Jude Law Up For Jane Got A Gun, With Joel Edgerton Replacing Michael Fassbender

March 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jude-lawIt’s a game of musical chairs over at Jane Got A Gun, as while Natalie Portman stays attached to the Lynne Ramsey film, the main male roles are busy moving around. For a long time Michael Fassbender was set to co-star, but with shooting now scheduled to start next month, he’s had to step aside as he committed to X-Men: Days Of Future Past.

His role has gone to Joel Edgerton, who had recently signed on for a different role in the movie, with THR reporting that Jude Law is now stepping into the part Edgerton jumped from.

Portman is set to play Jane Hammond, a woman in the Old West who enlists the help of a former lover (Egderton) when a band of outlaws come searching for her husband. Jude Law will play John Bishop, the villainous leader of this evil group.

Ramsay is set to direct from Brian Duffield’s Black Listed screenplay.

New Side Effects Trailer – Channing Tatum & Jude Law get paranoid about prescription medication

January 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Everyone’s getting pretty paranoid in the new trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s Side Effects, which makes you wonder whether any viewers of the movie are going to look twice at what prescription medication they are taking.

The film stars Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum, Jude Law and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and is about a woman (Mara) who turns to prescription medication to deal with her anxiety over her husband’s (Tatum) release from prison. She begins to take a new brand of anti-depressant, prescribed by a doctor (Jude Law), who seems to have more than a professional interest in her. Before long, everything spirals badly out of control, when it appears a murder has been committed.

The film is set for release in the UK on March 15th, 2013. It certainly looks like it’ll be a dramatic one.

Jude Law Heads For The Queen of the Desert

November 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Queen Of The Desert has slowly been making its may to the screen, with various people flirting with it over the years. Now it’s looking for buyers at the American Film Market, and hopes that the addition of Jude Law to the cast will help attract buyers. He joins the already attached Naomi Watts and Robert Pattinson in this period drama, which will be written and directed by Werner Herzog.

The true story film stars Naomi Watts as Gertrude Bell, an explorer, writer, archeologist and attaché for the British Empire, who is credited with helping to catalyse the formation of the Middle East at the dawn of the 20th Century. She’s been described as the female Lawrence of Arabia, although the film will also include the real T.E. Lawrence, played by Pattinson. There’s no news on who Law will be.

Principal photography is scheduled to begin in Morocco in March 2013. (Source: THR)

Dom Hemingway will follow the titular character (Law), a larger than life safecracker with a loose fuse who is also funny, profane and dangerous. Freshly released from prison, he’s looking to collect on what he thinks he’s owed thanks to him keeping quiet about what he knew on his last job. The movie also stars Richard E. Grant, Demian Bechir and Emilia Clarke, and should be released sometime next year.

Demian Bichir And Emilia Clarke Join Don Hemingway

October 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Game Of Thrones star Emilia Clarke is having a busy week, as she’s in the running for the female lead in Captain America 2 and has also just signed on to star in Don Hemingway. Deadline reports that Clarke & Savages star Demian Bechir have signed up to appear alongside Jude Law and Richard E. Grant in the movie.

Dom Hemingway will follow the titular character (Law), a larger than life safecracker with a loose fuse who is also funny, profane and dangerous. Freshly released from prison, he’s looking to collect on what he thinks he’s owed thanks to him keeping quiet about what he knew on his last job. Bichir will play a crime boss who’s based in the south of France, who Law’s character goes to visit. It isn’t clear who Clarke will play, although every movie needs a love interest (well, they don’t, but people insist on having one anyway), so we wouldn’t be surprised if that’s her role.

Richard Shepard (The Hunting Party, The Matador) will direct, who’s previously worked with Emilia on Game Of Thrones.

360 (Cinema)

August 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Jude Law, Rachel Weisz, Anthony Hopkins, Ben Foster
Director: Fernando Meirelles
Running Time: 110 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: August 10th 2012

Very loosely based on Arthur Schnitzler’s 1900 play La Ronde, Fernando Meirelles’ movie tells a series of interconnected tales, stretching across the globe, all of which are loosely ties by looking at sexual politics and the ties of human connections, no matter how brief.

Meirelles showed his skill with complex ensemble tales with City Of God, but 360 is a slower affair, more meditative than the driving energy of his Brazilian favela movie. Amongst the many stories are Jude Law and Rachel Weisz’s married couple, who both find themselves in adulterous situations. Anthony Hopkins is an older man looking for his lost daughter, who makes a random connection with a young Brazilian woman. Ben Foster is fresh out of prison after a six-year stretch for paedophilia, trying to withstand the temptations and distractions of the outside world. There’s also a prostitute sent to an appointment with a brutish Russian businessman, while her sister makes friends with a man outside, whose marriage is on the rocks. [Read more…]

Watch A Six-Minute Anna Karenina Clip

July 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina sounds quite unusual, with the director starting a new six-minute clip by saying the entire thing was shot inside a theatre, with the sets built inside, to allow actors to move from one place to another fluidly. It’s a unique way of doing things, which is probably why they’re trying to drum up interest with this clip.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Keira Knightley stars as Anna Karenina in Joe Wright’s version of Tolstoy’s epic love story. Adapted by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love), Jude Law plays Anna’s husband Aleksei Karenin and Aaron Johnson (Nowhere Boy) stars as Count Vronsky. Rounding out the cast are Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Matthew Macfadyen (Pride & Prejudice), Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), Alicia Vikander (The Seventh Son), two-time Academy Award nominee Emily Watson, Olivia Williams (Hanna), and Ruth Wilson (Luther).

‘The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.

‘Anna Karenina marks Wright’s fourth film with Working Title, following the award-winning box office successes Pride & Prejudice and Atonement and The Soloist. The film is produced by Working Title co-chairmen Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and reunites them with Paul Webster, all three of whom produced Wright’s first two films Pride & Prejudice and Atonement.’

First Trailer & Poster For Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina

June 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Director Joe Wright has reteamed with his Pride & Prejudice and Atonement star Keira Knightley for a new take on Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, and has brought Aaron Johnson, Jude Law and Kelly MacDonald along for the ride. Now the first trailer and poster has arrived, ahead of the film’s release on September 3rd. The poster makes everything look a bit Baz Luhrman, while the trailer focuses on the film’s rather extravagant opulence.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Keira Knightley stars as Anna Karenina in Joe Wright’s version of Tolstoy’s epic love story. 360 Trailer – First promo for Fernando Meirelles’ ensemble tale

June 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s taken a while to get 360 from its festival debuts last September and October to its big screen release, but it’s due to hit UK cinemas on August 10th, and the first trailer is now here. Fernando Meirelles’ drama is inspired by Arthur Schnitzler’s classic La Ronde, and combines a modern and dynamic roundelay of stories into one, linking characters from different cities and countries in a vivid tale of love in the 21st century. Starting in Vienna, the film beautifully weaves through Paris, London, Bratislava, Rio, Denver and Phoenix, with cast including Anthony Hopkins, Rachel Weisz, Jude Law and Ben Foster.
