Lily Collins Heads For Pride, Prejudice and Zombies, With Burr Steers Directing

May 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lily-collinsRather like the undead it features, Pride, Prejudice and Zombies is a project that just won’t die. It’s been in development for years, with directors such as David O. Russell, Mike White and Craig Gillespie attached to helm at various points, while Natalie Portman, Emma Stone and Scarlett Johansson have flirted with starring.

However, while there have been moments when it’s seemed the idea of an adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s book was dead, it’s always returned. Now it’s being resurrected once again, with Variety reporting that Lily Collins is set to star, with Burr Steers (17 Again, Charlie St. Cloud) attached to direct.

Grahame-Smith’s book is a retelling of Pride & Prejudice, which keeps much of Jane Austen’s original text, but adds in a zombie apocalypse to give the classic love story an extra bit of zing. Collins will play the Elizabeth Bennet character.

David O. Russell wrote the initial draft of the script, but it is unknown if they’ll work from that or start over.

New The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Trailer – Can this fantasy capture the young adult market?

April 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Twilight and The Hunger Games have been licenses to print cash, but as the likes of Beautiful Creatures and The Host have shown, the young adult fantasy market is very fickle – there’s no middle ground, it either breaks the bank or flops badly. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones will certainly be hoping for the former on it August release. Now we have a new trailer to see if it looks like it’ll be worth a look.

Here’s the synopsis for Cassandra Clare’s novel: ‘In the series’ first book, the #1 New York Times bestseller “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones,” set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray, discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.’

Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Robert Sheehan, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Kevin Zegers and more star, with Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid) directing. You can also see a couple of new character posters below.

Sam Claflin & Lily Collins Will Love Rosie

February 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sam Claflin
Last year Sam Claflin appeared in Snow White And The Huntman, while Lily Collins was in rival fairy tale movie Mirror Mirror. However working on competing Snow White tales hasn’t made them enemies as Deadline reports that they’re teaming up for the romantic comedy, Love Rosie.

The film is based on a novel by Cecila Aherne (P.S. I Love You), which has been known as Where Rainbows End, Rosie Dunne, or Love, Rosie. Collins and Claflin will be Rosie and Alex, two Irish best friends who plan to move to the US together for college. However, Rosie gets pregnant after a wild fling with a popular schoolmate, which leads to the duo taking very different paths. They never lose touch thanks to lively e-mails, notes and letters.

Juliette Towhidi (Calendar Girls) is on screenplay duty, with German director Christian Ditter set to make his English-language debut with the movie. Shooting will start in May.

Mirror Mirror (DVD)

July 27, 2012 By Stephen Sclater Leave a Comment

Starring: Lily Collins, Armie Hammer, Julia Roberts, Nathan Lane
Director: Tarsem
Running Time: 101 mins
Certificate: PG
Release Date: July 30th 2012

Hollywood is now investing a lot of time and money into fairytales of old, as with today’s CGI anything goes. You wait ages for a Snow White films and two turn up, the same can also be said of waiting for a Tarsem Singh film, as we hadn’t had anything since 2006’s The Fall, and now we’ve had Immortals and Mirror Mirror within a few months of one another. One does not normally associate a Tarsem Singh film with comedy, but this is what has he has delivered with Mirror Mirror, which is unusual considering his inability to connect with the audience with his previous films.

Tarsem Singh is a cinematic visionary who tends to focus more on imagery, costumes and style than with plots, and again has delivered something very similar with Mirror Mirror. Personally I enjoy watching Singh’s films and marvel at the beauty and striking canvas he envisages like a true artist (it is definitely style over substance), along with the creator of his incredible costumes, Eiko Ishioka, who unfortunately passed away this year. July 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Transamerica and It’s A Boy Girl Thing star Kevin Zegers has joined the cast of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones for director Harald Zwart, based on Cassandra Clare’s bestselling young adult novel. And even better, the hot young star is set to play gay in the film. The news hasn’t been officially announced yet, but Just Jared says Zegers has the role.

The movie is about Clary Fray (Lily Collins), a young woman living in New York City who discovers she comes from a long line of demon hunters. Zegers is set to play Alec Lightwood, the gay brother of Jemima West’s Isabelle. He despises Clary since he is in love with Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower), but Jace has feelings for Clary. Kevin Durand, Robert Maillet, Lena Headey, Jared Harris and Robert Sheehan also star.

Filming is set to begin August 20th in Toronto.

Lena Headey & Jared Harris Join Mortal Instruments

July 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The fantasy adaptation The Mortal Instruments, now titled The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones to make it more franchise friendly, has added Lena Headey, Jared Harris, and newcomer Godfrey Gao to its growing cast, according to Deadline.

The adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s novel series is about Clary Fray (Lily Collins), a young woman living in New York City who learns she is a descendant of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.

Lena Headey is playing Jocelyn Fray, Jared Harris portrays Hodge Starkweather, and Godfrey Gao has signed on to play Magnus Bane. Others already cast include Jamie Campbell Bower, Jemima West, Robert Sheehan, Robert Maillet, and Kevin Durand.

The Mortal Instruments is a series of six young adult fantasy books, so there’s plenty of room for a franchise if the first movie works out. Principal photography will begin August 20, 2012 in Toronto, with Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid) directing.

Harald Zwart Directing Mortal Instrumentals

March 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Twilight raking in millions and The Hunger Games looking like it’s going to break the bank, everyone in Hollywood is looking for the next big young adult franchise, and one that’s being slowly put together is The Mortal Instruments, based on Cassandra Clare’s best-selling book series.

A few months ago it was reported that Lily Collins was in talks to play the lead role. That’s now been confirmed by Constantin Film and Unique Features, who have also signed Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid, Agent Cody Banks) to direct the movie.

The series’ first book, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, is set in contemporary New York City and follows a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray (Collins), who discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.

Principal photography is expected to begin August 15 in Toronto, but whether this will be the new Twilight is yet to be seen.

Lily Collins May Take On Michael Sucsy’s Rosaline

February 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If there’s one story that Hollywood has overplayed, it’s Romeo & Juliet, but Tinsel Town isn’t going to give up, as not only is there a new version based on Shakespeare’s text that’s just finished shooting, but now Variety reports that Lily Collins is in talks to headline the romantic comedy Rosaline, which is a revisionist take on the story, based on the upcoming novel When You Were Mine by Rebecca Serle.

Rosaline doesn’t actually appear in Romeo & Juliet, but she is mentioned as the girl Romeo dated before he took up with Ms. Capulet. This new take tells the story through Rosaline’s eyes, as she watches the two doomed lovers enter into a suicide pact. Deborah Ann Woll and Dave Franco are also in talks for the movie, but it isn’t known exactly who they will play.

Gay director Michael Sucsy (Grey Gardens, The Vow) is set to direct.

Abduction (DVD)

February 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Taylor Lautner, Lily Collins, Sigourney Weaver, Maria Bello, Jason Isaacs
Director: John Singleton
Running Time: 101 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: February 13th, 2012

Will Taylor Lautner be a big star outside the Twilight franchise? Abduction was supposed to be the movie that showed us if he could succeed without turning into a wolf, but to be honest it’s still impossible to tell. That’s not because Taylor does anything wrong, but because Abduction is so busy getting from A to B to C that it doesn’t really give its star time to show off more than he’s quite god at fighting and stunts.

The young actor plays Nathan, who’s happily living his suburban teenage life when he and friend Karen (Lily Collins) come across what appears to be a picture of him on a missing person’s website. Suspecting his parents may have abducted him as a child, Nathan’s life really goes haywire when armed men suddenly invade the family home and kill the people he believed were his mum and dad. Armie Hammer Goes Shirtless In Mirror Mirror

January 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

As the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network and Clyde Tolson in J. Edgar, the impossibly handsome Armie Hammer has gained quite a few fans. Next up for him is playing Prince Alcott in Mirror Mirror, the new family friendly take on the classic Snow White tale.

A new featurette for the film has just popped up online, which is basically just a glorified trailer, but does give us a delectable glimpse of Armie with his shirt off. It’s pleasing to see that he’s resisted Hollywood’s obsession with trimming the chest fur. You can see the full featurette below. The film’s out at the end of March.
