Crush Of The Day: The Stars Turn Out For The Avengers: Age Of Ultron World Premiere

April 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

avengers-premiere-slideThe stars of Marvel were out in force for the LA World Premiere of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and as you’d expect the likes of Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Jeremy Renner had their best threads on as they strutted down Hollywood Boulevard, and we’ve got the pics to prove it.

It was a bit of an early World Premiere as the film isn’t out in the US until May 1st, but the stars are off on a world tour to promote the film before its international release on April 23rd, and so the US premiere has already taken place.

As well as the stars mentioned above, Avengers actors such as Mark Ruffalo, James Spader, Scarlett Johansson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Cobie Smulders, Samuel L. Jackson, Paul Bettany and Anthony Mackie were also on hand, as were stars from the wider Marvel world, such as Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D’s Clark Gregg and Brett Dalton, and Ant-Man’s Paul Rudd.

Take a look at the action from the red carpet below. [Read more…]

avengers-age-of-ultron-Quicksilver-triple-bannerIt’s a few days since we had our last batch of Avengers: Age Of Ultron character banners, but there are so many characters that we’ve still got a few to go, and this time it’s a bunch of newbies – Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and James Spader as Quicksilver, Scarlet With and the nefarious Ultron himself.

Take a look at them above and below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel Studios presents “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision. Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963. Get set for an action-packed thrill ride when The Avengers return in Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” on April 23rd, 2015.’ [Read more…]

Take A 1st Official Look At Ultron & Aaron Johnson’s Quicksilver From Avengers: Age Of Ultron

July 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

EW-Avengers-Age-Of-Ultron-coverIt may not be out until May 2015, but EW is getting in early with a cover for Avengers: Age Of Ultron, which gives us our first popular look at the titular villain himself – Ultron.

Along with that are a set of cool (if rather generic images), which include a good look at a hunky blond Aaron Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen and Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.

The accompanying story also confirms a couple of things, including that there will multiple Ultrons, and that they are based on Tony Stark’s technology, which became corrupted and turned evil.

The magazine says, ‘For better or worse (trust us, it’s worse), his Tony Stark has devised a plan that won’t require him to put on the Iron Man suit anymore, and should allow Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the Hulk to get some much needed R&R as well. His solution is Ultron, self-aware, self-teaching, artificial intelligence designed to help assess threats, and direct Stark’s Iron Legion of drones to battle evildoers instead.

‘The only problem? Ultron (played by James Spader through performance-capture technology) lacks the human touch, and his superior intellect quickly determines that life on Earth would go a lot smoother if he just got rid of Public Enemy No. 1: Human beings. “Ultron sees the big picture and he goes, ‘Okay, we need radical change, which will be violent and appalling, in order to make everything better’; he’s not just going ‘Muhaha, soon I’ll rule!’” [director, Joss] Whedon says, rubbing his hands together.’

Take a look at the pics above and below. [Read more…]

The Homesman Trailer – First look at Hilary Swank & Meryl Streep in Tommy Lee Jones’ film

April 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tommy Lee Jones’ has shown himself to be a decent director with the TV movies The Good Old Boys and The Sunset Limited, as well as the movie The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.

He’s stepping things up a gear with The Homesman by gathering an incredibly distinguished cast, including Hilary Swank, Hailee Steinfeld, Meryl Streep, Tim Blake Nelson, James Spader, William Fichtner, and Jesse Plemons.

The period drama is about on a claim-jumper (Tommy Lee Jones) and a pioneer woman (Swank) in the 19th Century, who both escort three insane women on a bizarre journey from Nebraska to Iowa, where they must brave the harsh elements and lawless wastes along the way.

Now a trailer has arrived, although it’s not clear when it will be released. [Read more…]

James Spader Getting Villainous For The Avengers: Age of Ultron

August 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-spaderJust yesterday rumours were circulation that Paul Bettany would play Ultron in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, mainly based on the idea that as Joss Whedon has said Ultron is the result of Tony Stark’s technology gone wrong, the character would essentially be an evil version of Stark’s computer, Jarvis.

However that rumour has now been blown out of the water by the news that James Spader will face off against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes as the villain in Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Spader earned three Emmy Awards for his role as Alan Shore on Boston Legal and The Practice, and will return to television this fall in NBC’s highly anticipated series The Blacklist. Most recently Spader was seen in the critically-acclaimed film Lincoln.

But while Spader will play Ultron, that’s no guarantee that he won’t be a corrupted Jarvis.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron will bring the Marvel Universe’s biggest heroes together again to face one of their biggest villains, with Marvel’s The Avengers director Joss Whedon returning to write and direct the sequel. Marvel’s The Avengers was released in 2012 and went on to earn $1.5 billion worldwide, making it the third-largest grossing movie of all time.

The film comes to theaters on May 1, 2015. (Source: Marvel.com)

James Spader Joins Tommy Lee Jones’ The Homesman

March 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-spaderTommy Lee Jones must have liked working with James Spader in Lincoln (even if they never actually shared a scene together), as he’s now cast him in his directorial outing, The Homesman, which also has Meryl Streep and Hilary Swank attached to star.

The period drama is about on a claim-jumper (Tommy Lee Jones) and a pioneer woman (Swank) in the 19th Century, who both escort three insane women on a bizarre journey from Nebraska to Iowa, where they must brave the harsh elements along the way. It’s not 100% clear who Spader will play, although THR describes the part as ‘a swindler’.

The film will be Jones’ first cinematic directorial effort since 2005’s The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, although in 2011 he helmed an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s The Sunset Limited for HBO. Production on The Homesman is due to start fairly soon in New Mexico.

David Oyelowo Joins Lincoln

November 18, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Steven Spielberg’s biopic of Lincoln already has an incredibly impressive cast, and now it’s added another talented name to the ranks, British actor David Oyelowo. He joins Daniel Day Lewis, Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader, Lee Pace, David Strathairn, Jackie Early Haley and loads more illustrious names.

However all those people previously cast were noticeably white, and seeing as the film will focus on the last few years of Abraham Lincoln’s life, when he was engaged in an enormous civil war largely over the issue of ending slavery, you’d think they might find some space for some black faces.

Now Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and The Help star Oyelowo has come onboard, according to Deadline. However it doesn’t sound like he’s going to have a particularly big role, as he’ll be playing cavalryman (we can already see the scene of Lincoln being inspired to carry on the fight by Oyelowo’s black cavalryman, going off to war to help his enslaved brothers).

Oyelowo is already currently filming the Tom Cruise flick One Shot, so he’s pretty busy at the moment, but has managed to slot in Spielberg’s film, shooting both roles concurrently. Lincoln will be in cinemas at the end of 2012.
