Noah Super Bowl Spot – The flood is coming for Russell Crowe

January 31, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s been reported that there will be fewer Super Bowl TV spots for movies this year, but one of the films that’s getting one is Noah, and they’ve certainly ensured it look pretty epic. It also gives us a peek at the films tweaked animals and the angels that will play a role in the movie.

The film follows Noah (Russell Crowe), who lives on a vast plain of volcanic ash in the lee of a volcanic glacier (the movie was largely shot in Iceland) and has to trek up a mountain every day to get to work. He is told by God to build an enormous vessel to house both his family and the animals of the world to preserve them from a flood that promises to wipe out a sin-filled world.

It’s currently due for release on March 28th, 2014. [Read more…]

Noah Trailer – Russell Crowe, Douglas Booth & Logan Lerman are gonna need a bigger boat

November 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Yesterday we had the first poster for Noah, and now it’s time for the trailer, which starts off looking a bit weird, before it gets a whole lot more epic with giant boats, loads of CGI animals and a massive, is slightly backwards flood (where the water comes up from the ground rather than falling from the sky).

Here’s the brief official synopsis: ‘Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe stars as Noah, a man chosen by God for a great task before an apocalyptic flood destroys the world.’

Emma Watson, Jennifer Connolly, Ray Winstone and Anthony Hopkins co-star. And who knew Noah had such hot sons, with Logan Lerman and Douglas Booth as Shem and Ham? Darren Aronofsky’s film is due out March 28th 2014. [Read more…]

Winter’s Tale – Colin Farrell & Russell Crowe blend fantasy & reality

November 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Akiva Goldsman has an Oscar for writing A Beautiful Mind and also penned the script for the likes of The Da Vinci Code, I Am Legend and I Robot. Now he’s turned director with Winter’s Tale, which stars Colin Farrell, Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly and Downton Abbey‘s Jessica Brown Findlay.

Now the first trailer has arrived.

Here’s the rather cryptic synopsis: ‘Set in a mythic New York City and spanning more than a century, “Winter’s Tale” is a story of miracles, crossed destinies, and the age-old battle between good and evil. The film stars Colin Farrell (“Total Recall”), Jessica Brown Findlay (TV’s “Downton Abbey”), and Oscar® winners Jennifer Connelly (“A Beautiful Mind”), William Hurt (“Kiss of the Spider Woman”), Eva Marie Saint (“On the Waterfront”) and Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”). “Winter’s Tale” also introduces young newcomers Ripley Sobo and Mckayla Twiggs (both from Broadway’s “Once”). The film marks the directorial debut of Academy Award-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (“A Beautiful Mind”), who also wrote the screenplay, based on the acclaimed novel by Mark Helprin.’

It’ll be in cinemas next year. [Read more…]

Jennifer Connelly & Anthony Mackie Find Shelter In Paul Bettany’s Directorial Debut

August 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jennifer-ConnellyPaul Bettany is turning director with the indie flick Shelter and now he’s started putting the cast together. He’s started close to home as Variety reports that he’s cast his wife, Jennifer Connelly, in the movie, and also former co-star Anthony Mackie.

Unfortunately it’s not known what they’ll be doing in the film, as the plot of the movie is being kept under wraps. Bettany also wrote the script.

Daniel Wagner of BiFrost Pictures is financing and producing, with the current plan being to shoot the movie later this year. The film will be looking for distribution at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.

New Pics From Darren Aronofsky’s Noah Suggest A Different Type Of Biblical Epic

August 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It would have been a surprise if Darren Aronofsky made a biblical epic and it turned out to be generic Hollywood action. And if these new pics are any indication, this will be a rather different type of movie, taking the story of Noah and giving it a more naturalistic feel than most Biblical movies (if we ignore that the film thinks everyone living in the Middle East thousands of years ago was white).

The film follows Noah (Russell Crowe), who lives on a vast plain of volcanic ash in the lee of a volcanic glacier (the movie’s being shot in Iceland) and has to trek up a mountain every day to get to work. He is told by God to build an enormous vessel to house both his family and the animals of the world to preserve them from a flood that promises to wipe out a sin-filled world. It’s currently due for release on March 28th, 2014.

While the film hasn’t had much mainstream marketing yet, Paramount is already courting faith organisations in the US, hoping they will turn out in droves for the movie. It’s currently due for release on March 28th, 2014.

Jennifer Connelly, Cillian Murphy & Melanie Laurent On For Cry-Fly

November 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jennifer Connelly, Cillian Murphy and Mélanie Laurent have all signed up for Claudia Llosa’s planned drama Cry/Fly. The project will mark the female director’s English-language debut. She previously made the Oscar nominated Peruvian film, The Milk Of Sorrow.

Cry/Fly follows two intertwining stories in Minnesota and northern Canada, which take place at different times. The first follows a mother (Jennifer Connelly) who is tragically seperated from her terminally ill daughter. The second happens 20 years later and follows her son. He is persuaded to search for his missing mother by a journalist. Doesn’t sound like a laugh-fest, but it could well worth watching.

Claudia Llosa will direct from her own script, with production expected to begin in February. (Source: Variety)

Jennifer Connelly In Talks For Akiva Goldsman’s Winter’s Tale

October 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jennifer Connelly’s career got a massive shot in the arm (and an Oscar) with A Beautiful Mind, which was written by Akiva Goldsman. Now Deadline reports Connelly may reteam with Goldsman for his directorial debut, Winter’s Tale.

The movie has been in development for a couple of years, but it’s now moving towards production, with Colin Farrell and Jessica Brown Findlay set to star. Based on the novel by Mark Helprin, the story is set in both the present day and the late 19th century, and centres on a thief (Farrell) who falls in love with the Irish heiress (Jessica Brown Findlay) he just robbed, right before she dies. He later learns that he possesses the gift of reincarnation, and becomes determined to save her life. Assuming she signs on, Connelly would play the role of the main woman’s mother. The rest of the cast includes William Hurt, Will Smith, Matt Bomer, Lucy Griffiths and Eva Marie Saint.

Connelly is currently working on Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, but may move onto Winter’s Tale after that.

Hotties Douglas Booth & Logan Lerman Join Noah

June 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It turns out the biblical Noah’s sons were pretty good looking, or at least they will be in Darren Aronofsky’s biblical epic, simply titled Noah. Deadline reports that hot young actors Douglas Booth (LOL) and Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson) have signed on to star in the film.

They are set to play the kids of Russell Crowe’s title character, with Douglas Booth portraying the younger Shem, and Logan Lerman starring as his older brother, Ham. Still to be cast are Noah’s nemesis (a role Liam Neeson was rumoured for, but he now seems to be out of the running), a love interest for Ham and Noah’s third son.

Back in April Jennifer Connelly was said to be in talks to play Noah’s wife. She’s still now signed up but is still a top contender for the role, but there are other candidates in the mix.

Darren Aronofsky is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ari Handel. It’s believed it will shoot later this summer.

Virginia Trailer – Dustin Lance Black’s directorial debut

April 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Virginia (or What’s With Virginia? as it was initially titled) debuted with mixed-to-bad reviews at the Toronto Film Festival a few months ago, but Dustin Lance Black’s directorial debut still seems like it’ll be worth a look. It’s out on the US in May and should reach the UK later this year.

Black is, of course, best known as the out and proud screenwriter of Milk and J. Edgar, but here thing are less historical and more satirical. In the film, a sheriff (Ed Harris) sees his state senate bid slide onto the ice when his daughter begins to date the son of a charming but psychologically disturbed woman (Jennifer Connelly) with whom the sheriff has engaged in a two-decades-long affair.

Some have commented that the trailer seems deceptive, as the film they saw plays out more tragic than the comic tone of the promo, However it has been completely re-edited since its TIFF debut, due to some of the severe criticism it came in for. Hopefully Dustin will have sorted things out, as the trailer does make the movie look decent enough.
