hundred million dollars making the three movies back-to-back, especially as at the time fantasy was seen as box office poison. Elijah Wood Will Go Through Puberty In The Late Bloomer

October 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s been revealed that Elijah Wood is set to play the lead role in the new comedy The Late Bloomer, based on Ken Baker’s acclaimed 2001 memoir Man Made: A Memoir of My Body, with a shooting date of January 2013 already set.

Joe Nussbaum and Paul A. Kaplan & Mark Torgove have come up with the script, based on the amazing true story of a man who found out at when he was around 30 years of age that he hadn’t yet totally undergone puberty. When the medical condition preventing it was removed, in several short, overwhelming weeks he went through all the hormones and changes most people go through in their teenage years.

TV director Randall Einhorn will helm the movie. He commented, “The Late Bloomer is the type of wonderful heartfelt comedy that I like to engage in. Puberty can be difficult at best and has the potential to be extremely comedic in normal circumstances. This true story is anything but a normal circumstance. That truth is a new twist on something we all know well and Elijah is just perfect to play the lead role. It is clear to me that Dignity gets my vision for The Late Bloomer and I am delighted to be working with Maggie and her team.”

Wood will next be seen returning to the role of Bilbo Baggins in book-end sequences in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and we can also expect to see him in Maniac soon, a remake of the 1980 serial-killer classic. He is currently filming the psychological thriller Grand Piano opposite John Cusack. (Source: The Playlist)

Speed at a piano? Sounds a bit odd, but that’s basically the sell for Grand Piano. The first pictures from the movie has now debuted over at Twitch, and you can see it above. John Cusack In Talks To Join Elijah Wood In Grand Piano

May 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of weeks ago, we reported that Elijah Wood was set to star in Grand Piano, and now he may have some company, as Variety reports that John Cusack is in talks to co-star in the film, which Eugenio Mira (Agnosia) is set to direct.

The plot centres on a concert pianist (Wood) who returns from a severe bout of stagefright after a five-year break from performing. However, when he sits down at the piano, he sees a menacing note on his sheet music. He must give the performance of a lifetime or else a mysterious madman will kill him and his wife! The project is described as Speed at a piano. There’s no news on exactly who Cusack might play, although presumably he’ll be the bad guy.

The movie is currently looking for buyers at Cannes, ahead of a July shoot in Spain.
