Hunger Games: Mockingjay Officially Split In Two

July 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After a lot of speculation, Lionsgate has officially confirmed that the final installment of The Hunger Games franchise will be split into two movies. The studio announced that The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 will be released on November 21st, 2014, with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 ending the series November 20th, 2015.

Lionsgate has been thinking about this for a while, but needed to ensure it could get the key actors to agree to an extra movie before officially announcing the move. Splitting the last story in a major novel-to-film franchise has almost become common practice as of late, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows into two parts, and Summit doing the same with Stephenie Meyer’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire goes into production next month, which is set for release on November 22nd, 2013. Francis Lawrence is directing the sequel, although it’s too early to tell if he will be back for this two-part finale. (Source: Variety)

Epic Trailer – Into the lush forest in the new CG flick

June 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The director of Ice Age, Chris Wedge, is heading in a much warmer direction with the luscious looking CG-animated movie Epic. The first trailer for the movie has now hit, which shows off its intricate forest setting and great looking visuals. Epic tells the story of an ongoing battle deep in the woods between the forces of good and the forces of evil. When a teen age girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she must band together with a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters in order to save their world…and ours. The voice cast includes Beyonce Knowles, Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyfried, Jason Sudeikis and Johnny Knoxville. It’s due out May, 2013.

Beyonce, Josh Hutcherson & Colin Farrell Get Epic

June 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

20th Century Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios have had a good run with the likes of the Ice Age films, Horton Hears A Who and Rio, and now they’re hoping to continue that with Epic.

They seem to be hoping that a big name cast will help the animated flick, as Colin Farrell, Beyoncé Knowles, Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyfried, Johnny Knoxville, Aziz Ansari, Pitbull, Jason Sudeikis, Judah Friedlander and Steven Tyler all all onboard the movie.

Epic is about an ongoing battle that takes place deep in the forest between the forces of good and the forces of evil. When a teenage girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she must band together with a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters in order to save their world…and ours.

It’s unlikely to be as easy a sell as most of Blue Sky’s earlier film, which may be why they’re so keen on a well-known cast. Ice Age and Robots helmer Chris Wedge will direct, with a 2014 release scheduled.

April 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The gays got a bit glitzy this weekend in Los Angeles, with GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) handing out some of their media awards. Beginners continued its run of awards success, picking up ‘Outstanding Film – Wide Release’.

Also from the world of film was Josh Hutcherson, who became the youngest person ever to receive the Vanguard Award, given to someone in the public eye who’s worked hard towards LGBT rights. You can see his speech at the event below, along with Cher introducing her son, Chaz, who received the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, given to an openly LGBT media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality.

Other guests at the event included Ellen DeGeneres, Betty White, Jesse Tyler Ferguson,  Benicio Del Toro, Joshua Jackson, Perez Hilton, Guillermo Diaz and Milla Jovovich.

Josh Hutcherson Becomes GLAAD’s Youngest Vanguard Honoree

April 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

As GLAAD’s Vanguard Award is presented each year to media professionals who, through their work, have increased the visibility and understanding of the LGBT community, it normally goes to someone whose been supporting gay rights for years. However this year’s gong has gone to the youngest honoree ever, 19-year-old Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson.

While some will argues that the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation is just jumping on the Hunger Games bandwagon, there’s little doubt that Hutcherson has done work to help gay youth that would put most actors to shame.

Along with close friend, actor Avan Jogia, he’s a cofounder of the Straight But Not Narrow  campaign, which supports gay youth and their straight allies, and he recently starred in a PSA promoting the importance of gay-straight alliances in US schools. He’s previously told SamaritanMag.com, “We just launched [SBNN], and it’s a very exciting time for us and it hits close to home for me. I have a lot of gay friends in Los Angeles. My roommate’s gay and I lost two uncles when I was young to AIDS, so it’s an important cause in my family.” Of course he also starred as one of the children of lesbian mothers in The Kids Are All Alright.

“As the youngest person to ever receive the Vanguard Award, Josh Hutcherson represents a new generation of equality advocates who know that no one should be denied vital legal protections or face discrimination because of who they are,” GLAAD’s Mike Thompson said in a statement. “Through his work in trailblazing films like The Kids Are All Right, as well as his leadership in projects like the Straight But Not Narrow campaign, Josh is helping countless Americans understand the importance of equality.”

The ceremony for the 23rd annual GLAAD Media Awards will be held in Los Angeles April 21.

Detention Trailer – Josh Hutcherson goes horror

March 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If an actor hits it big, you can pretty much guarantee everything they has ever starred in will suddenly emerge. Detention premiered over a year ago at SXSW, but it’s only now that Josh Hutcherson has broken out with Journey 2 and The Hunger Games that it’s finally getting a release in the US, and a trailer has now arrived. Detention tells the story of the senior class at Grizzly Lake high school. The road to graduation is never an easy one, but it’s further complicated for these students by the arrival of a slasher movie killer who has seemingly come to life. The only ones who can stop the killer are a handful of students, but they’ll have to cut out of detention if they’re to stand a chance at saving the world. It’s due out Friday, April 13th in the US, but no UK date it currently set.

Is Hunger Games Star Josh Hutcherson A Hottie? (Gallery)

March 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s always difficult to know with child actors – what point are you allowed to stop thinking of them as a kids and when are you actually allowed to start fancying them? (I still feel a bit dirty when I go ‘phwoar’ at Daniel Radliffe) However I think 21-year-old Josh Hutcherson has certainly crossed over from being the sweet young star of Bridge To Terabithia and Zathura to the rather studly man we’ve seen in Journey 2 and The Hunger Games.

He’s also incredibly gay-friendly, taking time out from his schedule to promote gay rights and most particularly gay-straight alliances in school (you can read more about that here).

With The Hunger Games – in which Hutcherson plays Tribute Peeta – reaching cinemas today, we thought we’d offer a bit of an appreciation of Josh in the film with the image gallery below. Is he a hottie? We think so!

The Hunger Games (Cinema)

March 20, 2012 By Stephen Sclater Leave a Comment

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks
Director: Gary Ross
Running Time: 143 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: March 23rd, 2012

As many know by now, Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games is a young adult bestseller that’s become a phenomenon around the world. It’s now been transferred to the screen and is one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year. So far the novel trilogy has amassed over 26 million in book sales (mostly due to popular word of mouth) and this will no doubt grow after the pretty much inevitable success of the movie.

The Hunger Games is set in North America in a dystopian future. The Hunger Games have been introduced by the government as a tactic invented to help control and punish each District for a previous uprising. Each of the 12 Districts have to select a male and female teenager, who must then all fight each other to the death in a televised event, for the honour and hope of their Districts. [Read more…]

Dwayne Johnson In Talks For Journey 3

March 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While he’s done it fairly quietly, Dwayne Johnson has become one fo the few actors around consistently churning out hit movies. Many have suggested it was his presence that ensured the recent Journey 2 turned into a far bigger box office draw than anyone had expected.

Warner/New Line is already at work on a third Journey movie, and now TheWrap suggests Johnson is in talks to return as Hank in Journey 3. A couple of days ago, director Brad Peyton and screenwriters Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn signed on for the third movie. No details on the story have been revealed yet, but Peyton has suggested it will be based on another of Jules Verne’s classic tales.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island was a follow-up to 2008’s Journey to the Center of the Earth, although Josh Hutcherson was the only actor to return for the second installment, portraying Sean. Dwayne Johnson played Sean’s stepfather Hank in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and it seems Hank will be imparting more wisdom (and pec-pops) to Sean in Journey 3, even though Josh Hutcherson hasn’t officially signed on yet.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island has grossed over $280 million worldwide since opening in early February. No production schedule was given for Journey 3, although Warner Bros. is eyeing a 2014 release.
